I've got a pronunciation video for you today, and it's all about ten words that you might be pronouncing incorrectly.

今日は、発音をカバーしていきますよ。間違った発音をしているかもしれない、10 個の単語を見てみましょう。

So, let's get started.

早速始めましょう。

Ok so the first word is this one!

まず初めは、こちらです！

How would you say it?

どう発音しますか？

It's not "fru-it."

「fru-it」ではありません。

There are not two syllables there.

この単語、2 音節ではありません。

We actually pronounce this word 'fruit.'

この単語は、「fruit」です。

"fruit."

「fruit」

So many students make the mistake of saying "fru-it."

多くの生徒さんが、「fru-it」と間違って発音します。

Or "fruiiiit," "fruiiit."

もしくは、「fruiiiit」など。

But no, it's just "fruit."

違いますよ、これは、「fruit」です。

And "fruit" is my favorite food.

フルーツは、私の好きな食べ物です。

The next word we have is this one.

次は、こちら。

So many students actually pronounce this how they would pronounce it in their own language.

多くの生徒さんが、母語でどう言うかに基づいて、この単語を発音します。

Probably the Italians and the Spanish more than anything.

イタリア人やスペイン人に多いですね。

But we pronounce this not "cha-os."

英語での発音は、「cha-os」ではありません。

Not "cha-os."

「cha-os」ではなく、

But "chaos."

「chaos」です。

We almost add a "y" sound, "chaos."

「y」の音を付け加えるイメージですね。

It was an absolute "chaos."

本当に、大混乱でしたよ。

The same with the adjective form.. it was "chaotic."

これは、形容詞形でも同じです。「chaotic」ですね。

Ok, number three, we have...

3 つ目は…

Now I remember learning to spell this word when I was at school and thinking "wow, that's a crazy spelling' because it's so different to the pronunciation."

私は、この単語の綴り方を学校で習って、「変な綴り方」と思ったのを覚えています。発音と全く異なるからです。

Now, I've heard all different pronunciations for this word.

この単語の発音、色々と聞いたことがあります。

I've heard "kuwew," I've head "kyooyoo."

「kuwew」と言ったり、「kyooyoo」と言ったり。

But really we just say "queue," "queue."

でも実際の発音は、「queue」です。「queue」

One syllable, and everyone knows that British people love "queueing," "queue," "to queue," "there is a queue."

1 音節で、皆さんご存じのように、イギリス人は列を作って並ぶのが大好きですね。「queue」ですよ。列があります。

There's the verb and the noun as well.

動詞でも名詞でも使えます。

Now on to number four, and this one always makes me laugh when people say this cos it is really difficult to say.

4 つ目の単語です。誰かがこの単語を発音すると、笑っちゃいますね。難しいですから。

It is...this one.

こちらです。

Now I hear people say "crips."

「crips」と発音されるのを聞いたことがありますね。

I used to work in a cafe with a lot of foreign workers, and they would always say 'Where are the crips?'

私はカフェで、たくさんの外国人と一緒に働いたことがあるのですが、彼らは「「crips」はどこ？」って言ってましたね。

And I'd be like 'crips," are you talking about "crepes?'

私は、「crips」って何？クレープのこと？って思っていました。

We say '"crisps."

発音は「crisps」です。

This 'sps' sound is very difficult for some people to say, so you need to practice this in the mirror before you brush your teeth every night...crisps.

「sps」という発音がすごく難しい、と言う人もいますね。夜、歯を磨く前に、発音を練習しましょう。「crisps」です。

Ok number five is this one.

5 つ目はこちら。

If you like cooking then you should have seen this word before.

料理が好きな人は、この単語を見たことがあるでしょう。

And most people say "resips" or "reseeps."

大半の人が、「resips」または「reseeps」と発音します。

But it should be "recipe."

でも、「recipe」です。

So it's very irregular this word.

この単語は、すごくイレギュラーなんですね。

Normally when an e is on the end we don't pronounce it but in this case we do.

単語の最後に「e」が来ると、通常は発音しないのですが、この単語の場合は発音します。

Recipe, three syllables.

「recipe」で、3 音節です。

Ok, number 6, this one.

6 つ目は、こちらです。

Ok so many people pronounce this incorrectly.

すごくたくさんの人が、この単語を間違って発音しています。

They want to say every syllable, so they say "com-for-ta-ble" but really it's "comfortable."

全ての音節を発音しようとして、「com-for-ta-ble」と言うのですが、実際は「comfortable」です。

"Comfortable," so it's not "com-for-ta-ble," it's just "comf-t-ble."

「Comfortable」です。「com-for-ta-ble」ではなく、「comf-t-ble」と言います。

Ok, so we actually lose a syllable there.

つまり、音節が 1 つなくなりますね。

The same goes for number seven which is not "veg-e-ta-ble," "vegetable."

7 つ目の単語も、同様です。「veg-e-ta-ble」でなく、「vegetable」です。

Not "veg-e-ta-ble," "vegetable."

「ve-ge-ta-ble」でもなく、「vegetable」ですよ。

Not "ve-ge-ta-ble," "vegetable."

「ve-ge-ta-ble」でもなく、「vegetable」ですよ。

Similarly we have number 8.

8 つ目も同様ですね。

Ok, very important word, if you don't know this word then you're crazy cos it's a big part of my life.

とても大事な単語です、この単語を知らないならあなたはクレイジーですよ、これは私の生活の大きな部分を占めてますからね。

I hear many people say "cho-co-late" or "cho-co-late..." "choco..." "choco," but we say "chok-lit."

多くの人が「cho-co-late」とか「cho-co-late」、「choco」と発音するのを聞きますが、実際は「chok-lit」です。

"Chocolate."

「Chocolate」

So, it's just 2 syllables, and I understand it's quite hard for many people to pronounce, but, you wanna speak English well you got to practice.

2 音節だけで、これを発音するのが難しい、と思う人もかなり多くいるでしょう。でも、英語を話したいなら、練習ですね。

So "chocolate..." "chocolate."

「chocolate」、「chocolate」です。

Ok, and my last two are days of the week so number nine...this one...

さて、最後の 2 単語は、曜日です。9 つ目の単語はこちら…

Not one of my favorite days of the week, but it's very important to pronounce it correctly.

私の好きな曜日ではありませんが、きちんとした発音は大事ですからね。

I always hear "Tu-es-day."

「Tu-es-day」と発音されるのを、よく耳にします。

"Tu-es-day."

「Tu-es-day」

When in reality it's "Tuesday."

でも実際は、「Tuesday」ですね。

Choose, like I want to choose what I'm having for breakfast this morning.

「Choose」と同じような発音です。「朝ご飯に何を食べるか、選びたい」という時のような。

"Tuesday," not "tu-es-day," "Tuesday."

「Tuesday」ですよ。「tu-es-day」ではありません。

And then the last one.

そして、最後の単語です。

Another day of the week.

また、曜日です。

Not wed-nes-day.... "Wednesday."

「Wed-nes-day」ではなく…「Wednesday」です。

Not "wed-nes-day..." "Wednesday."

「Wed-nes-day」ではありません…「Wednesday」です。
