Have you ever wondered how to have more people find your website? One of the best ways to
do this is through what’s called search engine optimization or SEO for short.
SEO stands for search Engine optimization, good SEO means Google likes you. You might
even show up on the first page when people search for something related to your site.
Now there are a lot of good search engines out there. But about 83 percent of people
worldwide use Google. If you are dominating Google, you are probably
dominating everything else and don’t forget YouTube is the second most search site on
the web Search engines like Google and Bing are the
librarians of the internet. Their systems collect information about every page on the
web. So that they can help people find exactly what they are looking for, and every search
engine has a secret recipes called an algorithm, for turning all that information into useful
search results. Stuff like content freshness, age of your
site, quality of content, even how fast your site runs.
In 1996, two Stanford PhD students notice while they were researching academic papers
that sources that contained a lot of keywords, didn’t necessarily mean they are more relevant.
What matter a lot more was whether those papers were cited often by other papers? So they
applied the citation concept to web search. They suggested websites that were backlinked
a lot, that is to say were referred to often by other websites were more likely to be relevant;
that how Google was born. With the idea that the more links to the page,
the better the content must be. Search engines care about reputation, sites
with a consistence record of fresh engaging content and growing numbers of quality links
may be considered rising stars and do well in search rankings.
SEO is all about attention to detail. It’s not hard, but you need to do all the little
things right to get the result you want. Let’s take a look at a search page, we will search
sexy costume, which is a competitive industry for SEO especially during Halloween, plus
not terrible to look at either. The first thing you need to know is that people pay
for some of these results. The stuff you see at the top of the page and sometimes on the
side bar are paid results. Every time you click on this stuff, the owner pays a cost
per click. But this is the section most people care about.
It is the actual results list, which is just the list of website that is most likely to
contain what you are looking for. And you will notice, this is just the first result
page, you can click down there for more. Now here is the important part that most people
just don’t know; over 94 percent of people that use Google only click result on this
first page. If they don’t find what they are looking for, they usually don’t bother
to click on the subsequent results page. Instead they typically prefer to just adjust the search
terms and start from scratch. This is why optimizing your website for search engines
or doing SEO is so important. When people search for something that is relevant to them,
and they see your website in their search results, they are gonna click and visit your
page. And these aren’t just any visitors; these are people that are looking for exactly
what you offer, so of anyone they are the most likely to convert into customers, subscribers,
etc. If your content is already great and nobody
is finding it, there are few things you can do to make your site more Google friendly.
If it isn’t on the first page, it almost like your website doesn’t exist. SEO is
super important because it helps you move to the top of relevant search results, and
since almost everyone relies heavily on search engines to find anything online, SEO is the
most effective way to increase traffic to your site.
