That is a way that you can change your vibrato. Good. So now open your hand up. Right, that slows up your pulsation. Same thing, go to fourth finger. Now, fourth finger is hard to get a fast vibrato on sometimes. You keep your hand very, very close like that and now open it and just feel the daylight, and that's a way to slow it up. Some people play with their hand position squared like this, and other people slant their fingers down. Two different techniques. Feuermann, Starker, Greenhouse play like this. Casals played like this. You have to find out what's right for your hand. I know that both ways work. I usually suggest--I usually advise to people which way to play according to how their vibrato sounds. If you're playing squared like this, the vibrato rotates more. Right? If you play angled like this, the vibrato is more of a pump, and it's not rotating. It's not natural. When you're in a slant, it's not natural to be trying to go around and around. Maybe that might have been what confuses you. And I'll do it for you. Just relax your hand. See when I do this, see how your knuckle is moving? You have to soften your hand. Try different fingers, too. It's easier and you get a quicker pulsation for the same amount of tension this way. And I think that that might help you when you're trying to play passionate that you angle your finger a little bit more, you'll find that it goes faster. I'll tell you, when I was a kid, when I was 17 years old, maybe I sounded better than that, I don't know, but that's the way I thought I sounded. Then when I started studying with Greenhouse, Greenhouse just said, "Why don't you just turn your finger this way?" And all of a sudden, the pulsation was so much faster. Right, all right? It's easier to have a quick--you get a quicker pulsation out of-- for the same amount of tension this way. And I think that that might help you when you're trying to play passionate that you angle your finger a little bit more, you'll find that it goes faster.
