Hello! This is Jack from tofluency.com, and in this video I'm going to share
seven amazing tips to help you learn English fast, so keep watching!
To help you understand the first two tips I want to share with you the
fluency equation. Your progress to fluency equals the methods that you use
times by the time you spend using these methods. Let's focus on methods first
because how you learn english is vital and there are certain methods that you
can use to help you make faster progress these include: learning new words and
phrases in context so instead of learning single words from lists
learn them from context, from sentences. Work on your pronunciation - you can
improve your pronunciation by learning the sounds of English and working on
things like intonation, rhythm and stress - this will improve your speaking
and your listening. Get lots of repetition - you can use digital flash
cards to help you internalize grammar and learn new words and phrases. You can
also get smart repetition through narrow reading and listening. To learn more
about the methods are really going to help you. Get the free download that
comes with this video.
The more time you spend learning English and using English, the faster you will
progress. This is the second part of the equation, however. I receive so many
emails from learners telling me that they're too busy to learn english. I get
it - I'm busy; you're busy; we're all busy. I have two things to say about that...
Firstly, make english a priority. If learning English is important to you then make it
one of your priorities - make it part of your daily routine.
Secondly, do things in English while doing other things.
Listening to a podcast while going to work is one example, but also do things
in English instead of in your native language, for example, search for things
online in English, watch TV in English, and change the language of your devices
into English too. Even if you're super busy, there are ways that you can spend
more time doing things in English, and this is a really important area, so think
about your routine and find more ways to do more in English.
Making a fluency plan that is specific to you will help you become a more
effective English learner. Everyone is different and the English that you need
to learn is different to the English that someone else needs to learn. Think
about why you need English and how you're going to use it in the future. If
you have an exam that you need to pass, then learn English that is specific to
the exam. If you need English for work, then learn Business English. Additionally,
work on your weaknesses - work on things that you need to improve. Evaluate
yourself or get evaluated by a teacher and then create a plan that is specific to you.
Many studies have shown how important it is to enjoy what you're doing when it
comes to learning a language. If you're doing things that are boring then
stopp doing them. If you're not engage, you are not as open to a new language -
things aren't as memorable and it's difficult to continue doing something
that you don't enjoy over the long-term. So, have fun,
listen to things that you enjoy, watch things that are interesting to you - this
is going to be more beneficial for your learning and also you're going to be
learning English that is specific to you, something that we talked about before.
I have a quote for you: "A goal is a dream with a deadline."
Don't just say what you want to learn English, instead, create a goal - a
specific goal with a deadline. Having a goal with a deadline allows you to
create a plan for the long-term - a goal also keeps you motivated and excited
about your daily learning. When setting your fluency goal; make it challenging; make
it a little bit scary. This ensures that you push yourself and ensures that you
make faster progress.
Many learners go through what I call 'cycles of learning'. This is where you get really
excited about learning English and you say "This time I'm actually going to
continue learning and reach fluency." And you have a plan of studying three hours
a day. But, all the time, I see learners who have this type of plan but then stop
learning or they dramatically reduce the hours they spend with English. It's
important to know that consistency is key; it helps you build momentum
especially with something like learning English which is a long-term project.
Having a goal, making your learning specific to you, and having fun all help
you stay consistent, but there are two other things I want to share that will
help you too: Make your fluency plan part of your daily routine and do things that
are sustainable. Making English part of your routine will help you get into the
habit of learning and using your English - and it is these habits that will dictate
your level over the next few months and the next year, and beyond.
I also mentioned that it's important to create a plan that's sustainable; a plan
that you can actually do over the long term. So, when you think about doing more
things in English, you can always start small
add little things to your day and increase this over time, because a good plan
over the long term is better than the perfect plan for two weeks
Speaking in English can be scary. I know this because so many people - so many
English learners - tell me that they are afraid of making mistakes; they are
afraid of looking stupid. Listen, you are going to make mistakes as an English
learner - learning English - you are going to make mistakes. It's impossible to
avoid them. Also know that native speakers make mistakes too. I made
mistakes all the time.
My friends do, everyone makes mistakes. Now, if somebody laughs at you because
you make a mistake either laugh with them or leave the conversation if they are being
nasty. Learning from your mistakes is really important to this will help you
make big improvements. So, get feedback on your speaking and feedback on your
writing too. Thank you for watching this video, but do not go yet because I have
created a PDF summary of this lesson and more tips that will help you make faster
progress to English fluency. Click the link, enter your details, and I'll send
this to you immediately. And then please share this video with anyone who would
benefit from it.
Thank you for watching, and I'll see you next time!
