Leonardo DiCaprio finally won the Oscar for Best Actor at this year’s Academy Awards.

There was so much build-up.

Everyone was waiting on what he would say during his speech.

Thank you. Thank you all so very much.

Thank you to the Academy.

Thank you to all of you in this room.

I have to congratulate the other incredible nominees this year.

He thanked the director and co-star Tom Hardy for his "fierce talent on screen"

And friendship off screen as well as several influential people he’s worked with

Like Martin Scorsese, and his parents

who, by the way, he has thanked in every winning speech during this awards show season.

And after he thanked those that helped him get to this pinnacle moment.

He decided to use the national platform to talk about an issue.

He has worked tirelessly to combat for years

Global warming.

Climate change is real

It is happening right now.

It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species.

And we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.

Leo’s win marked the third of the night for The Revenant,

which also beat out the competition for best director and cinematography.

And fun fact—

It has been 22 years since Leo was first nominated for an Academy Award.

Having been nominated for best supporting actor for What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

I am so glad he finally won. It was way overdue.

I wanted him to win for Blood Diamond years ago.
