Since the early ages humankind has consulted oracles

昔から人類は　神託を求めてきました

People looked to the stars to seek their destiny;

witches or wise women used to read the future in tea leaves or tortoise shells.

Here we use your tarot deck as a tool for meditation

to help us to move to the present,

現在にたどり着けるように

from the head to the heart.

頭からハートへとたどり着けるようにです

Osho, why are we continually avoiding this moment?

Osho　私たちはなぜこの瞬間から逃げ続けるのでしょうか？

There has been

大きな

a great misunderstanding

誤解があった

between life

生と

and time.

時間との間にだ

Time is thought to

時間とは

consist of three tenses:

３つの時制でできていると考えられている

past, present, future

過去　現在　未来

which is wrong.

それは間違っている

Time consists only of past

時間は　過去と

and future.

未来だけでできている

It is life which consists of the present.

現在でできているのは生だ

So those who want to live,

だから　生きようとする者

for them there is no

彼らには

other way

ひとつの道しかない

than to live this moment.

この瞬間を生きるという道だ

Only the present is existential.

現在だけが実存的だ

The past is simply a collection of memories,

過去は記憶の集まりにすぎない

and the future is nothing but

未来はあなたの

your imaginations, your dreams.

想像であり夢でしかない

Reality

現実は

is herenow.

今ここにある

Those who want just to think about life,

ただ考えたいだけなら…　生について

about living,

生きることについて

about love,

愛について

for them past and future are perfectly beautiful,

そういう者には過去と未来は完璧に美しい

because they give them infinite scope.

それは無限の広がりを与えるからだ

They can decorate their past,

過去は飾り付けることができる

make it

そして

as beautiful as they like

好きなだけ美しくすることができる

although they never lived it,

過去を生きたこともないのに

when it was present they were not there.

過去のその瞬間に　彼らはいなかった

These are just

これらはただ

shadows,

影であり

reflections.

映し鏡なのだ

They were continuously running,

彼らは走り続けていた

and while running they have seen a few things.

そして走りながらほんの少し物事を見た

They think they have lived.

彼らは生きていたと思っている

In the past

過去においては

only death is

死だけが

the reality,

現実だ

not life.

生ではない

In the future also, only death is the reality,

未来においても　死だけが現実だ

not life.

生ではない

Those who have missed living in the past,

過去を生きそこなった者は

automatically,

自動的に

to substitute

その隙間を

for the gap,

埋めるために

start dreaming about the future.

未来について夢を見はじめる

Their future is only a projection

彼らの未来は投影でしかない

out of the past.

過去からの投影だ

Whatever they have missed in the past,

過去で逃したあらゆることを

they are hoping for in the future;

未来に期待するのだ

and between the two nonexistences,

そして２つの非実存の間に

is the small existent moment

小さな実存の瞬間がある

which is life.

それが生だ

For those who want to live, not to think about it;

生について考えるのではなく　生きることを望むなら

to love,

愛について考えることではなく

not to think about it;

愛することを望むなら

to be,

在るということについて思索するのではなく

not to philosophize about it

在ることを望むなら

there is no other alternative.

他に道はない

Drink

飲みなさい

the present moment's juices,

今この瞬間のジュースを

squeeze it

搾り出しなさい

totally,

完全に

because it is not going to come back again;

それは二度と戻っては来ないのだから

once gone, it is gone forever.

ひとたび去れば　永久に去ってしまう

But because of the misunderstanding

だがその誤解がゆえに…

which

誤解の

has been

歴史は

almost as old as man

ほぼ人類の歴史と同じで

and all the cultures have

すべての文化が

joined in it

片棒を担いできたのだが

they have made the present part of time.

彼らは現在を　時間の一部にしてしまった

And the present has nothing to do with time.

しかし　現在は時間とはまったく関係がない

If you are just here in this moment,

もしあなたがこの瞬間ここにいれば

there is no time.

そこに時間はない

There is immense silence,

そこには限りない静寂

stillness,

静けさがあり

no movement;

動きはなく

nothing is passing,

何も去来せず

everything has come to a sudden stop.

あらゆるものが突如として停止する

The present gives you the opportunity

現在はあなたにチャンスをくれる

to dive deep into the waters of life,

生の水の中へと深く潜り込み

or to fly high into the sky of life.

生の空へと高く舞い上がるチャンスを

But on both sides there are dangers

だが両側には危険がある

past and future

過去と未来は

are the most dangerous words in human language.

人間の言語のなかで最も危険な言葉だ

Between past and future,

過去と未来の間で

living in the present

現在を生きることは

is almost like walking on a tight rope

ぴんと張ったロープの上を歩くようなものだ

on both sides there is danger.

両側には危険がある

But once you have

だがひとたび

tasted the juice of the present,

現在というジュースを味わったなら

you don't care about dangers.

危険のことを気にしたりはしない

Once you are in tune with life,

ひとたび生に調律を合わせたなら

then nothing matters.

何も問題とはならない

And to me

私にとって

life is all there is.

生とはそこにあるものすべてだ

You can call it "God,"

「神」と呼んでもいい

but that is not a good name

だがいい呼び名ではない

because religions have contaminated it.

宗教によって汚染されたからだ

You can call it "existence,"

「存在」と呼んでもいい

which is beautiful.

そのほうが美しい

But

しかし

what you call

何と呼ぼうと

it is not of any consequence

そんなことはどうでもいい

The understanding should be clear

はっきり理解しなければならないのは

that you have only one moment in your hands

あなたが手にできるのは　ひとつの瞬間だけだ

the real moment.

文字どおり　瞬間だ

And again and again you will get that real moment.

そして次々に　その本物の瞬間を手にする

Either you live it

あなたは　それを生きるか

or you leave it unlived.

生きずにすますかのどちらかだ

Most of the people

ほとんどの人びとは

simply drag themselves from the cradle to the grave

ゆりかごから墓場へと　己をただ引きずっていく

without living at all

まったく生きることなく

I have heard about a Sufi statement

こんなスーフィーの言葉がある

that a man, when he died, suddenly realized,, "My God, I was alive."

ある男が死んで　突然気づいた 「なんて事だ　私は生きていた」

But only death

しかし　死は

as a contrast made him aware,

対比となって彼に気付かせただけだ

that for seventy years he had been alive,

70年間生きていたということを

but life itself

しかし生そのものは

had not enriched him.

彼を豊かにはしなかった

It is not the fault of life.

それは生のせいではない

It is our misunderstanding.

それは私たちの誤解なのだ

My insistence for watchfulness

私が注意深く見守るよう強調するのは

will give you life without even

それがあなたに生をもたらすからだ

thinking about it,

考えさえしなくてもだ

because watchfulness can only be in the present.

なぜなら注意深く見守ることは　現在においてのみ可能であり

You can witness only the present.

あなたが目撃できるのは現在だけだ

Live totally and live intensely,

トータルに生きなさい　強烈に生きなさい

so that each moment becomes golden,

あらゆる瞬間が黄金となるように

and your whole life

そしてあなたの生全体が

becomes a series of golden moments.

黄金の瞬間の連続となるように

Such a person never dies,

そういう者は決して死なない

because he has the Midas touch

彼にはミダスの手があるからだ

whatever he touches becomes golden.

触れるものすべてが黄金になる

When he touches death, death also becomes golden.

彼が死に触れれば　死も黄金になる

He enjoys it as much as life -- or perhaps more

彼は死を生と同じぐらい楽しむ　あるいはそれ以上に

because death is more condensed than life. Life is spread over

死は生よりも凝縮しているからだ　生は大きく広がっている

seventy,eighty years.

70年　80年と

Death happens in a single moment.

死はたった一つの瞬間に起こる

It is so condensed,

死は凝縮されているがゆえに

that if you have lived your life rightly,

あなたが生を正しく生きていれば

you will be able to enter into the mystery of death.

死の神秘へと入っていける

And the mystery of death is that it is only a cover.

そして死の神秘とは　死は表紙にすぎないということ

Inside is

内側にあるのは

your immortality,

あなたの不死性

your eternal life.

あなたの永遠の生だ
