First, just tell me your name and how old are you?

まずは、名前と年齢を教えてくれる？

My name is Ben, and I am eight years old.

僕の名前はベン、８歳だよ。

I'm Trey, and I am six and three-quarters.

僕はトレイ、６歳と９ヶ月なんだ。

My name is Tristan Byon, and I'm five years old.

僕の名前はトリスタン・バイオン、５歳だよ。

Today, we wanted to ask you about love.

今日はみんなに愛について聞くよ。

Love?

愛？

Uh-huh, love.

そうそう、愛だよ。

Ow!

[So this Valentine's Day, we asked some children for their thoughts on love.]

Have you ever been in love before?

今までに恋をした事はある？

No way; it's gross.

まさか、気持ち悪いよ。

It's gross?

そうかな？

Kissing is gross and...

キスなんて気持ち悪いし...

I don't wanna taste the thing in their mouth.

口の中の味なんてイヤだよ。

They're right; I don't like to kiss.

僕は本当にキスなんて好きじゃない。

Have you ever been in love in a romantic sense?

恋愛的な意味で、今までに恋をした事はある？

Mmm... Yeah.

うーん... あるよ。

He's my first kiss.

彼は私のファーストキスの相手なの。

I kept thinking about her.

ぼくはずっと彼女について考えていたんだ。

I was like, "Uh... uh..."

こんな感じで、「ええっと... ええっと... 」

And then I say, "YOLO."

それで、僕は「YOLO」って言ったんだ。

And then I just said, "Hey, can I have your number or email address?"

そして、僕はこう言ったんだ、「ねぇ、君の電話番号かメールアドレスを教えてくれない？」

But she's not really in love with me, so, you know.

でも、彼女は僕に恋をしているわけじゃないからね。

How do you know if you're in love or not?

恋をしているかどうか、どうすればわかるの？

Loving someone is like, a lot of eye contact.

誰かを愛するってことは、目を合わせているようなものなんだ。

You get the chills or something.

ゾクゾクする感じ。

Like, I can feel my heart pounding. 

胸がドキドキするような感じ。

Like a bomb.

爆弾みたいに。

Makes me warm and cozy, like a pillow.

枕みたいに心地が良くて、温もりを感じるの。

It feels sort of like you'll almost, like, never be lonely.

なんだか寂しくなくなるような気がするんだ。

Oh, wow, that's really good.

おぉ、すごい、それは本当に良いね。

So, Valentine's Day is coming up, right?

さて、もうすぐバレンタインデーがやってくる、そうだね？

How do you think we should show people that we love them?

相手に対してどう気持ちを伝えたらいいと思う？

Let me think about it real quick.

ちょっと考えさせて。

A lot of people buy flowers and chocolate.

花やチョコレートを買う人が多いね。

Do you think that's a good idea?

それは良い考えだと思う？

Yeah.

そうだね。

It's good, but everyone else does it.

いいんだけど、みんなやってるよね。

It would be better if you think of something different and, like, original.

もっと違う、オリジナルなものを考えたほうがいいと思うな。

You should actually say something that you like about her.

彼女の好きなところを言ってみるといいと思う。

I think when you're in love with somebody, then you should share with him and be kind.

誰かを愛しているのなら、気持ちを伝えて、優しくするべきだと思うの。

You should treat them, like, in a special way, like, if my mom⏤she wants to, like, read a book and in bed, then my dad he'll go to bed.

特別な方法で使うべきだと思うんだ、例えば、ママが本を読みたがったら、パパもベッドに入る。

But if my mom wants to watch TV, my dad will watch TV.

でも、ママがテレビを見たいって言ったら、パパもテレビを見るんだ。

Do you think that's⏤is that love?

それ⏤は、愛だと思う？

How come?

どうして？

It's like... my dad sort of appreciates her, so, whatever my mom wants to do, he'll do.

なんか...パパはママに感謝してるみたいで、ママがやりたいことは何でもやってくれるんだ。

When they dance together at some places.

いろんな場所で一緒に踊るんだ。

My dad... he's always the one, like, doing all the work for her.

僕のパパは...いつもママのために仕事をしてるんだ。

And he's like, "Yeah, of course, anything for you."

それで、パパはこう言うんだ、「もちろん、君のためなら何でもするよ。」

I think little things show love a lot.

ちょっとしたことでも愛が伝わると思うわ。

Like, you don't have to have lots of money and you can just be who you are.

お金をたくさん持っていなくていいし、ありのままの自分でいればいい、みたいな。

It's pretty simple.

とってもシンプルなこと。

What do you think true love is about?

真実の愛って何だと思う？

True love is, like, a mixture of friendship, appreciation, and, like, happiness.

真実の愛は、友情と感謝と幸せが混ざったようなもの。

That's it, huh?

それだけ？

[Maybe love isn't so complicated after all.]

[愛はそんなに複雑なものではないのかもしれません。]

[This Valentine's Day, let's spend less on flowers and chocolate and more on loving those we care about.]
