Hey friends, in today's episode, let us go around the world to explore the seven continents and learn what makes them unique.

今日のエピソードでは、7つの大陸を探検し、それぞれの大陸の特徴を学んでみよう。

The culture, the key points and most importantly, answer a 5 marks question, what are the seven continents of the world?

文化、重要なポイント、そして最も重要なのは、5点満点の質問に答えることだ。

When we look at a globe, it is not difficult to spot these large solid areas of land we call continents.

地球儀を見れば、大陸と呼ばれる大きな陸地を見つけるのは難しくない。

They come in all shapes and sizes, from small to large and the earth has seven continents in total.

小さなものから大きなものまで、形も大きさもさまざまで、地球には全部で7つの大陸がある。

They are Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Australia and Antarctica.

アジア、アフリカ、ヨーロッパ、北米、南米、オーストラリア、そして南極である。

Although these continents are part of one world, but they all have different climatic conditions, environment, population and much more.

これらの大陸はひとつの世界の一部ではあるが、気候条件、環境、人口、その他もろもろが異なっている。

So, let us have a brief look at what makes these continents so different from each other.

では、これらの大陸が互いに大きく異なるのはなぜなのか、簡単に見てみよう。

Let's start with the largest continent of them all, Asia, covering one third of all the land on earth.

地球上の陸地の3分の1を占める最大の大陸、アジアから始めよう。

Yes, my dear friends, it is home to a whopping two thirds of the world's population, living in 48 countries.

世界の人口のなんと3分の2が48カ国に住んでいるのだ。

Among these are China and India.

その中には中国とインドも含まれる。

They hold the number one and number two spots for being the most populous countries in the world, with nearly 1 billion people each.

それぞれ10億人近くを擁し、世界で最も人口の多い国の1位と2位を占めている。

Not only that, the world's highest mountain, Himalayas, as well as the highest plateau, the Tibetan Plateau, are located in the Asian continent and it is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Arctic Ocean.

それだけでなく、世界最高峰のヒマラヤ山脈と最高峰のチベット高原がアジア大陸にあり、太平洋、インド洋、北極海に囲まれている。

Next comes the second largest continent in the world, our very own Waka Waka, Africa, that lies between the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.

次に、大西洋とインド洋に挟まれた、世界で2番目に大きな大陸、われらがワカワカ、アフリカがやってくる。

It consists of 54 different countries that are more than any other continents.

他のどの大陸よりも多い54カ国で構成されている。

It is blessed with the world's longest river, the Nile, in the east and the northern part is engulfed with the world's largest desert, the Sahara Desert.

東部には世界最長のナイル川が流れ、北部には世界最大の砂漠サハラ砂漠が広がっている。

Not only that, but this continent is also home to many wild animals, such as lions, elephants, zebras, rhinos and much more.

それだけでなく、この大陸にはライオン、ゾウ、シマウマ、サイなど多くの野生動物が生息している。

Next, let us visit the world's second smallest continent, and that is Europe.

次に、世界で2番目に小さな大陸、ヨーロッパを訪れよう。

This place is home to one quarter of the total population in the world that stays in nearly 51 independent countries, with various ethnic groups and languages.

この地には、世界の総人口の4分の1が住んでおり、ほぼ51の独立国に滞在し、さまざまな民族と言語が混在している。

Europe's western coast is on the Atlantic Ocean, while it is divided from Africa by the Mediterranean Sea in the south.

ヨーロッパの西岸は大西洋に面し、南は地中海によってアフリカと分断されている。

The European part of Russia covers more area than any other country.

ロシアのヨーロッパ地域は、他のどの国よりも面積が広い。

And the Vatican City is the smallest country not only in Europe, but also in the world.

そしてバチカン市国は、ヨーロッパのみならず世界最小の国でもある。

Now, let us move forward and visit the world's third largest continent, North America.

さて、次は世界第3の大陸、北米を訪れよう。

North America is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean in the north, the Atlantic Ocean on the east, on the south by the Caribbean Sea, and on the west by the North Pacific Ocean.

北アメリカ大陸は、北は北極海、東は大西洋、南はカリブ海、西は北太平洋に囲まれている。

It is made of 23 different countries, some of which are the USA, Canada, Mexico as well as the Caribbean Islands.

アメリカ、カナダ、メキシコ、カリブ海の島々など23カ国からなる。

This beautiful place is blessed with natural wonders such as Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon.

この美しい場所は、イエローストーン国立公園やグランドキャニオンといった自然の驚異に恵まれている。

The human-made Panama Canal separates North America from our next continent, South America.

人間が作り出したパナマ運河は、北米大陸と次の大陸である南米大陸を隔てている。

South America is the world's fourth largest continent, bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean.

南米は世界で4番目に大きな大陸で、西は太平洋、北と東は大西洋に接している。

North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest.

北西には北アメリカとカリブ海がある。

It consists of 12 sovereign states, and some of them are famous for their soccer teams such as Brazil, Colombia and Argentina.

12の主権国家で構成され、ブラジル、コロンビア、アルゼンチンなどのサッカーチームで有名な国もある。

It is also blessed with the Amazon River, rainforest, the world's driest desert, the Atacama, and the world's longest mountain range, the Andes.

また、アマゾン川、熱帯雨林、世界一乾燥した砂漠アタカマ、世界最長の山脈アンデス山脈にも恵まれている。

It is also home to many unique animals such as capybara, llamas and anacondas.

また、カピバラ、ラマ、アナコンダといったユニークな動物も数多く生息している。

Next comes a continent which is also a country, and that is Australia.

次に国でもある大陸、それがオーストラリアだ。

And when you add New Zealand, New Guinea and a few other islands to it, we also call this continent Australasia.

さらにニュージーランド、ニューギニア、その他の島々を加えて、この大陸をオーストラレーシアと呼ぶ。

Australia lies between the Indian Ocean in the west and the Pacific in the east.

オーストラリアは、西はインド洋、東は太平洋に挟まれている。

Some of the famous places in this region are the Opera House in Sydney, Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Great Ocean Road, Victoria and much, much more.

この地域の有名な場所には、シドニーのオペラハウス、クイーンズランドのグレート・バリア・リーフ、ビクトリアのグレート・オーシャン・ロードなどがある。

And last, let us visit the South Pole of the Earth to see the fifth largest continent of the world, Antarctica, which is surrounded by the Southern Ocean.

そして最後に、地球の南極点を訪れ、南氷洋に囲まれた世界で5番目に大きな大陸、南極大陸を見てみよう。

This place is almost entirely covered in ice, and the temperature can drop below minus 80 degrees Celsius.

この場所はほぼ全体が氷に覆われ、気温はマイナス80度以下になることもある。

But despite such cold weather, this great white continent is home to many species such as seals, seabirds and many more.

しかし、このような寒さにもかかわらず、この白い大陸にはアザラシや海鳥など多くの生物が生息している。

Did you know, sometimes people think of Europe and Asia as a single continent and call it Eurasia?

ヨーロッパとアジアをひとつの大陸と考え、ユーラシア大陸と呼ぶことがあるのをご存じだろうか。

Also, India and many other regions around it like Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka makes the Indian subcontinent.

また、インドとその周辺のパキスタン、ブータン、ネパール、バングラデシュ、モルディブ、スリランカなど多くの地域がインド亜大陸を構成している。
