Well, I was waiting in line, and suddenly, the lunch lady mixed up my order with someone else's.

So, instead of my usual turkey sandwich, I ended up with a tuna sandwich.

It was a bit strange, but surprisingly delicious.

Now let's take a look at some phrases in the conversation.

では、会話のフレーズを見てみよう。

First, we have the phrase mix up.

まず、フレーズの取り違えがある。

So the meaning of the phrase that.

というフレーズの意味だ。

It refers to a situation where a mistake happened in the arrangement.

手配ミスのことを指す。

Example, I mixed up my luggage at the airport and now I have someone else's suitcase instead of mine.

例えば、空港で荷物を取り違えてしまい、自分のスーツケースではなく他人のスーツケースを持ってしまった。

That means I did that by mistake, not intentionally.

つまり、故意ではなく、間違ってやってしまったということだ。

The second phrase we have is end up.

2つ目のフレーズは "end up "だ。

So end up means to finally arrive at a particular result, often unexpectedly.

つまり、エンド・アップとは、しばしば予期せぬ形で、最終的に特定の結果に到達することを意味する。

Example, I didn't plan to work in this field, but I ended up loving it.

例えば、私はこの分野で働くつもりはなかったのですが、結局この分野が大好きになりました。

The third phrase is catch up.

3つ目のフレーズはキャッチアップだ。

So the phrase catch up has several meanings.

つまり、キャッチアップという言葉にはいくつかの意味がある。

But when she says in the conversation, I need to catch up on some TV shows.

でも、彼女が会話の中で、私はテレビ番組に追いつく必要がある、と言った。

She wants to watch episodes on TV shows that she hasn't seen yet.

That means she is behind on the latest episodes and she wants to get up to date.

The fourth one, same old.

4本目も相変わらず。

It is commonly used to express that things are unchanged or that a situation is recurring familiarly.

物事が変わっていないことや、ある状況が慣れ親しんで繰り返されていることを表現するときによく使われる。

For example, nothing new, just the same old problems.

例えば、新しいことは何もなく、ただ昔と同じ問題があるだけだ。

Hit the gym is an informal expression that means to go to the gym or engage in a workout or exercise session.

Hit the gymは、ジムに行く、ワークアウトやエクササイズをする、という意味のインフォーマルな表現である。

The sixth one, the term chill, is often associated with relaxation.

6つ目の「冷やす」という言葉は、しばしばリラックスを連想させる。

For example, after a long day at work, I like to chill and watch TV.

例えば、仕事で長い一日を過ごした後は、テレビを見ながらくつろぐのが好きだ。

Hey, Emma, how's everything going?

In this part, you'll be asked some questions to make sure that you understand the meaning of the words that we've mentioned.

The first one is, to finally arrive at a particular result, often unexpectedly, we need you to guess the meaning of the sentence by choosing one word from the list.

まず1つ目は、最終的に特定の結果を導き出すために、しばしば予期せぬことがあるが、リストから単語を1つ選んで文の意味を推測してもらう必要がある。

The right answer is, end up.
