In this part of the speaking test, you'll be shown an image.

Then you'll have 45 seconds to prepare what you're going to say.

45 秒以内に話す内容を決めてください。

You'll want to use this time to think and make notes.

この時間を使って考えた理、メモをとったりしてください。

Next, you'll have 45 seconds to speak and describe what you see.

次に、45 秒間で見たことを話してください。

It's pretty straightforward, but what do you say?

簡単なことですが、何を話しますか？

Have a look at this picture.

この写真を見てください。

What do you see?

何が見えますか？

A lot of things, right?

いろいろでしょう？

So what do you need to do, and how can you maximize your score?

では、何をすればいいのか、どうすればスコアを最大化できるのですか？

First, during that 45 seconds, look and make notes.

まず、45 秒の間に、見て、メモを取りましょう。

Here are a few things to focus on.

注目すべき点をいくつか挙げます。

First, the big picture.

まず、全体像です。

What is happening here generally?

ここで何が起こっているのですか？

In this image, you can see a group of people are cooking or learning to cook.

この画像では、料理をしている、あるいは料理を習っているグループが見えますね。

Next, notice individual activities.

次に、個々の活動を見てみましょう。

I can see people cutting what might be vegetables or meat with knives.

ナイフで野菜や肉を切っているのが見えます

They're all wearing aprons.

みんなエプロンしています。

In this photo, we can see their faces quite clearly as well.

この写真では、顔もはっきり見えます。

In this case, they're smiling.

この場合はみんなが笑顔です。

And remember, you have 45 seconds to prepare.

45 秒以内に準備してください。

Once those 45 seconds are over, you will start speaking, describing the general scene.

45秒が経過すると、話し始めて、その場面を説明します。

Think of a few simple, quick phrases to start the description.

簡単なフレーズをいくつか考えてください。

I can see...

私が…を見えます。

This appears to be...

これは…のようです。

It looks like this is...

これは…のように見えます。

Or it looks like they are...

Then, be a bit more specific about one or two of the people.

I can see a man wearing...

I can see a woman cutting...

It looks as though...

There might be...

And make comparisons where possible.

そして可能な限り比較しましょう。

While the chef looks like he knows what he's doing, the others look like they are only learning how to cook.

シェフは自分のやっていることを理解しているように見えますが、他の人は料理の勉強をしているようにしか見えません。

So let's listen to a sample answer.

Now remember, it's not just what I say; it's how I say it.

覚えておいてほしいのは、何を言うかだけではなく、どう言うかなんです。

Listen to the rhythm and stress when I speak.

私が話すときのリズムとストレスに耳を傾けてください。

You do not want your answer to sound flat and without rhythm.

リズムのない平坦な答えにならないようにね。

Like this.

こんな感じです。

"This appears to be a group of people learning how to cook.

「料理 を習うグループのようです。」

In the middle of the group, there is a man in a chef's hat and chef's uniform.

「グループの真ん中に、シェフ帽とシェフ服を着た男がいます。」

It looks as though..."

「まるで…」

It should sound like this.

このように聞こえるはずです。

"This appears to be a group of people learning how to cook.

「料理を習っているグループのようです。」

In the middle of the group, there is a man in a chef's hat and chef's uniform.

「グループの真ん中に、シェフ帽とシェフ服を着た男がいます。」

It looks as though he may be teaching the others to cook.

「他の人に料理を教えているようです。」

On either side of him are young people doing a number of typical activities.

「彼の両脇には、定番の活動をする若者たちがいます。」

The man and woman to his right are both chopping vegetables on a chopping board.

「右隣の男女はまな板の上で野菜を切っています。」

While the woman to the left of the chef is stirring the contents of the frying pan as another woman adds pepper.

「シェフの左隣の女性がフライパンの中身をかき混ぜている間に、もう一人の女性が胡椒を加えています。」

They are all smiling and it looks like they're having fun."

「みんな笑顔で楽しそうです。」

And that's it.
