So I thought it would be a good idea to make another English lesson at the mall.

だから、モールでもう1つの英語レッスンをするのが良いアイデアだと思いました。

I did one of these a few years ago now, but I thought it would be fun to do another one.

何年か前にもやったけど、またやっても面白いかなと思って。

So here we are at the mall.

というわけで、ショッピングモールにやってきました。

And I wanted to start by telling you about three verbs that I use when I talk about the mall.

そして、ショッピングモールについて話すときに使う3つの動詞についてお話したいと思います。

I would say something like this:

こんな感じです。

"I'm here today to go shopping."

「I'm here today to go shopping.（今日は買い物に来ました。）」

I might also say, "I'm here today to do some shopping."

「I'm here today to do some shopping.」って言うかもしれません。

Be careful with that one, though.

それを使うとき気をつけましょう。

You do need the word some in there or you can even use a little bit.

その文には「some」という単語が必要です。それを使うか、「a little bit」を使いましょう。

"I'm here today to do a little bit of shopping."

「今日はちょっと買い物に。」

And then, also, in English, we like to use the word "grab" a lot.

それから、英語では 「grab 」という単語をよく使います。

"I'm here to grab some things."

「今日はちょっと買い物に。」

I'm not actually going to buy anything, though.

何も買うつもりはないけどね。

This is I'm just giving those as examples.

これは例として挙げただけです。

But once again, welcome to this English lesson at the mall.

でも、もう一度、このショッピングモールでの英語レッスンにようこそ。

So I'm happy because this mall still has a map of the mall.

このショッピングモールにはまだ地図があるから嬉しいわ。

You can see a map of the mall up there and a list of all the stores.

モールの地図と、 全店舗のリストがあります。

Different mall that I was at recently, you have to download an app in order to find stores in the mall.

最近行った別のショッピングモールでは、アプリをダウンロードしないとモール内の店舗を見つけられません。

I like this better.

こっちの方がいいですね。

You'll usually find a map like this.

だいたいこんな感じの地図があります。

Close to the entrance of the mall.

ショッピングモールの入り口近くでね。

We would call that the entrance.

入り口と呼びます。

There's no main entrance in this mall, though.

このモールに正面玄関はありませんけど。

There's just a lot of entrances like one on every side of the mall, if not more.

モールには、各側面に1つ以上の入口があるので、入り口がたくさんあります。

So the map of the mall and one of the entrances.

モールの地図と入り口の一つです。

Oh and by the way, mall is actually the short way of saying shopping mall.

ちなみに、モールとはショッピングモールの略称です。

So I am right now at a shopping mall in Burlington, Ontario.

今、オンタリオ州バーリントンのショッピングモールにいます。

If I wanted to speak quickly, though, I would just say, "Right now, I'm at a mall in Burlington, Ontario."

「私は今、オンタリオ州バーリントンのモールにいます 」と言えばいいです。

So in North America, we generally refer to all of the places where you can buy things as either stores or shops.

北米では一般的に、物を買うことができる場所をすべて店やショップと呼んでいます。

We use those two words interchangeably quite a bit.

この2つの言葉はよく使われます。

I know if you're learning British English, there might be a slight difference between stores and shops.

イギリス英語を学んでいる場合、店（stores）とショップ（shops）の間にわずかな違いがあるかもしれません。

But this behind me, I would call it a store.

でも、この後ろにあるのは、store って言うんですよ。

I might also call it a shop.

shop と呼んでもいいかも。

I would use both words interchangeably.

両方の言葉を交換可能に使います。

But this down here, let me spin you around.

でも、この下は......回してあげますね。

You look down here, I would call this a kiosk when it's located kind of in the middle part of the mall.

ここを見てください。モールの中央部にある場合、私はこれを「kiosk」と呼びます。

We call these little things kiosks.

このような小さなところを「kiosk」と呼んでいます。

You can see down the middle, there are a number of different kiosks here.

中央を見てみると、ここにはいくつかの異なる「kiosk」があります。

You can buy a case for your cell phone.

携帯のケースが買えます。

You can buy popcorn and here, you can buy more cases for your cell phone or a cell phone if you need one.

ここではポップコーンを購入できますし、必要なら携帯電話のケースや携帯電話も購入できます。

So I thought real quick, we should review the vocabulary we use to talk about different kinds of stores.

だから、いろいろな種類の店について話すときに使う語彙を復習しておこうと思ったんです。

This store behind me is a computer store.

この店はコンピューターショップです。

This is a place where they sell computers.

パソコンを売っている店です。

This store here is a shoe store.

この店は靴屋です。

This is where you would come if you wanted to buy a new pair of shoes.

新しい靴を買いたい時に来る店です。

This is a clothing store.

洋服屋さんです。

You would come to a store like this if you needed to buy a shirt or a skirt or maybe you need a suit, you would definitely come to a clothing store if you needed to buy clothes.

シャツやスカートを買ったり、スーツを買ったり、服を買うなら絶対に洋服屋に来るでしょう。

We also still have department stores at our malls.

デパートは今でもショッピングモールにありますよ。

A department store is a large store that sells pretty much everything.

デパートは何でも揃う大きな店です。

This department store sells clothing.

このデパートは洋服を売っています。

But if you look over here, you can also buy pots and pans and other things for your kitchen.

でも、こっちを見ると、鍋やフライパンなど、キッチンで使うものも売っています。

So these stores are generally quite big. Department stores generally have everything and usually there's more than one floor.

これらの店舗は一般的にかなり大きいです。デパートは一般的に何でも揃っていて、大抵は複数のフロアがあるんです。

I think this one has two or three floors.

ここは 2 階か 3 階だと思います。

There's lots of things you could buy here.

いろんなものが買えますよ。

So right now I'm going down the escalator.

今はエスカレーターを下りるところです。

An escalator is this really cool thing that you can go on when you want to get from one floor to another.

エスカレーターというのは、ある階から別の階へ移動するときに乗る、とてもかっこいいものです。

It's kind of like stairs for lazy people.

怠け者のための階段みたいなもんですね。

I remember as a kid the first time I went on an escalator, I actually forgot to take a step at the end and I tripped, but as an adult, I'm pretty good at going up and down the escalator.

子供の頃、初めてエスカレーターに乗った時、最後に一歩踏み出すのを忘れてつまずいたのを覚えています。でも、大人になると、エスカレーターを上り下りするのはかなり得意です。

So I personally have not done a lot of shopping at a store like this.

個人的にはこういうお店であまり買い物をしたことがありません。

This is a dress store.

ドレスショップです。

You would come to a store like this if you were going to a fancy party or a wedding and you needed to find a dress.

派手なパーティーや結婚式で、ドレスが必要な時に来る店です。

So I have been to a store like this, though.

だからこういう店に行ったことがあるんだけどね。

This is a jewelry store.

宝石店です。

I have been to jewelry stores not to buy jewelry for myself, but I have bought jewelry for Jen in the past.

自分のために宝石を買うわけじゃないですが、ジェンのために宝石を買ったことはあります。

So this is a jewelry store.

ここは宝石店なんですね。

This is where you would come if you needed earrings or maybe a necklace, uh or maybe a nice ring.

ここは、イヤリングやネックレス、素敵な指輪が必要な場合に来る場所です。

So at the mall, there are a lot of stores, but the two kinds of stores that I see most often would be clothing stores.

ショッピングモールにはたくさんのお店がありますが、よく見かけるのは洋服屋さんですね。

And if you look behind me over here, another shoe store, I find that the majority of the stores at malls in my part of the world are either selling clothing or they're selling shoes.

そして、私の後ろを見ると、もう1つの靴屋があります。私の地域のモールの大半の店は、服や靴を販売していることが多いです。

So the store we're about to go in is one of my favorite stores.

これから行く店はお気に入りの店なんです。

I love bookstores.

本屋が好きなんです。

I love coming and seeing what new books have come out recently.

最近出た新刊を見に来るのが好きです。

This bookstore in particular is a very, very nice store to shop at.

特にこの本屋はとても良い店ですよ。

I've bought many, many books in this bookstore.

この本屋で何冊も何冊も本を買いました。

So if you are athletic, if you like to play sports, you might want to go to a sporting goods store to buy some shoes or some shorts or other athletic gear.

もしあなたがアスリートで、スポーツをするのが好きなら、靴やショートパンツ、その他のスポーツ用品を買うためにスポーツ用品店に行きたいと思うかもしれません。

I'm not sure if that's the name that's used around the world in English.

それが英語で世界中で使われてる名前かどうかはわからないけど。

But in Canada, we would call this a sporting goods store.

でもカナダでは、「sporting goods stor」って言うんですよ。

You can come here and buy anything you need for playing different sports.

異なるスポーツに必要なものは何でも揃います。

You could buy a basketball, you could buy ice skates.

バスケもアイススケートも買えます。

I'll show you some on the wall right here.

壁に貼ってあるのを見せましょう。

After all, we are in Canada, there are a lot of different ice skates available to be purchased here.

ここはカナダですから、いろんなアイススケートが売ってます。

So if you are into sports, if you like playing sports, this would be the store for you.

スポーツが好きな人、スポーツをするのが好きな人にはお勧めのお店です。

A sporting goods store.

スポーツ用品店。

So sometimes you're not feeling well.

体調が悪い時もありますね。

And if that's the case, you might want to go and find a drug store.

そんな時は、ドラッグストアを探してみては？

So in Canada, we would call this either a drug store or a pharmacy.

カナダでは、ドラッグストアを「drug store」や「 pharmacy」と呼びます。

This is a place you would go if a doctor gave you a prescription and you needed to get it filled or maybe you just need something because you have a headache or maybe because you've hurt yourself and you just need some bandages.

これは、医師が処方箋を出してくれて、それを受け取りに行く必要がある場合や、頭痛があるために何かが必要な場合、または怪我をしたために包帯が必要な場合に行く場所です。

So you would then go to a drugstore.

ドラッグストアに行くんですね。

When my kids were younger, they loved going to stores like this.

子供が小さい頃、こういう店に行くのが好きでした。

This is a toy store.

ここはおもちゃ屋さんです。

So if you needed to buy puzzles or games or stuffed animals or any other types of toys, this would be a great store to come to.

パズルとかゲームとかぬいぐるみとか、おもちゃを買うならこの店がいいでしょう。

So, always a favorite with my kids when they were little.

子供たちが小さい頃よく行ったわ。

This is a toy store.

ここはおもちゃ屋さんです。

So it doesn't surprise me that this store is closed.

この店が閉店しても驚きません。

This is what we would have called a record store or a CD store.

レコード屋とか CD 屋と呼ばれるような店ですね。

This is a place where you could buy music, but people usually don't buy their music that way anymore.

ここは音楽を買うことができる場所ですが、普通の人はもうそのような方法で音楽を買うことはありません。

Usually they get their music online.

普通はネットで買うでしょう。

So a store like this used to be very, very popular.

昔はこういう店が流行ってたんです。

But as you can see, even though the mall is open, this store is closed.

でも見ての通り、モールは開いてるのにこの店は閉まっています。

So if you're wondering why there aren't very many people here, it's probably because I'm here on a Monday afternoon.

なぜ人が少ないのかと思ったら、私が月曜日の午後にここにいるからでしょう。

So generally, people shop a lot on the weekends and maybe at night after work.

一般的に買い物をするのは、週末や仕事終わりの夜が多いですね。

But, I'm here today at one o'clock on a Monday.

でも、今日は月曜の 1 時に来ました。

So the mall is a little bit empty.

ショッピングモールはガラガラです。

So it's pretty common for Canadians to go south in the winter. Jen and I don't do that very often.

カナダ人は冬に南へ行くのが一般的なんです。ジェンと私はあまり行かないけど。

But if we did, we might come to a store like this to buy a bathing suit.

でももし必要なら、水着を買うためにこのような店に来るかもしれません。

Yes, this is an entire store that is just filled with bathing suits and things you would buy if you were going south for the winter.

そう、ここは店全体が水着や、冬に南へ行くときに買うようなもので埋め尽くされているんです。

So this is another store that I don't know a lot about, but this is a store that sells makeup.

ここもよく知らないんですけど、化粧品を売ってる店なんです。

So if you needed nail polish or you needed lipstick or you needed anything else, eyeliner. I don't even know all the words that you would use to describe what they sell in the store.

もしネイルや口紅、またはアイライナーなどの他の何かが必要な場合、この店で買うことができます。私は彼らが売っているものすべての言葉を知らないです。

But you would come to this makeup store if you wanted to buy those things.

でも、そういうものを買おうと思ったら、この化粧品店に来るんです。

So when it comes to stores that I don't really know anything about and I might actually blush a little bit as I talk about this one.

This is a lingerie store.

肌着類を売っているお店です。

This is a store you would go to for more intimate apparel.

個人的な服を買いに行く店です。

I guess that's a good way to describe it, but it's here.

It's at the mall.

ショッピングモールにありますよ。

I've never shopped here, but this is a lingerie store.

So I've mentioned this in other videos uh when you're in Canada and you need to go to the washroom, you look for a sign like this and yes, we do use the word washroom.

他の動画でも言及しましたが、カナダではトイレに行く必要がある場合、このようなサインを探します。はい、私たちは「washroom」という言葉を使います。

If you were in the United States, you might use bathroom or restroom.

アメリカだったら、「bathroom」や「restroom」を使うかもしれません。

But certainly, if you need to go to the washroom or go to the bathroom uh or go to the restroom, you would certainly find one at a mall and it's usually in the food court.

でも確かに、洗面所やトイレに行きたくなったら、ショッピングモールに行けば、たいていはフードコートにあります。

It's usually at the back of the food court.

フードコートの奥にありますよ。

So this is one of my favorite places to go to in any mall. This is the food court.

ショッピングモールで一番好きな場所です。フードコートです。

The food court is the place in the mall where you can find all different types of restaurants in this food court.

このフードコートには、様々な種類のレストランがあります。

You can buy French fries, you can buy coffee, you can buy bagels, you can buy chicken, you can buy subs.

フライドポテトも、コーヒーも、ベーグルも、チキンも、サブも買えます。

Uh, you can buy almost anything in this food court.

フードコートに行けば何でも買えますよ。

Uh, I think I might get some food myself in just a minute but there's so many choices.

ええと、私もちょっと食べに行こうかな。でも選択肢が多すぎるわ。

I'm not sure what I'm gonna get.
