How often to water seedlings?
Watering seedlings appropriately is crucial for their healthy growth. Seedlings require
consistent moisture, but their tender roots are prone to rot if overwatered.
Initially, after sowing, keep the soil evenly moist to encourage germination. Once seedlings
sprout, it's best to water from below using a tray to prevent damping-off, a fungal disease.
Allow seedlings to absorb water for 30 minutes, then drain any excess.
As they grow, reduce frequency to prevent over-saturation. A good rule
is to water when the top half-inch of soil feels dry to the touch.
Typically, this means watering daily or every other day,
but it's essential to adjust based on your environment and the soil's moisture content.
Using a mister can also help maintain humidity.
Proper watering ensures seedlings develop strong roots and thrive
as they transition to larger pots or garden beds.
