I'm Dr. Willard Wigan, MBE.

私はウィラード・ウィガン博士（MBE）です。

I make the smallest sculptures in the world.

わたしは世界一小さな彫刻を作れます。

I've made 14 camels in the eye of a needle, the queen's carriage.

針の穴に14頭のラクダ、女王の馬車を作りました。

And I've made one of the queen herself, Mount Rushmore, Sunseeker yacht, Evolution of Man, Mary Antoinette.

そして、女王自身のもの、マウントラッシュモア、サンシーカーヨット、人間の進化、メアリーアントワネットを作ったことがあります。

Little Red Riding Hood, Einstein, and more. I'd be here forever, trying to tell you that many, you know.

赤ずきんちゃん、アインシュタイン、などなど。その多さを伝えようとすると、いつまでもここにいることになるんです、ね。

It all began with an ant's nest.

すべては、アリの巣から始まりました。

I thought the ants are homeless.

蟻はホームレスなのでは？

So I started making them tables and chairs.

それで、テーブルや椅子を作るようになったんです。

I started picking up little fragments of splinters and slicing them and constructing and building little houses.

小さな破片を拾ってスライスし、小さな家を建設して建てるようになりました。

I'm autistic and in school, they didn't really care.

私は自閉症で、学校では、特に気にされませんでした。

I call it a learning difference.

私はそれを学習の差と呼んでいます。

I just learned different to anybody else.

ただ、他の人とは違う学びをしました。

I started experimenting to see how small I could really go.

本当にどこまで小さくできるのか、実験を始めたんです。

How do you make something so beautiful?

どうしたらこんなに美しいものができるのでしょうか？

When I'm working on a microscopic level, I have to work between my heartbeat because if I don't, the pulse in my finger will cause problems.

ミクロの仕事をするときは、心臓の鼓動の間に仕事をしないと、指の脈拍が問題を起こすからです。

But the tools are very important because they all vary. There's all different types of tools.

でも、道具は全部違うので、とても重要です。ツールの種類は全部違うんです。

The cutting is the most important thing; slicing and twisting and bending and manipulating.

切ることが一番重要で、切ったり、ねじったり、曲げたりして操作します。

I use a little broken shard of diamond, smashed, and it's like a little splinter.

ダイヤモンドの破片を少し砕いたものを使っているんです。

It looks like a stone age splint, big microscopic.

石器時代の添え木のような、大きな顕微鏡のようなものです。

So it's like my pulse is a little jack hammer, chiseling away till I get the shape I want.

だから、私の脈は小さなジャックハンマーのようなもので、思い通りの形になるまでノミで削っているんです。

I normally pluck an eyelash out from the corner of my eye and then attach it to a little cocktail stick and then I paint with it.

普段は目尻からまつ毛を抜いて、それを小さなカクテルスティックにつけて、それで絵を描いています。

I work on five at a time.

一度に5つずつ作業しています。

If I work on one, it'll drive me mad.

一人で作業したら気が狂いそうです。

I have two world records.

私は2つの世界記録を持っています。

The smallest sculptures ever made by human hands.

人間の手によって作られた史上最小の彫刻。

No machine, no nanotechnology.

機械もナノテクもありません。

But these micro sculptures don't always go to plan.

しかし、このマイクロスカルプチャーは、いつも計画通りにいくわけではありません。

I remember once I was making a sculpture of Alice in Wonderland.

そういえば以前、「不思議の国のアリス」の彫刻を作っていたことがありましたね。

After I'd made the Mad Hatter, I made the teapot. (I) made Alice separately and I was lifting her, put her into the needle and my mobile phone went off.

マッドハッターを作った後、ティーポットを作りました。(私は)アリスを別に作って、持ち上げて、針に入れていたら、携帯電話が鳴りました。

I went like this, "Who's that?"

こんな感じで、"誰それ？"と行ってきました。

And I inhaled Alice.

そして、アリスを吸い込みました。

It's just went... she's in my cavity somewhere. Gone.

ただ、消えた...彼女は私の空洞のどこかにいる。消えてしまいました。

The work that I do, it doesn't belong to me.

自分の仕事は、自分のものにはなりません。

I like other people seeing it.

他の人が見るのが好きだからです。

I like to sit there and watch them.

座って見ているのが好きです。

Some people burst into tears when they see my work, you know, and that brings it home to me what I've done.

私の作品を見て、涙を流してくれる人もいるんですよ。

The time that I've put in has been worth it.

時間をかけた甲斐があったというものです。

So, what next for Willard?

さて、ウィラードの次はどうなるのでしょうか？

An ice stack in the needle? Yeah, that's a good one.
