But for this video, I've chosen some words that even native speakers find rather weird.

Okay, the first word is diarrhoea.

I know this isn't a very nice thing to talk about, but it's a part of life, it happens sometimes, so it's a word we need to know.

これはあまり話すのにいいトピックではないですが、人生において時々起こることなので、知っておくべき単語です。

(diarrhoea: an illness in which the body's solid waste is emptied from the bowels more frequently than usual and is more liquid.)

I always forget how to spell this word.

この単語のスペルをいつも忘れてしまいます。

Admittedly, the American spelling is a little more logical for modern-day English, but it's still not very easy.

確かに、アメリカ英語のスペルは、現代の英語としては少し論理的ではありますが、それでもまだ簡単ではありません。

The British and American pronunciations are the same, people just say them with different accents.

イギリス英語とアメリカ英語は発音は同じで、アクセントが異なります。

For example, British people might say "diarrhoea" and Americans would say something like "diarrhea".

例えば、イギリス人は「diarrhoea」と言い、アメリカ人は「diarrhea」と言います。

The second word is apostrophe.

2つ目の単語は apostrophe (アポストロフィ)です。

It's not "apo-strofe" or "apo-strofeh".

In American English, it's "apostrophe".

The third word is gauge.

3つ目の言葉は、「gauge (測定する) 」です。

(Gauge: 1. (verb) to calculate an amount, especially by using a measuring device. E.g. We need a special thermometer to gauge the temperature accurately.)

Gauge: 1.(動詞) 測定器を使用して量を計算すること。例：温度を正確に測るには特別な温度計が必要です。

(2. (noun) a device for measuring something. E.g. a fuel gauge.)

2: (名詞) 何かを図るための機器。例：燃料計

This is not "gorge", and I recently heard a native English speaker say that.

これは「gorge (ゴージ)」ではありません。最近、英語のネイティブスピーカーがそのように言っているのを聞いたことがあります。

The pronunciation is the same in British and American English.

イギリス英語でもアメリカ英語でも発音は同じです。

It will just sound a bit different, again, depending on who is saying it.

ただ、言う人によって、少し言い方が違ってきます。

The fourth word is breakfast.

４つ目は「breakfast (朝食)」

Breakfast.

This is a very simple word⏤I'm sure you all know what it means⏤but make sure you do not say "break fast".

これはとても簡単な言葉で、皆さんは意味を知っていると思います。しかし、「break fast (ブレイク-ファスト)」とは言わないように気をつけてください。

This is "breakfast".

これは「breakfast (ブレックファスト)」です。

Again, the pronunciation is the same in British and American English.

The next word is epitome.

次の言葉は、epitome (典型)です。

(epitome: a perfect example of something. E.g. She is the epitome of a modern young woman. That director was considered the epitome of evil.)

Epitome: 何かの完璧な例。例：彼女は現代の若い女性の典型だ。あの監督は悪魔の典型だと思われていた。

This is not "epi-tome".

これは「epi-tome (エピトーム)」ではありません。

"Epitome" is the British pronunciation, and the American pronunciation is "epitome".

「Epitome」はイギリス英語の発音で、アメリカ英語の発音では「epitome」です。

The next word is leisure.

次の言葉は、leisure (余暇、暇)です。

Leisure.

Leisure.

(leisure: time that is spent not working or studying, but doing what you enjoy (often used in front of other nouns). E.g. What do you do in your leisure time? He enjoys many different leisure activities.)

leisure: 仕事でも勉強でもなく、自分の好きなことをして過ごす時間（他の名詞の前につけて使われることが多い）。例：暇な時間には何をしていますか？様々な余暇の活動を楽しんでいる)

"Leisure" is the British pronunciation, and the American pronunciation is "leisure".

「Leisure (レジャー)」はイギリスの発音で、アメリカの発音は 「leisure (リージャー)」です。

The final word is recipe.

最後は recipe (レシピ) です。

Recipe.

Recipe.

It's not "resaip".

「resaip (レサイプ)」ではありません。

It's "recipe".

「recipe (レシピ)」です。

And it's basically the same in British and American English.

イギリス英語でもアメリカ英語でも基本的に同じです。
