  • You finally got your degree? That's great. I knew you could do it. No. Way

  • to go. That's... that's amazing. Yeah. We should celebrate. Yeah, tomorrow.

  • Perfect. I'll see you then. Bye. Good job. Hey, everyone. I'm Alex. Thanks for

  • clicking, and welcome to this lesson on: Encouraging and praising others in

  • English. So, we all have friends, family, people we knowand one way to

  • be a good friend, a good brother, a good sister, a good husband, wife, father,

  • mother, anything you can think of when it comes to human relationships is to

  • support, and encourage, and be positive with one another. So, today, I'm going

  • to give you some very quick and some very common phrases, sentences,

  • imperatives you can use to help encourage the people in your life to

  • show that you love them, support them, and to praise them for a job well done.

  • Okay? So, let's start with encouragement. So, first we have: "Go

  • for it". Okay? So, "Go for it" means, like: Try it; do it. If your friend is

  • on the fencewhich means, like, they're not sure if they want to do

  • something or try something; if they want to apply for a job, or take the IELTS

  • test in two months, or something like thatand you say: "You know what?

  • You're really smart. Go for it. Try it." Okay? So, you're encouraging them.

  • Another way to encourage this person who has the IELTS in two months: "You can do

  • it." Right? "I've seen your test results. I've seen how you speak

  • English, and write in English, and how you listen. You can do it. Go for it.

  • Just try". Okay. Next: "You got this". Okay? Like: "This is not gonna be a

  • problem for you; you will be able to achieve your goal. You can do it; you

  • will be able to do it. You got this". This is... the next two are more slang.

  • So: "You're gonna rock it". Okay? Like: You will rock this test, you will rock

  • this IELTS exam, or you will rock this job interview. So, you just want to give

  • a positive phrase to the person who's gonna go to a job interview or to do

  • their IELTS exam, and you say: "You know what? I believe in you. You're gonna

  • rock it. You're gonna smash it", even, is another one. There's a bonus one.

  • Okay? Next: "You're gonna kill it". Just... "this thing has no chance

  • against you. This job interview, it's gonna be dead, because you're so

  • amazing. You're gonna kill it". Okay? So, again, these are two slang ways to

  • Praise. So, after someone gets that job that they wanted; they get that IELTS

  • encourage other people. Another way to encourage someone... again, someone is

  • looking at job advertisements on the internet, and they think: "That sounds

  • pretty good." And they call you, and they tell you: "Yeah, I'm looking at

  • score. Right? They do well in that job interview. You want to praise them, and

  • this job, and I have to do X, Y, and Z". And you think... and you say: "You know

  • what? You would be perfect for that. You have those skills. You would be perfect

  • for that job. Apply for it. Don't worry. Go for it. You can do it. You got this".

  • Okay? And, finally, another way to encourage others: "Just do it. Why not?

  • Right? Just try. You can do this; you would be a perfect fit for that. That's

  • perfect for you. Just do it. Apply". All right. Now, why am I going to this side?

  • I put everything on this side, so I have space here. Okay.

  • you want to say: "Wow. Well done". Okay? So, you can say: "Good work". Okay? You

  • can say: "Nice job". You can also flip "good" and "nice" in these first two

  • phrases, and you can say: "Nice work" or "Good job". Okay? "You got it. I knew

  • it". Right? "I knew you could do it". That's later. But: "You got it". Right?

  • Like: "You... you achieved your goal. I believed in you. I knew you could do

  • it". "You got it" — another way: "You did it! I knew you could". You're

  • praising them by saying: "Good work. Nice job. You got it. You did it. Way to

  • go. Bravo". Okay? So, "Bravo" — there's another one. I mean, if you want to be

  • sarcastic with your friends, and you could say: "Bravo". You could say that,

  • too. Right? If you have... depending on the friends that you have. So, "Way to

  • go. That's it. That's it. You did it". Okay? And I already said this one: "I

  • knew you could do it. I believed in you. You... you are an amazing person, so I

  • knew you could do it". And, finally, just, like, slang: "You're gonna rock

  • it". You can say: "You know what? You rock. You're amazing. You're incredible.

  • You're a good person. People love youit's true". All right? So: "You're good

  • enough. You're smart enough. You're strong. You're beautiful. You're kind.

  • You rock". Okay?

  • So, I hope in this video, you have learned some very useful, some common

  • ways to help encourage the people in your life. There are a lot of things in

  • the world that can make us feel down, and these are some ways that we can, you

  • know... help return some positivity to our lives, to the world, to the people

  • who surround us. And, you know... if we share the love, if we encourage others,

  • we can lift up this world; lift up the people in our lives, and make this a

  • better place for everybody. So, you're at the end of the video. Good work. Nice

  • job. You rock. I knew you could do it. If you want to test your understanding
