In today's video, I'm gonna be telling you about some informal contractions including the word "of". 

今回の動画では　"of" という単語を含むちょっとくだけた短縮表現をご紹介します

Now, it's important to remember that these types of contractions are just for conversation; you don't wanna use them in writing.

まず、重要なのは これからお教えする短縮表現が会話向けだということ　書き言葉としては使わない方が良いでしょう

So pay close attention, and if you memorize how to say these contractions, you're gonna start sounding just like a native speaker.

では、集中してください　今回の短縮表現を覚えることができたら　ネイティブのように聞こえますよ

Let's take a look.

Alright, let's take a look at my list of common contractions including the word "of". 

"of" という単語を含む よくある短縮表現の一覧を見てみましょう

Now, in this list, instead of saying "of", we're going to use the "schwa" sound, the kind of /ə/ sound to make these contraction(s). 

ここでは "of" と発音せずに　曖昧 (あいまい) 母音を使います　/ə/のように発音し、単語を短くします

I have six examples. I'll say each of them twice. 

ここに 6 つの例があります　それぞれ 2 回ずつ発音しますね

The first time, I'll say it slowly.

初めは ゆっくり発音します

The second time, I'll say it at a normal speed, like a native speaker.

2 回目は 通常の速さで発音します　ネイティブのスピードです

It's really important that you repeat after me out loud each time.

すごく重要なのは　私が発音したら、その都度　声に出して繰り返すこと

Here we go.

では いきましょう

Okay, first one. "Kind of" = "kinda".

１つめ　"/kʌɪnd əv /" = /kʌɪndə/ 「～な方だ、ちょっと～だ」

She's kinda cute.

彼女は 可愛い方だ

Next. "Sort of" = "sorta".

次は "so:t əv" = "so:tə"「～な方だ、ちょっと～だ」

I'm sorta tired.

ちょっと疲れたな

I'm sorta tired.

"Out of" = "outta".

/aut əv/ = /autə/「～がない、～の外で」

I'm outta money. 

「私はお金がない」

I'm outta money.

「私はお金がない」

"A lot of" = "alotta".

/ə lat əv/ = /əlatə/「たくさんの～」

They ate alotta cake.

「彼らは たくさんのケーキを食べた」

They ate alotta cake.

「彼らは たくさんのケーキを食べた」

"Lots of" = "lotsa".

/lats əv/ = /latsə/ 「たくさんの～」

He has lotsa money.

「彼には たくさんのお金がある」

He has lotsa money.

「彼には たくさんのお金がある」

Last one. "Cup of" = "cuppa".

最後です /kʌp əv/ = /kʌpə/ 「…杯の～」

Would you like a cuppa coffee?

「コーヒーを 1 杯いかがですか？」

Would you like a cuppa coffee? 

「コーヒーを一杯いかがですか？」

Did you guys hear that schwa, that /ə/ sound?

It's getting kinda hot.

「なんか暑くなってきたね」
