So, organizers are loathe to stop the Games.

そのため、主催者はオリンピックの中止を嫌っているのです。

But citizens see a public health danger if the event moves forward. 

しかしオリンピックが開催されれば、公衆衛生が危険にさらされると国民は考えます。

The majority do not want it to happen, especially because most of the country remains un-vaccinated.

The Australian Olympic softball team is the first international squad to arrive in Japan. 

オーストラリア代表のオリンピックソフトボールチームは、日本に到着した最初の外国チームです。

And they're facing unprecedented restrictions.

選手たちは、前代未聞の規制に直面しています。

No restaurants,  no sightseeing, and certainly no socializing.

レストランも、観光も、もちろん交流もできません。

I think that these athletes well know that they have to take great responsibility for their own behavior as well.

アスリートたちは、自らの行動に大きな責任感を持たなければならないことを、よく理解していると思います。

They're committed to do that, they're committed to not only look after themselves but do the right thing by the Japanese population as well and be ready for the Games.

責任感を持つことに尽力しています。そして、自分たちの健康に気をつけるだけでなく、日本の人たちから見ても正しい行動を行い、オリンピックに備えることに、全力を注いでいます。

Most people in Japan do not want the Olympics Games to happen.

日本人の大半は、オリンピックの開催に反対しています。

They're questioning the sense of 15,000 Olympic and Paralympic athletes from more than 200 countries traveling to Japan at a time when serious COVID-19 cases have recently hit new highs. 

最近、日本におけるコロナウイルスの重症者数が最多を更新した中で、200ヶ国以上から15,000人のオリンピック、パラリンピックアスリートがやってくることに疑問を抱いています。

And the nation's slow vaccination roll out isn't helping either. 

さらに、ワクチンの接種が遅れていることも問題の一部です。

"Japan has been working hard to roll vaccines out, but demand did not match with supply - And that was from the very start." 

「日本ではワクチン接種に力を入れていますが、需要と供給の釣り合いがとれていません―最初からそうでした。」

Japanese Olympic athletes are now being offered jabs. 

日本のオリンピックアスリートたちは、今、ワクチンを接種しています。

But only about two-and-a-half percent of Japan's population has been fully vaccinated so far.

Despite all this, the organizers are standing firm.

"Sports events are held all over the world, and as I've said, there are no examples of clusters of the infection spreading.

The arrival of Australia's softball team is a huge show of confidence in the beleaguered event. 

この窮地に陥ったイベントにおいて、オーストラリアのソフトボールチームが到着したことは、大きな自信を示しています。

All team members tested negative after landing.

到着後、全チームメンバーが、コロナウイルス陰性でした。

But the question remains: will this be enough to restore the confidence of the Japanese public in the Games?
