A new Reuters Ipsos poll on Friday shows a majority of Americans want President Donald Trump immediately removed from office after he encouraged a protest at the US Capitol this week that escalated into a deadly riot.

However, most of the 57% supporting Trump's removal were Democrats.

While Republicans were much more supportive of Trump finishing the last two weeks of his term, the nearly 70% of Americans surveyed said they disapproved of Trump's actions and the run upto Wednesday's assault.

共和党はトランプ氏が任期の最後の2週間を終えることをはるかに支持していたが、70％近くのアメリカ人がトランプ氏の行動や水曜日の暴行を不支持しているとの調査結果が出た。

At a rally earlier in the day, Trump had encouraged thousands of his followers to march to the capital and fight.

トランプ氏は先日の集会で、何千人もの支持者に首都に行進して戦うよう促していた。

The national opinion survey also showed that seven out of 10 of those who voted for Trump last November opposed the actions of his hardcore supporters who broke into the capital.

また、全国世論調査では、昨年11月にトランプ氏に投票した人の10人中7人が、首都に乱入したトランプ氏の筋金入りの支持者の行動に反対したという結果も出ています。

The poll comes as several lawmakers from both parties joined the call on Friday for his removal, including Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski and Ben Sasse.
