And in this video, I'm going to talk about my hometown now.

そして、この動画では、今、私の故郷の話をします。

A lot of my students asked me where you from.

多くの生徒にどこから来たのか聞かれました。

And of course I answer.

もちろん私も答えます。

I'm from Canada.

カナダから来ました。

And then they usually ask me, Which city are you from?

そして、普通は「どこの街から来たの？

In Canada, Vancouver or Toronto?

カナダではバンクーバーかトロントか？

Okay, so those air to cities most Koreans know.

韓国人が知っている都市への空路なのね

And I explained, While I'm not from Vancouver or Toronto and I tell them I'm from a city called Edmonton, okay?

バンクーバーやトロントの出身ではないと説明しながら、エドモントンという街から来たと伝えました。

And they're like, Where is Edmonton?

エドモントンはどこにあるの？

And I explained, while Edmonton is closer to Vancouver, it's in Western Canada.

そして説明しましたが、エドモントンはバンクーバーに近いですが、カナダ西部にあります。

But actually, Edmonton is not really close to Vancouver.

でも実はエドモントンはバンクーバーにはあまり近くないんですよね。

If you were driving from Vancouver to Edmonton, it would take about 16 hours to drive through the mountains.

バンクーバーからエドモントンまで車で行くとしたら、山の中を走るのに約16時間かかる。

Okay, so that's still pretty far.

まだまだ先の話だな

All right.

Now I tell them my hometown is Edmonton because, you know, I went to university in Edmonton and I spent about six or seven years in Edmonton.

今では故郷はエドモントンだと言っています。なぜなら、私はエドモントンで大学を卒業し、6、7年ほどエドモントンで過ごしたからです。

But Edmonton is not my riel hometown.

しかし、エドモントンは私のリエルの故郷ではありません。

My real hometown is Fort McMurray.

私の本当の故郷はフォートマクマレーです。

Where is for McMurray?

マクマレーのための場所はどこですか？

Well, for McMurray is north of Edmonton.

マクマレーは エドモントンの北にある

So if you're going from Edmonton and you're driving north, you have to drive another five hours to get to Fort McMurray.

エドモントンから北に向かう場合は、フォートマクマレーまでさらに5時間運転しなければなりません。

Okay, for McMurray is a smaller city.

マックマレーは小さい街だから

There's only about 60,000 people living there.

6万人くらいしか住んでいないんですよ。

And even in Canada, a lot of Canadians never heard of for McMurray because it's so far north and isolated.

カナダでも多くのカナダ人がマクマレーのことを知らないのは、北に位置していて孤立しているからです。

Okay, there's no other cities around it.

よし、その周りには他の都市はない。

And, as I said, the closest main cities Edmonton.

そして、私が言ったように、最も近い主要都市エドモントン。

But that's a five hour drive away now, for McMurray is in the bush.

だが マクマレーは 藪の中にいるので 今は車で５時間の距離だ

Okay, there's lots of trees there, lots and lots of trees and in the wintertime, because it's so far north, its very dark.

そこにはたくさんの木があって、たくさんの木があって、冬の間は、とても北にあるので、とても暗いんです。

In the winter time, when I went to school, it was dark, and when I came home, it was dark.

冬場、学校に行くと真っ暗で、家に帰ると真っ暗でした。

There's not much sunlight in the winter time, and also for McMurray is very, very cold.

冬場は日差しが少なく、マクマレーにとっても、とても、とても寒いです。

It is freezing, so I remember temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius minus 35 degrees Celsius and with the wind chill that could easily go to minus 40 degrees Celsius minus 45 degrees Celsius.

寒いので、マイナス30度マイナス35度、風の冷たさでマイナス40度マイナス45度になることもあったと記憶しています。

Very, very cold.

とても、とても寒いです。

Alright, for McMurray is not a very good place to visit.

さてさて、マクマレーは、訪問するには非常に良い場所ではありません。

Okay, there's no tourism there.

そうか、そこには観光はないのか

There's nothing to see and do their, as I say There's just trees.

Uh, but there is one thing for McMurray is famous for on that is oil.

でもマクマレーが有名なのは 石油のことだよ

There's a lot of oil there, and that's the main industry there.

That's why people live there.

They work for the oil industry and the oil there is different.

彼らは石油業界で働いていて、そこの石油は違う。

It's not the oil that you pump out of the ground.

Actually, the oil is in the sand and they call that tar sand.

実は砂の中に石油が入っていて、それをタールサンドと呼んでいます。

Okay, so they have to suck the oil out of the sand so that Zao forming Murray makes its money on.

彼らは砂から油を吸わなければならないので蔵王がマレーを形成してその上で金を稼ぐように

That's why people live there.

I wouldn't want to go back there and live.

I lived there during my childhood.

It's too cold for me.

I enjoy living in Edmonton, which is five hours south and a little bit better weather anyway.

南へ5時間、とにかく天気が少し良いエドモントンでの生活を楽しんでいます。

That's my hometown.

それが私の故郷です。
