question is how do I say the word theory which is an idea that can explain

something and theoretical and theoretically these words are very very

confusing because as many of you know when you add a prefix or suffix to a

word in English most of the time the word stress on the root word stays the

same but there are a few exceptions I have a class on tion endings where this

happens where you change the word stress so if you are interested in that I'll

put a link below but for today we're gonna think about theory theoretical and

theoretically and I'm gonna give you a new quick rule that when you see this ic

suffix added to a word you are going to change the word stress and that's why

these words I think are so difficult for people let's start with the word theory

I hear a few mistakes I think the biggest one is that you really need to

say the the vowel ear thear theory and make that e at the end of the word very

very long I'm actually going to add a line over top of that so that you know

to make this sound long that's a long vowel there because I use the symbol

below so I want to be consistent okay so now when we get to theoretical we're

gonna break the syllables up a little bit differently and we're gonna say thee

with the long e again you can see the line on there the schwa uh and then we're

gonna stress this syllable because it's right before that ic okay thee uh re

re remember louder longer and higher for a stressed syllable thee uh re

Dickel and you're just going to add like the man's name dick and then end with

ul theoretical theoretical same thing for theoretically

we're gonna change that word stress from theory where we're stressing syllable

one to right before that ic syllable so we're gonna say again thee uh re and

then instead of saying dickel we're gonna say dick Lee and we're going to

end with that Lee so let's try all of these together theory Theory Theory

theoretical theoretical theoretical theoretically th theoretically

theoretically sorry about that saying that word so many times actually

confused me so let me try those one more times as I messed up theory theoretical

theoretically give it a try I know people are going to notice the
