川上から　ももが　ながれて　きました。

Mm, this is delicious. I must get some of these to my husband.

Hey, yummy peaches come here. Bitter peaches go away.

あまそうな　ももじゃ どれ　どれ・・・・

After she said this, a giant peach came floating down the river.

こりゃぁ、うまい！

Oh my goodness, What an enormous peach!

じいさんにも　たんと くわせて　やりたいのう・・・・

the delighted old woman picked up the peach and carried it back to her house.

お〜い、うまい ももは、こっちゃ　こ〜い！

i'm finally home.

にがい　ももは、あっちゃ　いけ〜！

すると　こんどは　大きな　ももが

どんぶらこ　どんぶらこと ながれて　きました。

So the old man and the old woman decided to take care of the boy born from a peach.

and named him "Peach Boy"

じいさんに　たべさせたいと　おもって ひろって　きたんじゃ・・・・

When Peach Boy ate one bowl of rice he grew much bigger.

ほぉ・・・　そりゃあ、ありがたい！

He ate two bowls of rice and grew twice as big.

二人は　ももを わろうと　しました。すると・・・・・

and with three bowls of rice he grew three times as big.

なんと、中から　男の　赤んぼうが でて　きました。

Soon he was a great big boy.

こりゃあ、たまげた！

And Peach Boy grew to be... ...strong, and smart... ...with a very kind heart.

なんと　まぁ、 かわいらしい　赤子じゃのう！

The old man and the old woman loved Peach Boy dearly and took excellent care of him.

おじいさんと、おばあさんは、 ももから　生まれた　この　赤んぼうを

ももたろうと　名づけ、 二人で、そだてることに　しました。

Back in the fortress, the Demon General was having a feast.

The grateful demon gave all his treasure to Peach Boy.

つぎに　サルが　ひょいひょいと もんを　のりこえ

中から　かんぬきを　あけます。

...back to their home.

そして　イヌが　おもい　とびらを おし　ひらきました。

The old man and the old woman were delighted and welcomed Peach Boy home.

やい!!　 日本一の　ももたろうが、 わるい　おにらを

He shared the demon's treasure with all the villagers.

せいばいしに　まいった！　かくごしろ！

and bought wonderful treats for the dog, the monkey and the pheasant.

おどろいた　おにどもが、目を　さまし

From that day forward, the demons never bothered anyone again.

ももたろうたちに　おそいかかって　きます。

And they all lived happily ever after.

ももたろうは、むかって　くる　おにを つぎつぎに　たおしました。
