  • Greetings.

  • Here with something I did not plan on making a video on at all, but, uh, well, I just started playing player unknowns battleground here, which is something that just had my interest due to the type of game that it is.

  • I played a lot of stuff along this line in the past and thought I'd give it a shot even though it's early access typically avoid early access.

  • But I've been hearing some good things, and I was curious.

  • So yeah, as you can see here, you just sort of dive in to the game from a plane.

  • And the whole idea is that there's a bunch of people playing and it sort of a battle royal.

  • I mean, well, that's exactly what it is.

  • A battle royale.

  • So you have a bunch of players all diving in across this giant map, and the whole point is to survive to be the last one standing.

  • And, uh, I ended up being that on this it was like the fourth or fifth match I played.

  • So you're gonna be seeing me stumble around quite a bit, just like I was still figuring out the controls And you know what even the guns did and how to swap firing modes and stuff.

  • But I guess I just got lucky combined with I don't know, I was on edge, man.

  • I was on edge.

  • My heartbeat was so high.

  • I'm just like, Oh, my God, Like by the end of its really fun.

  • So, uh, at least it was fun while I was playing.

  • It might be boring to watch or something, but, um so guess we'll see.

  • I'm just kind of rambling here because I was not planning to share this.

  • Like I said, in fact, this is recorded an ultra wide 21 by nine.

  • Resolution 14.

  • 40 p.

  • Here.

  • I typically don't record in that, because I know most people don't have a monitor that size or, you know, aspect ratio or anything.

  • So I downscale my resolution when I'm normally recording.

  • But it was just recording for fun.

  • I typically just have it going regardless of what I'm playing with shadow play.

  • Anyway, sorry about the scrunched up screen if you're not on a ultra wide display.

  • Yeah, but anyway so right.

  • If you've played games like Daisy or any of the billions of other sort of survival.

  • You know, toss you out into the wilderness and see if you can survive and shoot each other kind of games.

  • Then here it is, and you go into houses and places buildings and wonder in between them and try not to get shot and die, and getting shot and dying is very easily.

  • In fact, the other matches that I played before this, I died in, like, a minute.

  • And then, for whatever reason, this one, I don't know, like I'm assuming there's going to be a fair amount of strategy as far as like, uh, you know, picking kind of where you want to land because you do get to jump out of the plane when you'd like.

  • But there's also an element of luck.

  • It almost feels like a just the luck of the draw kind of a gamble lottery thing, because if you wait too long or go too early, then you're going to be landing in a spot that just doesn't It doesn't work because much like in, say, the Hunger Games, you do have a situation which you'll see here in a moment where the map size starts shrinking the play area start shrinking gets smaller.

  • And that's actually what really drew me to this because, you know, I played a ton of daisy years ago.

  • The mod I played some of the retail sort of thing.

  • I haven't touched that in a couple of years now, though, because it just sort of bored me after a while and, you know, played rust and have played arc.

  • And I don't even know how many others man a lot of these things.

  • But the fact that it's sort of mixed that hunger games, he kind of thing where it's forcing players to come together and sort of fight.

  • That left others off the frying pan.

  • There as a as a weapon to It's pretty funny, but anyway, yeah, it does that.

  • And there's like drops and stuff because, of course, there's always drops in this game.

  • You can hear that plane going over right there, and you know it's a trap, so to speak, because you know, there's gonna be people just sort of camping around, sniping people off.

  • You know, go get those drops, but sometimes not as you'll see later on, when I do give one of the drops, it's Ah, it's a lot of looting and stuff at first, at least if you choose to play this way, I'm genuinely not sure of the all the ins and outs of this game yet, and being that it's early access, I don't want to do a review of it because I don't think that that's quite fair.

  • Even though it seems pretty feature complete, I think even the developers said it's pretty well, you know what they wanted to be.

  • But just it needs more polished and whatnot, and I would agree there's some performance issues have had the server crash, you know, like I've only played this for like, an hour and the service already crashed once.

  • So, like, well, that's good, but ah, yeah, So it was just a lot of looting here, at least the way that I was playing, because I don't have any gear on my dude like you can outfit your guy and the main menu with some stuff that you unlock, I guess through gameplay, I haven't actually I locked any of it yet.

  • I started the game office, a naked guy, Um, and then I figured out that you could give him a few clothes going in.

  • So that's what I did.

  • Hear you got basic closed, but things like armor and guns and gun upgrades and all these other things that you're seeing here.

  • Yeah, You just got to go and find them and hope they spawn in the world somewhere.

  • Which again is very Daisy Ishan.

  • I assume that this is very much inspired by that again, this is not a review.

  • I genuinely don't even know much about this.

  • Sorry, This is not my normal fare.

  • I just got excited because this, this is this is neat.

  • I really like this kind of experience in a game, you know, the the world itself is premade, But all of these spawns and whatnot are, I guess, random.

  • I haven't played enough to know if, like, say, this building that I'm in right here always has these items in it or if it's just completely randomized, I would assume it's random because otherwise you do.

  • That just would make sense.

  • I'm just gonna say it's random, and I like that.

  • And I like the way this looks too.

  • I think this is the UN really engine and Ah, yeah, it's PC only right now, but it's been announced to becoming two consuls.

  • I think x box one x box X x Triple X one is gonna be the 1st 1 that comes to you and I soon peace for later but PC version here and, you know, playing PC anyway, so that's fine.

  • And it is third person that I'm playing through here.

  • Although it didn't take me long to discover there was the first person bowed going okay, first person, that would be pretty handy for certain situations.

  • But it does seem like right now, since people can switch between third and first person on the fly, that it makes sense to stick the third person just because you have higher field of you and you can see around corners and stuff like that.

  • Damn!

  • And you know, if other people have that as an option, I want that option as well.

  • So, yeah, at this point, you see that I'm not running into anyone, Although I started hearing these explosions off in the distance, this is my first encounter of seeing that I don't I'm not even sure what that's called, but there's like a red spot that pops up on the map, and it's just like E.

  • I guess just crap goes down again.

  • I'm assuming kind of hunger games, the stuff going on, where it's just like a certain sections of the map is just, you know, a man If you're still stuck there.

  • Well, screw you.

  • The whole point is to whittle down the player count.

  • Um, and you know that this is just a map that's working against you in that respect.

  • Not only is the play area shrinking constantly, but you can see there's only 45 people alive at this point.

  • I think there were 81 when it started, So you have.

  • People are dying all the time, but it's big enough map, and I guess I just sort of parachuted into the right spot that I have not run into anyone yet.

  • But they're out there.

  • They're out there and they're shooting each other and dying and stuff.

  • But it does take a while for me to run into anyone, and you could see that briefly on the map there.

  • Not just that red spot.

  • But there's also a circular outline of the current play area.

  • So initially the entire map is the play area, and then it just keeps shrinking down as the map goes on.

  • And I I was just curious what happens when the map gets small enough like that doesn't just keep going and going and going until literally two people are facing each other and it turns out that is what happens.

  • Another drop plane going across right here.

  • And yet this point, I don't really know what I'm doing.

  • I just happen to be luckily in that zone already that the map is shrinking down, too.

  • So I didn't actually have to make a run for it when I have played my very first map.

  • I happened to wait a while, Jim, about the plane, and and the wall just killed me because you'll see this like big plasma e blue electrical wall just shrinking and shrinking in.

  • And if that thing goes past you where you are and you can't outrun it, too bad there are vehicles And what not in the game.

  • Cars and dune buggies and trucks are the ones that I've run across so far.

  • I don't know what else is in there.

  • There's a drop right.

  • There are just getting lucky.

  • It was not plenty to go over the drop.

  • I learned my lesson in games like Rust and Daisy.

  • Don't go for the drops, man.

  • Actually, I don't remember of Daisy.

  • Head drops now.

  • No Rust did an arc, and that was always a disaster going for them.

  • So But it was here, and I hadn't heard any gunfire.

  • So I'm like, a whatever I get shot again.

  • Shot to learning experience for yes.

  • Had some pretty freaking cool loot in here.

  • Ah, shotgun upgrade for sure.

  • The last match that I played, I had a over under shotgun and, you know, boom, boom.

  • And it's like, Oh, cool, I killed a guy.

  • But there was another dude right around the corner, and he just blew me away.

  • The new Z.

  • So yeah, reload times and all that kind of stuff are something you really got to consider if you get into firefight.

  • But at this point, I'm just, like, paranoid because these open fields band and I'm thinking, Oh, there's a drop here.

  • Somebody's probably hanging around.

  • I'm seeing people dying here.

  • Maybe some very faint something in the distance.

  • Uh, and in fact, the sound seems to be a pretty key part of this, which I would expect, but I'm glad that it is.

  • It seems to be nice.

  • And positional was playing with a headset and everything sounded cool.

  • You know, when I was in a building, not in this particular match but the ones before that I played.

  • It was like you could hear dudes, you know, footsteps above you.

  • Ah, people on grass outside.

  • Even things like when you pick up a weapon, it doesn't have any ammo in it.

  • And so you gotta pick it up, get the ammo loaded, and you can hear people doing that.

  • And it's like, Oh, crap.

  • You know, it was pretty harrowing.

  • I was in 11 spot.

  • It was just a naked guy and had a measly little revolver.

  • I'm like, Okay, And I heard somebody get a shotgun and just you cooked clunk!

  • I'm like, Oh, crap.

  • And you know, it's just I love this kind of moments and games like this where it's just like you don't know if they're aware of you, but you're aware of them.

  • And you're scared because you could not do much about it, you know, you might just have a crowbar.

  • You might just have a pistol, you know, six shooter.

  • Um, you might just have a frying pan like it's our, you know, nothing like I've one of the maps that I jumped into.

  • It was just ah, or one of the rounds.

  • There's only one map right now, believe being one of those matches.

  • And I died as soon as I spawned because there was somebody there, and I guess they already had a gun or they got one really quick.

  • I mean, it was it within, like, 20 seconds of, ah of, you know, parachuting in, and somebody has just booms, not my head off.

  • So, uh, you never know.

  • But at this point, I'm getting lucky.

  • And I think coming up pretty soon is my first encounter with someone because I remember my heart just exploded out of my chest here in a moment because, um, well, you'll see.

  • But yeah, I'm just I get into that sort of, ah hunter hunted mode.

  • When I play these things, I'm just antsy and see and see, waiting for some head to pop up something that come up through the grass.

  • And I actually do have the foliage and some of the things turned down a little bit here because they looked a little blurry and, I don't know, it was hard to see certain things.

  • So I put I think the foliage on medium draw distances on ultra.

  • Most of the things we're on track, but oh, yeah, and some of the effects quality the bloom was driving me crazy was too much blue.

  • Yeah, I think.

  • Okay, maybe it's a little bit after this.

  • So I think in this area, Yeah, I'm just I'm just still looting because I haven't seen anyone, so, you know, it's like a upgrades, but there are, like, faint gunshots in the distance.

  • Yeah, like that.

  • So that's always just a little nerve racking.

  • But you can tell that it's far away enough that it's not an immediate threat, Necessarily.

  • If you start hearing footsteps outside, that's an immediate threat, of course.

  • But as it is here, yeah, just, you know, just hanging around Lewton stuff.

  • And I like the fact that the doors opening closed next, sort of Ah, well, you you have to guess whether or not someone's been there.

  • It's like if you open the door.

  • It doesn't close behind you.

  • So if you go and you're at an area and you see a door, this is open your super suspicious.

  • But then you also get paranoid of a door is closed because what if they just were in there and, like, I thought I saw somebody there.

  • But the door is closed, you know, toss a grenade through a window or something.

  • Maybe, But if you don't have that than like, oh, crap, you just kind of risk it.

  • And one thing I like about this the whole lot is the fact that risking it makes a lot of sense because the matches are cut short.

  • And unlike something like Daisy, I mean, I would play some of those matches for 45 hours, depending on the server.

  • And that's a lot of fun, you know.

  • But at the same time, this one, even though it's going on longer right now, it does force the players to get closer and closer together because, yeah, I'm just now sort of realizing that this may not be the best introductory video to how the game works.

  • It might look super freakin boring.

  • Ah, and you know what it kind of is at this point, because it's just sort of like counters, Lewton stuff, just finding things.

  • Nobody's around.

  • But I'm heading towards that military base because I can see that the outline on the map is slowly shrinking to that.

  • So I'm assuming that somewhere in the military base is going to be the final sort of showdown area.

  • The final battle ground, so to speak.

  • It turns out my hunch was right, but, uh okay, so this I think coming up is where that I was thinking that my first sort of encounter, Waas And honestly, I think it's this super insanely cautious approach that I ended up winning this match because, like, you know, it's like 80% of it is just me sneaking around because I don't I don't know the game very well yet I don't even know what the telltale signs are like.

  • What does somebody look like on the distance necessarily?

  • I don't know.

  • Cem booms in the distance there, and you really like the way this looks, too.

  • It has that sort of daisy itch feel, but it seems like its own identity as well.

  • Just a little bit.

  • It's cool, you know, Not quite post apocalyptic, but, you know, kind of, and there's no zombies.

  • Honestly, I don't think a game like this needs zombies.

  • I would welcome a zombie option.

  • And in fact, I think I read that they're doing that, but does it need it?

  • No.

  • Now it doesn't need it.

  • Okay.

  • All right.

  • So here, just in a couple seconds, it looks like is where I'm going to.

  • I think he shot at by a sniper.

  • Yep, s so that was kind of hard to tell how close they were.

  • But I'm assuming pretty close.

  • So at this point, my heart is absolutely bracing.

  • I don't know what's going on.

  • It's like a girl.

  • Okay.

  • You know, I feel like I feel invested in it now because I've played it for, like, 17 minutes here in this in this match.

  • Their person.

  • Where are they?

  • Where were they?

  • They could be It felt close, but I'm not sure I've got so much cool Luke.

  • Now, you don't want to lose it, because, I mean, you know, sure, I've got all these things, but it doesn't matter, man.

  • If somebody gets a bead on you, they could get a headshot, take you out really quickly, even with a helmet, if they have the right weapon and or even just, you know, just loading it through with bullets.

  • Like I've been killed by a few different weapons.

  • Now that I wasn't sure they were gonna do so much damage.

  • But they do.

  • Yeah.

  • At this point, I'm feeling like, all right, whatever.

  • I don't hear any more shots.

  • I'm assuming somebody was just taking a pot shot at me from over in a military base or something.

  • Because, yeah, who knows?

  • There's Gilly suits and stuff that could be a dude hidden in the grass.

  • I would never be able to see him.

  • You know, I'm playing this on a 34 inch screen so I can see distant objects pretty well, but not and like, things still blend in.

  • And that's why I would assume very much on purpose.

  • You know, this camouflage and all those kind of things for just sort of making it so that you can be all hidden and covered grass and stuff.

  • At this point, I'm just trying to figure out what's the best way to get in there without taking any kind of direct approach because I'm assuming there are gonna be people hanging around in windows or doors or these buildings because this place is gonna be full of it.

  • And I also tend to run at full speed when those planes go over, because they're so loud in game that they drown out footsteps.

  • I love that kind of stuff, man.

  • It's like, you know, the whole Hollywood cliche of the sniper taken out someone as the church bell strikes.

  • You know, it's it's that sort of thing where you you can coordinate your attack with the other sounds in the world.

  • Nice, nice gun upgrade here, even though I haven't even got a chance to use that awesome shotgun that I picked up.

  • I do want this instead of the Uzi because it is.

  • Ah, well, I mean, it's just a good gun.

  • It's fully automatic, even though at this point I didn't realize that you could switch fire modes.

  • I should have realized that.

  • But I just sort of kept it in single here for a bit.

  • And so much of a nube I am, or was I still am.

  • Whatever, man.

  • So, yeah, I'm not sure what I'm doing here.

  • Just taking a just just run around in circles.

  • Feeling paranoid, I've noticed that sometimes shooting out of those bars that have the the windows with the bars on them, sometimes you just end up shooting the bar instead of the window.

  • The collision could be a little weird, I don't know, like the hit boxes.

  • But so far I've been pretty impressed with how that works.

  • Like I was, you know, shooting around a tree as a right handed dude.

  • And, you know, my left side was covered up by a tree and that it worked, you know, I didn't, like, accidentally shoot the tree, But there was one point where I was throwing a grenade, and he totally just Corinne right off the side of like, a roof tile, like one of those little overhanging bits, and ricocheted right back at me.

  • So that was fun.

  • I think it's in here that I start to hear, um, an engine noise, and that's always haunting.

  • If you're a person on foot, at least I'm in the building, not out in the open.

  • I don't want to get run over, but, you know, also don't just want, like somebody rolling up really quick and like a dune buggy and just blow me away with whatever cool weapons they got.

  • So at this point, I'm thinking it kind of sounded like they stopped outside.

  • So I'm just gonna hang out in here, try to quickly equip my new gun here with some cool mods, and, you know, I've got a pretty full backpack.

  • I got a nice backpack, too.

  • I like the fact that you can just pick, pick up B uh, better backpacks on the fly and just swap him out really easily.

  • You don't have to, like, you know, open both of them and then, you know, move things from one to the other Note was just like, Okay, stuff is in the other backpack now, which makes sense, because this is not necessarily a survival steam so much as it seems to be about that, you know, making people fight, even though up until this point, I haven't fired a shot.

  • But that'll change here in a moment, I swear.

  • Here's another car coming out now.

  • This was scary.

  • I could hear them over there.

  • They were getting out.

  • And I know that they have to be getting out because the play area is shrinking significantly right now.

  • In fact, if you see it on my mini mapping about him right there, I'm right up against that.

  • That curved white line that's the That's the safe area.

  • I have to be within that or else the edge of the map is going to start, you know, going crazy and kill me.

  • So I don't want that.

  • That would suck to get like this far into it.

  • Only 15 people left, and then just you have the map kill you.

  • But I'm sure it's easy to do, especially if you're in some of these buildings.

  • They have really winding pathways and stares and corners and all these little hidden areas.

  • I'm surprised how much it like there's above and underground things like there's multi story buildings that are surprisingly complex inside and underground passageways.

  • I found an entire like sewer system and whatnot.

  • This little spot in here is a kind of weird and buggy.

  • I had some problems navigating around.

  • I saw a dude up there.

  • There's a dude decided to shoot him.

  • He's too far, but he's hanging around up from the top of that rocket there.

  • So I see you.

  • I see you, sir.

  • And the others?

  • I can hear vehicles.

  • At this point, I'm like, Holy crap.

  • What is that shadow?

  • Uh, it's nothing.

  • It's just a shadow, but yeah.

  • Oh, yeah, There's Ah, it was a truck over there or something.

  • Some kind of SUV Land Rover looking thing.

  • And I'm getting stuck on the geometry, which is always completely scary.

  • Theo Detection on geometry is the creepiest thing in these games.

  • That's where it's like, Oh, no, what if I get stuck on something and at this point, I'm like, what's going on with my gun?

  • Because I noticed it was great out.

  • And also, I don't know how to switch the firing mode.

  • So I just checked the firing mode really quick, and I still can't bring out my guns.

  • I'm kind of freaking out here, Michael.

  • Crap.

  • What's going on was going.

  • I was going.

  • I did not even notice that thing parachuting down in the background when I was playing this.

  • There we go.

  • I got my gun out and switched over to auto firing, and he could kind of see the edge of the map closing in.

  • There's just sort of a blue plasma.

  • Look.

  • I think I end up killing three people here pretty soon because we're getting towards the end of matches only 14 people alive in a pretty small area and, yeah, his indoor spots.

  • And I was impressed with him.

  • There's enough of, ah cluttering kind of things going on, but also just winding.

  • Passage is full of stuff, toe.

  • Sometimes it's not very easy to see the stuff to loot, but, you know, it's whatever.

  • I don't need them to glow super, super bright.

  • They have kind of a yellow outline when you get close to him like that anyway, so oh, man, so see a dune buggy over there with a dead body beside it.

  • I'm like, Oh, crap, Who killed him?

  • What's going on?

  • And they try to kill me to, uh so, yeah, I decided not even the mess with the cargo, because I'm like, You know what?

  • I'm loaded up right now, and I don't wanna be risking looking inside of this package.

  • While there's obviously people really close by, there's 12 of us in a very small area, pretty much just this one yard we're looking at.

  • So I am.

  • I'm taking a huge, stupid risk running across this yard.

  • E if anybody were even slightly looking this way, they could have killed me.

  • But I heard gunshots in the other direction.

  • And so it sounded like they were, uh, kind of distant ish.

  • There's somebody, though.

  • Oh, yeah, Catch it.

  • First kill.

  • That's exciting.

  • So that is that's one person down and you can loot them and whatnot.

  • But again, at this point in the match, I'm just like I don't care.

  • I just want to survive.

  • I don't see how far I can get.

  • I really didn't think that I would make it to first, but ah, yeah, 10 people left, including me, who?

  • And somebody getting off shots.

  • Yeah, they were definitely shooting at me.

  • So I'm just kind of trying to take a weird, winding path here and keep walls to my side.

  • You wanna know they're here?

  • This is so nerve wracking.

  • When I was playing it, Holy crap.

  • My heart was pounding out of my chest just like I'm going to die.

  • I know I'm going to die.

  • I decided to go over here because I couldn't figure out where that dude went.

  • So I'm just like I I don't think he went this way because this is actually further from where I'm supposed to be.

  • But I was just like, Nope, I got to go back.

  • I got to get to I got to stay in the middle because you can see the, uh the sparkly map edges closing in constantly.

  • That closing in threat.

  • No nerve racking.

  • I kind of love that.

  • That will be intrigued to see other gaming modes.

  • But this one in particular, just the plain battle royal.

  • Oh, yeah.

  • Okay, so I got shot pretty hard there.

  • I don't know how I didn't I I don't know how at all.

  • So I decided to just go in here and just use a med kit, which takes a while.

  • And you can't do crap while this is going on.

  • So just please, please, please, please, please, please, please don't come in here.

  • Please don't come in here.

  • Okay?

  • So I'm I'm totally, totally healed up now.

  • Weapon at the ready.

  • I am ready to kill this guy.

  • I don't know where I am because I've never been in this building before.

  • I'm like, Oh, what the heck, Where's the opening?

  • I don't get out of here.

  • I hope he's not behind me.

  • I just don't know what's going on.

  • There's obviously six people, five others people dying over there, here, the kills happening.

  • And that person just died, Whoever that was food, trying to make my way over to the spot that I need to be.

  • And I don't know if this building has an opening, but I'm taking a chance on this staircase and yeah, it turns out there's like, no way to get out of here and you can't, like, break windows involved through them.

  • Yet they haven't had a vaulting over alleges yet a sw, far as I know something like, Oh, crap.

  • Oh, crap.

  • The map is gonna close in on me when I'm inside.

  • So I can't have that.

  • Uh, yeah, so I just I just hooked it out of there.

  • I'm like, Well, that was a stupid idea again.

  • Total just like mist ake me winning this map.

  • I don't know what I don't like, but it's working.

  • So whatever, it's only four other people at this point, and they've got to be close, real close look how tiny that little circle is in the mini map.

  • They're all in the air.

  • We're all in that circle.

  • Yep.

  • Gun fire is really close.

  • I'm assuming maybe they're gonna come for me over here.

  • I'm not entirely sure I don't know what's going on, but if they do come around, okay, they're really close.

  • So that's two guns.

  • Hopefully one of will kill the other.

  • And then I could take off.

  • Yep.

  • Just picked off their survivor.

  • So it's me.

  • One guy left and he cannot various could not be far at all.

  • And he was not far.

  • Oh, so close.

  • So close.

  • I don't want to do I'm going the wrong way.

  • I'm just like Holy crap.

  • Wait a second.

  • I can't be in here.

  • The map is closing in around or you're gonna You gotta risk it.

  • Oh, he's behind that tree.

  • I've got a field to run across, so I just go for it.

  • I'm just like, screw it.

  • I don't know.

  • I don't know.

  • Man number two is not bad.

  • We'll just see what happens.

  • Ah, the walls are closing in and it is not good.

  • He's over there.

  • I know he's over there.

  • He's just And then I hear it a grenade.

  • Thankfully, though he overshot it.

  • So I throw my own grenade.

  • But I'm throwing a smoke grenade, hoping that that obscures his vision.

  • And thankfully, I smoked him right where he would be able to see me.

  • And I guess I guess it was enough because he wasn't shooting.

  • Wasn't doing anything.

  • Oh, yeah.

  • I ah, Winner, Winner.

  • Chicken dinner number one three kills only.

  • So I've got 900 points for that.

  • And that is a thing you can spend, I guess.

  • On some other stuff.

  • I don't know.

  • I haven't actually spent that yet.

  • I just made this video really quick because I was excited.

  • I'm like, this is a neat game.

  • I think it's neat.

  • It's $29 early access.

  • I'm not I don't know if it's worth that, necessarily, because it pretty much is just this, but, um, yeah, I don't know.
