  • so we have a bit of a problem.

  • I was using my MacBook Pro last night, like always, and I was going to use it again this morning for various reasons and to my surprise, the battery.

  • Is it like, I don't know, 15% although it was plugged in all night, Well, then I also noticed that the little light that's supposed to come on on this the little mag safe part right there wasn't on especially orange.

  • When it's charging green when it's chart, when it's already charged or something like that, There were no lights on at all, so I did a little bit more investigating to see what the main problem was and go figure.

  • My charger is completely severed from this to this, so take a look here.

  • As you can see, the wires are completely split, and that is all the way around the cable, so you'll see the white part inside.

  • That's kind of keeping this thing together.

  • That's one wire.

  • The wires that come along the outside or another y I'm guessing ones of power ones, the ground or something of that nature.

  • So today we're gonna go down to the garage and fix it.

  • I first have to see if I have the available tools, the main one being a soldering iron.

  • I know I've had one at one point, but not sure where it is at this Dayton time.

  • So let's go find out.

  • You know, as I could gather all of the tools know where to get this done, I realized I forgot to mention Why don't I just buy a brand new charger?

  • Well, there's many reasons for that.

  • One is when something's broke.

  • I'd like to fix it instead of throw it away and get a new one.

  • After all, this laptop is six years old and suddenly running that strong because I continually fix it and make it better one step at a time, but also because I went on the Apple Web site, went on Amazon and went anywhere that sells a mag safe one Apple brand charger.

  • I don't really want to get an off brand, and they're about $80.

  • Sure, I could go buy a new one right now, but if I have one right here that just, you know, the wires need to be reconnected.

  • Imagine, try mannitol trying to fix it.

  • If I mess it up, then I mess it up and I have to buy a new one.

  • But at least I can say I tried.

  • And if I succeed, I saved myself 80 bucks.

  • And I'm pretty sure I have all the tools.

  • I just need to find that pesky soldering.

  • I still can't find it.

  • All right, so I think I'm ready to go.

  • Pliers, wire strippers, good wire cutters, small screwdriver, slightly bigger screwdriver, razor blade and sold Earless connectors.

  • I can explain.

  • All right, So here's the deal.

  • I went to go find my sword or gun.

  • Obviously couldn't find it.

  • So then what's the next best thing I could use electrical tape to put together.

  • Or from the times I used Thio input or install my friend stereos.

  • My friends subwoofers.

  • A lot of times I would use wire connectors.

  • That's what these are.

  • And it just so happens to say, sought Earless connectors because, well, you don't need a sort of gun in order to apply these.

  • Obviously, this is just essentially a way to get out of using a sauterne on.

  • Most of these are our connectors in the sense of you put the wire and here and then it connects to the metal inside.

  • And then you apply this side and connect it to a terminal.

  • However, I need something a little bit more like this.

  • This is a connector in the sense that you put both wires in one side and they connect well.

  • I think there's metal inside there as well.

  • But basic idea is that the wires are connected to one another, touching one another and touching the metal in there.

  • And I get interrupted by a phone call.

  • But anyways, that's the connector I need.

  • All right, so let's get on with it.

  • First, I thought, Oh, well, I guess I ought to get down to, like, normal human height so I could fit the actual workbench in my face and frame.

  • This is really uncomfortable, but, uh, first, I don't need this part because this works perfectly fine.

  • It's just an extension of the actual charger.

  • It's this part.

  • Now we're left with the broken piece and this adapter right here, which now second part we need to take apart.

  • Hello?

  • Hello?

  • Can you hear me?

  • Can you see me?

  • Good.

  • All right.

  • Now that we're actually in the Rio process.

  • This is a really step number one, and that is used the pliers to pride this apart from this from this side and this side.

  • So let me get to it, All right?

  • I'm actually going to use the vise grip in just vice group.

  • This part in that was actually a good thing that's supposed to happen.

  • And I'm not just saying that, See, Told you, Like I mentioned, this is already broken.

  • So it doesn't really matter to me if I dented up or if I break it a little bit more than it already is.

  • Because if it doesn't work, then it's like, essentially completely useless.

  • So if this isn't able to go back in, what do I care?

  • I just wanted to be able to charge my laptop because right now is a giant paperweight.

  • Right now I want to step number two.

  • Now that I have this side pride pried apart properly, I need to make sure it goes all the way around.

  • And this is a little bit different because this, they say, use a heat gun by They're just mean, like, online tutorials and stuff, but, uh, I am almost there.

  • Someone to throw the screwdriver and here in the little groove to see if I can get it apart, leverage the belly, like pulling it hard, but not pulling it hard because I don't want it to break.

  • I'm not trying to leverage it out.

  • I'm trying to, like, pull it like that instead of like that, but I don't know.

  • I don't know what to do, huh?

  • Actually knew it.

  • I think I just need access.

  • Maybe a little bit more difficult.

  • I may end up taking this whole thing off anyway, but since I could get this far out and kind of keep it clamped out like that, I just need access to this black hold on.

  • If you could see that to this black in this white wire Because, like I mentioned before their two wires in here, the outside goes the black, the inside goes to the white.

  • So that's all I need.

  • And what I say next, you're going to be a little bit confused by I need to cut this off.

  • All right, so I'm using my wire cutters to cut.

  • It is closest possible too.

  • The whites boom and then cut this side as close as possible.

  • I actually really doesn't matter Boom, Because I won't end up cutting a lot of this off anyway, because it's ah, it's not good wire at that point.

  • But here it looks pretty good.

  • And I just have to strip the wire.

  • But now what I must do is get the wire out of this because this needs to be re used.

  • Or at least I'd like for it to be.

  • And that is where the pliers come in again.

  • I hope.

  • I hope I could just lamp onto this.

  • Maybe I should've left a little bit more wire on there in try to rip it out.

  • Maybe I should have thought this through before I cut it.

  • Oh, well, there goes the white one.

  • Done deal, and then the black one, not so sure that's gonna be a Ziggy, actually, if it's this hard to get this out, there's no way I'm going to be able to get a wire back in this little tiny hole.

  • So maybe I just need to drill it.

  • Then I just need Thio take a drill bit drill down through this into here.

  • I'd still like to get the wire out, though.

  • Yep.

  • That's exactly what I'm gonna d'oh.

  • Want to take this drill bit?

  • We'll take out that drill bit first.

  • There, this drill bits in the drill through this in the vice.

  • Not too hard.

  • So it doesn't break all the way and get drilling.

  • Yeah, good to go.

  • All right, So we're now that I got that big chunk out of the middle of this.

  • I also had to get this class or rubber piece out of the middle.

  • And you guys saw me drill that out a little bit, and then I have to put this wire all the way through in Voila.

  • So now I have this piece around our area around this wire.

  • Now I have to strip this wire and the wires in the adapter.

  • And there's two wires in here, two wires in here, and they had to be connected.

  • All right, so we have wire strippers.

  • We had the wires that need to be stripped, so let's get to work.

  • All right, so now that these wires were stripped, the white goes to the white, the black goes to the black and well, at that point, I should be good to go.

  • Just maybe a little bit electric electrical tape, heat streak like I mentioned.

  • And then we're going to put this bad boy back together.

  • All right, That was a bit of a hassle, and it's pretty j rigged up, but, uh, we're going to see if this works.

  • I'm just gonna put it back together at this point and, uh, cross my fingers and pray to God that it, uh, that it charged my laptop.

  • Otherwise this was a big waste of time.

  • And I have to spend any dollars anyway.

  • All right, now we're here.

  • We have my laptop.

  • We're going to test if this charger right here actually works.

  • And if you're wondering, I'm still out in the garage testing this instead of up in my office because if a fire happens, let's just say I'd rather it happened next to this nice fire extinguisher here rather than up in my office.

  • I want to do it on this table to give you guys a little bit better angle to see if this lights reinserted plugged in and the moment of truth.

  • It works.

  • Yes.

  • Now I have a working lattes up again I still have to be wary of this.

  • It's okay.

  • It's orange, green, orange.

  • That's good.

  • If case you can't see it too well, it's right here and it works.

  • Oh, my gosh, that's a savings of $80.

  • Feels good when you work on something and actually comes to fruition like I didn't know if this is gonna work in the end, I may have just been wasting all this time and had to end up spending that $80 anyway, but it ended up working.

  • And if you know me at all, I love saving money.

  • So that's just a plus.

  • Now I'm back to having a working laptop in any work that I needed to do on my laptop.

  • Incentive on my PC behind me can actually get done, but of the sick of making this sound very philosophical or whatever word works properly in that sentence if something's broke, whether it's a relationship, whether it's a computer charger or whether it's something else and there's a potential fixing it, try to fix it.

  • I mean, I try to take that moral into all aspects of life.

  • Computer Charger stops working or if my hard disk drive on my laptop is it's efficient enough.

  • I've replaced it with an SS.

  • Dear, make sure that my computer charger works again.

  • I mean, all you can do is try.

  • If it didn't work, then I had to buy something.

  • But I knew in the back of my head that I tried to fix it, and that could be taken over to something like a job.

  • You hate your job.

  • Forget why you hate it.

  • If you're in a relationship that isn't working properly, figure out why and then try to fix it.

  • If it doesn't fix, that's okay.

  • But at least you can go to bed at night knowing that you tried to fix your computer or that you tried to fix your relationship where you tried to fix your job.

  • I think that needs to be taught to a lot of people because they just tend to throw things away when they quit working and buy something or go get something new.

  • So that's a moral, philosophical talk for today.

  • If it's broke, at least try to fix it, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  • You know how the saying goes.

  • But anyways, I hope I made this entertaining for you guys.

  • I hope you learned something, especially for those of you who have a MacBook pro and your charger quits working.

  • Try to figure out why it quits working.

  • I'm sure you could fix it on your own instead of spending $80 on a new one.

  • But that's it for me.

  • I hope you guys enjoyed the video.

  • You did?

  • Be sure to like it if you want to see more content like this.

  • Although this was kind of kind of out there, I don't really do like how to type videos in this manner, But check out much handle to see if you like what you see and subscribe if you d'oh till next of guys have a good one piece.

so we have a bit of a problem.
