  • No, the interest seemed appropriate because we're looking at a brewer that really is from the sixties, as is that great film.

  • This is Coffee, a promotional film shot in 1961.

  • This, however, hails from a slightly slightly later year.

  • This is the Jubilee edition of the techno form 68.

  • Techno form started.

  • Actually, I think they're founded.

  • Back in 1964 the first piece of coffee equipment was 1965 which was a grinder.

  • And then, in 1968 they produced this or the original version of this.

  • So 50 years later they decided to do a limited edition run to reissue this to make it available.

  • If you want a little piece of history now, I'll get my biases out.

  • The way to start with techno form built a different broad that thinks the K B T 741 74 I think reversed in 1974.

  • The over today first released it.

  • That's a another piece of timeless design going right there.

  • I had one of those that was my first home brewing set up, and I loved it and it did a little bit more than this did.

  • But techno forms have been a part of how I made coffee at home for a long time.

  • You know, I think I've had one nearly 10 years.

  • That's not what I have at home right now, but I've had them over.

  • The years of work at home have a fondness for them, and in today's modern world, there's a lot to do with filled Bruce These days.

  • There's lots more controls.

  • There's lot more granularity that isn't really what techno form are about or were ever about.

  • You know, the K B T I like because there's a couple nice things.

  • There's an open close valve on the brew basket on brew Basket is sort of mounted, and you could just slide the carafe out from underneath.

  • That's a different brother.

  • That's not what we're talking about today.

  • Other bias in this one.

  • I didn't buy this.

  • I was sent this to review to have a little look at Aunt.

  • To be honest, I was pretty excited to do so.

  • It's it's kind of an interesting piece of history, So I was just starting to edit this, and I found out that Mark, a master are actually giving this unit to me to give away to you.

  • So here it is.

  • It is pretty much as it waas in in 1968 and that's kind of cool to me.

  • It's an interesting piece of history.

  • It's kind of interesting to look back at how people might have made coffee 50 years ago.

  • What's changed?

  • What really hasn't changed?

  • And I think from the get go, Who is this fall?

  • Well, the design, the technology really speaks to someone who wants, like, a little piece of history for whom the design is extremely desirable.

  • If this design speaks to you and I could get how it would and I could get how I wouldn't.

  • But I kind of love it.

  • If it does, we do.

  • You having this at home having something like this?

  • I totally understand.

  • If you want something with all the bells, whistles, digital controls, Florrick controls temperature controls, all that kind of stuff.

  • No, no, this is not This is not for you, you know.

  • In fact, this isn't really a brewer designed for you to mess with too much.

  • They want you to just put coffee in put water in.

  • It automatically detects that this water is little float in the chamber on That starts the brewing process on this little hot plate here to keep the coffee warm after you brewed it.

  • That's kind of it.

  • There's a there's a there's a button over here to say, Am I brewing 1/2 badge or a full batch?

  • Which I think change is the The unit heats water to make sure it's nice and consistent through the brew.

  • But beyond that, it's very simple.

  • If you want a simple brewer than this is kind of for, You know, techno forms were early industry darlings because They were always pretty good at temperature.

  • The floor.

  • It was always pretty good, and the temperature was always pretty good.

  • It wasn't super super super controlled, but it was always in that good bring range of kind of 92 to 96 degrees Celsius.

  • And people like them and people like the coffee that they made.

  • And yeah, over the years, I've messed with them to try and hack the shower heads a little bit.

  • And, you know, the way I brew with the one with the stop valve is different to how I'm up for it with this one.

  • And yet I might want to stir the slurry right at the start to make sure that they know that the first water hitting coffee is hitting all the coffee at the same time.

  • So I'll let the water bloom a little bit and give it a little stir, and I might give it a tiny star at the end.

  • But this isn't built so that you have to do that.

  • I don't think techno form wants you to do that.

  • They want you to just put coffee in water in If the coffee is great, the water is good.

  • You're gonna have a good time.

  • Assumes you're grand setting is right.

  • But that's that's the kind of ethos behind this.

  • In a modern brewer, you get a lot more, you know, like you get on.

  • So the modern technique forms some indication of how much water you're putting into your chamber up here, right?

  • There's usually markings on the side to say this is 1/2 later.

  • This is a full liter or the super bizarre use of cups which don't really relate to anything but are typically about 120 mils.

  • I don't know anyone who's drinking 120 mil cup of coffee.

  • It does have a hot plate.

  • And I don't really love having a hot plate.

  • It's historically accurate and nothing.

  • You could do it any other way if you're gonna replicate something from 1968.

  • But for me, bruv, this I don't actually want to leave the coffee in here very long.

  • Get it into the mug.

  • Your mark.

  • The mug of a loved one, a friend, a coworker, anyone, anywhere who would like some delicious coffee.

  • Give it to them and that's kind of it.

  • I can't look at this and then suddenly I know what to say.

  • Do you Do you like how it looks?

  • If you do, then you might want to consider this.

  • This is a statement piece for a kitchen for a house.

  • This is not something you hide away in the kitchen on.

  • This is not gonna fit in every kitchen.

  • Actually, this would fit in your kitchen.

  • I would like to see your kitchen.

  • Guess it's probably pretty cool, but that's it.

  • It is one of the most sixties things I've ever seen.

  • Even the scoop that it comes with feels like it comes from just a different era, a different time.

  • And I love it, even if I'm never gonna use this scoop.

  • I love it.

  • It really appeals to me.

  • Let's talk construction.

  • It's mostly plastic, because that's how it was built the first time around, and it does have a charming quality to it.

  • It is quite a light gauge of plastic throughout.

  • That's not really a bad thing.

  • From a broader perspective.

  • It'll keep your brewing.

  • What a pretty hard it's got a little lid on top, So extra extra heat happening here.

  • I found the plastic pretty charming.

  • I find it kind of beautiful.

  • It's, you know, obscenely retro.

  • No question, it's obscenely retro.

  • And if that really upsets you, congratulations for getting this far into the video in summary.

  • Doesn't mean as coffee.

  • Yeah, it does.

  • I really quite enjoy the coffee coming out of this thing.

  • It doesn't have the bells and whistles.

  • It doesn't have the kind of cry for interaction that more modern bro's do.

  • This is a brewer that wants you to put coffee in water in and just leave it alone.

  • You can tweak and you can play and you can stone.

  • You could do some stuff and you can get some more out of this brew if you want to, But I don't really feel that at its core.

  • That's what it's supposed to be.

  • I'm not gonna lie.

  • It makes me smile.

  • It pleases me.

  • I'm enjoying my coffee from it.

  • I'm enjoying kind of having this little moment off history in a funny way.
