Now there's a bit of a fashion at the moment for comedians to use members off their families in their acts.

Sarah Millican and Jack White will have both done it, and now Matt Lucas includes his mom in his new show.

It's called the Matt Lucas Awards, and celebrities get to pitch their nominations in a number of strange categories.

Perhaps you can explain why you nominated texting all speaking because it drives me, man, I can't let you do it.

So how does this work back that they get that?

Do they choose and you choose categories before that's right.

That was the baddest habit that was thehe water.

So they're given the award category.

The awards in advance on Then they get to choose the nominations and argue what they think should win.

And then I decide what?

We've been doing this on radio for a few years.

This idea on then the BBC asked us if we'd like to bring onto television.

Did your mum appear in the radiation?

No, no, she wasn't in the radio show, but I just wanted to make a little bit different from some of the other shows that on Dhe.

I was trying to think at the time, the only other person I could think off who'd had their mom on the show was Ibaraki.

Yeah, so she used to.

She used to sort of sit there in this rocking chair in the corner of knitting while he was playing on the piano.

So I thought I would be quite nice to have my mom there.

And also, you know, people used to say little Britain was a bit rude.

And I aren't you obviously really proud of a little Britain and you know, the work I've done with David, But I thought I would don't try and do this sort of thing that I'm doing with David.

If we're doing something on our own for the moment.

So if I got my mom there, then this show won't be too rude.

Don't want t o.

I know where she is confused to seven little Britain.

But when they do pretty so I mean.

And actually, now you've seen my mom.

You know that That is a bit how she speaks, Actually, didn't she?

Just watching this morning.

She watches this show every morning.

Did she really tell you offer stuff?

Know what she did?

She'd occasionally say she saw.

She thought something in Little Britain was a bit over the edge, You know, she'd say, Well soon, General down like that sketch.

You know, that's another two people s o.

She actually want us to do the kind of nicer stuff, you know, But little Britain waas spiky.

You know, that's that's how we saw things on dso sees.

Did she like her role?

I mean, did she did you when you asked her to do it?

You have to do that.

Yeah, she said, Well, I'll have to think about it.

And then about 30 seconds later, she called me up.

Yes.

No real would like to do it, and it was nice, but she just retired.

But, you know, she's one of those people who just retired.

But as you can see, she's full of beans.

So what made the whole interview about your mom?

But what did she do?

But she'll be very happy if you make the whole interview about her.

What did she do before she retired?

She worked in an office.

She was a secretary at our synagogue.

Uh, that, you know, our family it belonged to, so should work there for about 20 years.

Funny that is funny is that we're now having seen your mom.

I'm sort of curious about, you know, where did your you said your comedy A G in the whole Little Britain things sometimes.

Yeah, but this show is actually very It's quite, although it's on quite late at night.

It's quite a family orientated.

The show actually.

So it was kind of it.

Was it a kind of kickback?

You're kind of comedy at, You know, quite well it's funny because little Britain people used to say, Look, Britain's really edgy, but that was nothing compared to the live shows that David and I used to do and saw a clip just now.

That wonderful comedian showcasing, and I used to do it right and I used to do gigs, those sort of gigs.

And David and I used to play the Edinburgh Festival, and we were really rude, and people used to come and see us for years and say, We love what you do, but you could never put that on TV, so we had to work hard with Little Britain to find a way of doing it.

So we always thought the little Britain was really safe version of what we did.

And then when it came out, people said it was a bit rude.

Do you miss the rudeness, then Would you like to get back?

You know, I think it's fine.

I just I like to keep doing things that I haven't done.

Last year I did a film in America, did the Matt Lucas Awards.

I was in Les Miserables with mean and so and so so I just like to do different things.

So it's fine.

It doesn't mean I'll never be rude again.

Some people meet me in the street.

They think I'm very Will you be a judge on a talent show.

I don't think that's me, but I think David is fantastic on it.

You know, I think I think he's a Nazi on to its time.

It was going on going, I don't know.

But it works, isn't it?

I mean, it's Ah, it's, um It's like a Sebastian and the prime minister from Little Britain.

That's that's wonderful.

Watching them together, It's called the Matt Lucas Awards.

Is that because you like award ceremonies or you don't like?

Because the award is actually based?

That And even though he was covered in this kind of terrible scars, he still had ah, screaming Hordes of you can see why of young ladies at the stage door on, he would often come home with giant boxes of chocolates that he'd be given on a good night.

So we'd always have chocolate to tuck into dealt with.

You also involved as well on your the national youth music.

Well, I was in two companies as a kid.

I was in the National Youth Theater when I was 16.

That's where I met David.

But I was also in the National Youth Music Theater when I was 13 with Jonny Lee Miller and Jude Law on.

They do specifically musicals on on the 22nd of this month.
