  • everyone.

  • Welcome back to another video.

  • So this week series is all on zoo animals.

  • So let's start off the week by painting a draft.

  • Okay, So to start, I'm just gonna go through my materials.

  • I have my arches.

  • Watercolor paper.

  • I have my Windsor and Newton comment Watercolors.

  • I have my Princeton snap brushes.

  • I'm using a smaller paper.

  • I just cut one of the big papers into quarters.

  • So smaller paper, smaller brushes.

  • Um, I have a size six and size to one hands of my water, my paper towel, a pencil and my reference photos.

  • So we're doing a giraffe, and I just found this photograph on Pinterest.

  • I'm gonna use another photo for reference colors because I don't really like how it's so muted.

  • I just wanted to get the shape of the draft with this, but I liked the positioning.

  • So, um, I already did just a couple of points.

  • Like if you can see my pencil lines just so I don't bore you with how many times I would race it.

  • Hopefully it will turn out because I like I've said in my other videos about animal tutorials.

  • I'm not the greatest When it comes to animals.

  • But I'm gonna try my best and try my best to explain it.

  • So here we go.

  • Okay.

  • So and then if you need to trace a photograph, by all means, go right ahead.

  • I don't see anything wrong with that.

  • Just try not to paint Earth trace anyone else's artwork.

  • But I think photography is fine.

  • Okay, So I'm just gonna start up here, Um, where the horn things are, and it's kind of like along u shape.

  • Okay.

  • And they have these two thinking you somebody out there cold at the top.

  • But I'm just trying to do a really, really light sketch.

  • Then they have these really big, prominent, kind of like eyebrow bones comes down and they go out like so okay, and then their eyes we're gonna be sitting right underneath there some beautiful eyelashes.

  • I'm just gonna do the top of the eyes there, and then I'm just gonna kind of there's almost, like, a diamond shape here of where there's gonna be darker color, kind of going down to the nose and then the nose.

  • Yeah, these two big nostrils and you go around them and then it has kind of like this big lip thing.

  • So technical with my words.

  • I apologize.

  • I'm not the best at explaining illustrations, to be honest, cause I'm not the best at it.

  • We all have our strengths, and this is not one of mine.

  • I tried to draw this free hand a few weeks ago and it turned out to be a disaster, so I had to take a breath and try it again.

  • And right now it's going okay.

  • Still a little odd looking.

  • He's gonna do the under part of the eye, because then the cheek kind of comes down.

  • This is where I get kind of lost at the shape of the face.

  • It goes like out.

  • I don't know who told this turned out great.

  • Maybe this needs to be bigger.

  • I don't know.

  • No, it's pretend that's the way it goes, Okay.

  • And then I'm gonna do the ears.

  • They almost look like dear Piers and I.

  • When I look at these kind of things and a reference photo, I kind of look at where the line starts and where it comes back.

  • So it comes back right on, right above the eye and under the brow bone.

  • So I'm gonna make a little thing there, and it goes up.

  • You know what?

  • This might be helpful, too.

  • Sorry I didn't think of this earlier.

  • Okay, so right here goes up around it underneath the brow bone.

  • So I feel like I'm starting up too high, actually, and scoops down.

  • Sure.

  • Okay, then up again.

  • Oh, just above I underneath the problem.

  • It's like a curve.

  • Okay, Just going to erase this little line here, okay?

  • It's not bad, guys.

  • It's not okay.

  • And then I'm just gonna do the neck coming down where?

  • So I just look, it comes up underneath the bottom lip, and then kind of in this little did it here for the spaces.

  • And then there's the hair on the back.

  • Um, okay, so I'm gonna create the detail with my paint after, So I got the outline.

  • I think I hope this turns out okay.

  • Not really feeling this ear, and now we're just gonna wing it, Okay?

  • Hope some of that made sense.

  • This that's not existent there.

  • What?

  • I don't know what I'm doing, Okay.

  • No, You know what?

  • We're gonna wing it with paint.

  • I've never been much of a drawer.

  • So let's see how this goes.

  • So the first thing I'm gonna d'oh is I am going to do my first layer all over with a light, light, light, light brown.

  • So I already have some light around here very, very light wash.

  • Because essentially, it's gonna be the light parts underneath those spots too.

  • So I just want to make it very, very light.

  • But I'm just gonna cover the whole draft of the base.

  • Is that I'm gonna do some wet.

  • On what technique?

  • Except the Maybe the hair there.

  • I won't that part.

  • If you wanna erase your pencil marks more, go ahead.

  • I got kind of lazy with that part.

  • Oops.

  • Or someone made at this point of using, um, water color pencils, so it just kind of soaks it up.

  • I don't mind the pencil marks for now.

  • Okay, so we got our first layer here, and now we're just gonna take some darker color, make sure it's still wet, so you can continue to do your one and wet, and you're gonna take some darker color.

  • So I'm just gonna take my burnt number here.

  • I might actually mix a bit of orange cadmium orange in there, and I'm just gonna start dropping it places.

  • So there's darkness and that kind of diamond shape there.

  • And then there's darkness up here, Um, going thio on this whole like nose part is all brown.

  • Now, I'm gonna go over this again to do the details, So it's not gonna look just like this.

  • I don't I think that it will, cause it won't.

  • Okay, now I wonder if I want to do this spots now?

  • Actually, no, I will, but this isn't gonna be the shape of the spot.

  • So I'm just gonna lay down some color, not in the actual shape just to get some color down there.

  • Now, there's some darkness in the years, actually.

  • Know what?

  • I want to clean up some of this.

  • It's spread out a little too far for my liking, so I'm just drying my brush and pushing that color away, okay?

  • I'm not gonna take some black, but it's dark at the top of those Can't worth any, aren't even I should look up what?

  • These words.

  • And I was gonna drop some black in the ear here and then a little bit here where this diamond is, but not as much as last time.

  • I just want to darken it up there, huh?

  • And then around the nostrils with this darker color.

  • Just try not to use too much paint and water, because that's a spread out everywhere.

  • But I just want to darken up these bits, and then I'm gonna go back in later, once it's dry and do the detail.

  • Okay?

  • It's starting to dry up here, so I'm just gonna if your paper drives, just try and re wet those areas if you can.

  • Okay.

  • Don't worry too much about it, but it's trying her best.

  • Okay?

  • And now I'm going to let this dry, and then we're gonna do the detail on top.

  • Okay, so now that it's completely dry, okay?

  • And I know it looks like a blended master.

  • Like, where are you going with this painting?

  • You know, you wouldn't be wrong.

  • I don't know where I'm going with this meeting.

  • No, actually, I really like to do what?

  • I went for the first layer and then I d'oh the detail on top turned around.

  • Okay, Okay.

  • So I'm just gonna mix more darker color here.

  • and now I am just going to start doing the detail.

  • Okay, so I have too much on my brush.

  • So I'm gonna outline and fill in kind of this.

  • There was a way to show you all okay.

  • I mean, you can probably hear my son's screaming in the background.

  • Stargate.

  • So this kind of like diamond d shape above the nose on the forehead.

  • So I'm just gonna kind of It's all about layers with animals, I find Look the best.

  • Just roughly bring it down.

  • And it doesn't have to be perfect shapes, right?

  • They're animals.

  • They're not gonna just like our faces aren't perfect.

  • Neither theres rate so out, saying they aren't beautiful.

  • But the marks aren't all symmetrical.

  • Just gonna bring some other color down.

  • Then I'm gonna go where those nostrils are.

  • Thank you.

  • And then I'm gonna durkin up this mouth area, you know, go around here.

  • The natural, actually.

  • Hold on.

  • I'm just gonna blend it all out.

  • I'm gonna do those little natural parts darker.

  • So let's get this whole mouth this color brown.

  • We'll end up doing another layer after like that.

  • I really hope I'm making sense.

  • I apologize.

  • If not, you're just kind of watching me goof around to do this for the first time.

  • We're just gonna create some spots.

  • Don't worry about being too accurate of where it's placed on the photo.

  • Just kind of like the gist of it.

  • Okay, man, I love giraffes.

  • I think they're gorgeous, but they are heard to draw.

  • They're such a awkwardly shaped face.

  • No offense drafts, but what up?

  • Okay, then they have these kind of, like lines over here.

  • I'm just going to the light wash.

  • Just starting up the area bit and then get darker at the top here.

  • Just kind of little spots.

  • Rough little brushstrokes.

  • Don't even worry about it.

  • Okay.

  • Yeah.

  • See, I outlined this brow a bit really light, so if you want really sin line using watercolor watercolor brush Just really, really light pressure.

  • Okay.

  • You outlined those ears a bit corrupt the pencil lines, and then I'm just gonna go back in here to get some that dark hair go.

  • Okay, Now, I'm gonna move on to some parts down here.

  • The spots and I usually always do the eyes last.

  • So you know what?

  • I want more orangy in this two.

  • So I'm just gonna What All should hear.

  • My gosh, who am I?

  • Sorry, guys.

  • A little ridiculous when I think.

  • Okay.

  • And now I'm just gonna start putting in.

  • I think the lip goes down here.

  • I can't tell if that's thumb bottom lip or not.

  • What?

  • EPPS?

  • Okay, now I'm gonna start putting in some of those spots now.

  • Kind of where I went with the wet on wet.

  • I'm gonna follow that.

  • It's always nice to do them kind of light to and then drop in the color just to give it and interesting Will can feel That is way too much water.

  • Okay, bring us down.

  • Actually, just make it look a little bit interesting.

  • More wet on wet here for you.

  • So create those shapes with a whitewash, and then you can drop some darker color in there.

  • That's too dark.

  • Kind of love is a little bit more orange, too.

  • Sorry, I'm all over the place here.

  • I want to match response a bit better.

  • Has brought a light washing it over.

  • You know what?

  • Maybe it did appear to Okay.

  • Sorry if I don't know if you can call this a tutorial.

  • I don't know if I'm giving you many tips.

  • Feel like I'm just kind of letting you watch me do this orange in here.

  • I'm sorry if this is out of frame.

  • Oh, my goodness.

  • I'm having a day.

  • Okay, Okay.

  • So I'm done, Miss Potts?

  • No.

  • All right, I'm going to I'm sorry I'm putting this back here because it's just in my way, and I keep going out of frame, Okay?

  • Now, I'm gonna do the darker hair down here, so I'm just gonna makes more brown and black and do the line going down the back just to kind of on uneven back here.

  • There have been some color, like, Okay, like that.

  • Okay.

  • And then I'm just looking at these ears again, and I'm just kind of want to add a bit more shadows.

  • I'm just adding a light wash in there just to add a bit of depth to the top that years, cause that kind of flat looking, maybe just some texture, just some lines, Okay.

  • And now we're gonna do the eyes, and then we will outline those in our strolls.

  • Unless it's dry.

  • It's not dry.

  • It And I don't want it to blend.

  • So now we're gonna do the eye black.

  • So we have our pencil lines still there, Hopefully off the top of those eyelashes.

  • Those beautiful eyelashes goes down.

  • So I did the top eyelash first and then curve of the eye and then meet that with the curve.

  • Then they kind of have a line underneath, too.

  • So just do an extra curved line underneath.

  • Looks like Mama's drafts have been up all night with a screaming baby.

  • I could fill that in with black.

  • If you'd like to leave a little bit of white space for, like, a little, uh, like a little shine whenever you can do that.

  • Or you could go back over it with, um, white paint if you have that to which I'm going to do.

  • But if you don't have white anger paint, leave a little bit of white space, we'll show you where to put it after just come.

  • Okay, I think that's dry.

  • I'm just gonna popped up nostrils in there like that, like a very, very light wash.

  • Just kind of go around the nostrils just to create that definition of hm.

  • I think she's looking mighty fine.

  • my friends.

  • Some days you just need toe walk away.

  • If it's not working and then come back later.

  • I told you I did this a couple weeks ago.

  • It did not turn out, but this I'm actually fairly happy with.

  • So if something doesn't work out, try it and then tried again.

  • Sometimes you just need to walk away and take a break.

  • I'm one of those people.

  • It's dark in this up of it.

  • There we go.

  • Okay, I'm just gonna let the eyes dry, and then I'm gonna do the little white spot, okay?

  • And for my white ink, I have Dr Page Martin's bleed proof White.

  • Oh, my goodness.

  • I think I need to get more of those stuff because it is all dried up because I did not take care of it.

  • Um, and then I'm just gonna do a little white shine in the eye like that.

  • Just makes it look a little friendlier, don't you think?

  • All right, then I actually might Excuse me.

  • Slips create a little lightness on this about there.

  • Sometimes you just need to step back and look your painting and just see what's missing.

  • See what you could add I just wanted to have a bit more definition there and I think I am done.

  • It's not bad.

  • So create your own dress.

  • Paint it uploaded to your instagram if you have one.

  • I'd love to see what you guys can D'oh!
