ABC confirmed to me news that Chambers, who plays Dr Alex Karev, is officially departing the show, which is currently in its 16th season.

The 49 year old actor has been with the serious since the pilot aired in 2005 and soon became a fan favorite.

Throughout the seasons, audiences watched his character developed from an intern to an empathetic surgeon.

Chambers confirmed his exit in a statement, saying, There's no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that's to find so much of my life for the past 15 years.

The actor also stated that he hopes to diversify his acting roles and career choices.

He went on to thank the network Shonda Rhimes.

All of the cast and crew have been with him from the beginning, and, of course, the fans.

Chambers last portrayed the doctor in Episode 350 which aired on November 14th.
