  • So what are these video based exercises?

  • Well, they are brand new to the Police Officer Assessment Center on DDE.

  • A number of police forces are starting to use these when assessing potential recruits like yourself to join the police force.

  • So they are essentially video exercises.

  • You have to watch two video exercises on one of them, assesses your understanding of the new police values.

  • So you are required to watch two video scenarios off police officers dealing with a situation or a specific incident.

  • Now the video clips are around 2 to 3 minutes in length.

  • Now you are not allowed to take notes, but you will be. 00:00:56.710 --> 00:01:4.650 Then ask questions following each video clip to assess your view on how the police officers dealt with the situation. 00:01:4.940 --> 00:01:9.060 So you may also be assessed on observational skills. 00:01:9.060 --> 00:01:14.930 So, for example, they may say to you what color hat waas the person wearing?

  • What color was the ball in the video?

  • How many cans of drink were there in the video shop, for example.

  • So as I mentioned, you cannot take notes.

  • So you are relying entirely on memory on observation skills.

  • So, for example, you will be watching a video clip on this is a still that I've taken off the video clip, and I'm actually going to show you this video soon and get you to ask some questions so you will see on the right hand side there are two police officers and on the left you up to use who are drinking alcohol on a park bench.

  • And then you would watch the clip and be asked questions such as, Do you think the police officer handled this situation in the correct way? 00:01:57.500 --> 00:02:1.540 Another question might be what could the police officer have done differently? 00:02:1.640 --> 00:02:7.670 And then on observational question might be what color cat was the youth wearing who was furthest away from the camera. 00:02:7.670 --> 00:02:14.090 So you can see there that the cap is red and you would have to remember that so assesses two things.

  • Your understanding of the values on whether they were applied during the scenario on also potentially observational skills.

  • So what?

  • I'm going to do now is I'm going to play a short video clip of two actors to police officers who are in a fictitious scenario.

  • Watch it from beginning to end and then answer the questions that follow.

  • Don't take any notes.

  • Treat.

  • This is a really exercise.

  • So let's get straight to the video.

  • Watch what's going on.

  • And then afterwards, I'll ask you some questions.

  • It's a painful.

  • And then I got lost.

  • Yeah, holding James, what's going on here?

  • Have a drink.

  • You like saying I am 18? 00:03:1.060 --> 00:03:2.160 You need to prove that. 00:03:3.270 --> 00:03:14.890 You know, you can't be drinking a whole bunch of if you're gonna drink underage drinking, which clearly you don't look at me.

  • Then I'm looking me when I'm talking to you.

  • If you look under age, then we're gonna take your drinks.

  • We're gonna report yet.

  • I'm gonna report you to your parents.

  • Come on.

  • Don't call your mom.

  • Right.

  • We're gonna accomplish you.

  • Give us a little don't do it again.

  • Yeah.

  • Okay.

  • So you've now had time to watch the video clip from beginning to end.

  • I will now ask you four questions based on the information that you saw within it. 00:03:55.160 --> 00:04:1.630 the video clip, and I would like you to put your answer to each question in the comments section below the video for marking on. 00:04:1.630 --> 00:04:6.150 I'll come on here each day and I will give you my view on your particular answer. 00:04:6.240 --> 00:04:11.390 So question number one was the conduct of the officer nearest to the camera?

  • Acceptable?

  • If not, what did he do or say that was, in your view, unacceptable.

  • And remember, you are being assessed against the values off a police officer.

  • Question number two Did the police officer have the right to confiscate the drinks?

  • So did the police officer have the right to confiscate the drinks?

  • Question number three, How would you have handled this situation?

  • So tell me in the comments section below the video what you would have done differently.

  • Or if you think the police officers have done this in a good way, then please do say so.

  • And question number four.

  • How many cans of drink did you see in the video clip?

  • So there's four questions for you.
