  • Then I had some of this food this weekend watching the NFL games way Roosters of football, but to start us off.

  • Huge news just broke by letter.

  • Monroe carry Combs, new co defense coordinator, secondary coach for the Buckeyes.

  • That's a huge get right.

  • Absolutely.

  • I mean, you know, to have Coach calm.

  • She was already was a strong part of program before he obviously took the legal codes were able to come back and to now solidify our secondary coach.

  • Our situation.

  • That's using recruiting for all the young guys who have been waiting in the wings, looking for the opportunity to see who they're gonna have a chance to play for. 00:00:50.810 --> 00:01:3.440 And he's a great recruiters bringing back the Jews and the, you know, So you already know that now, with those two years of experience in the NFL, I think it makes a lot of sense when he comes back. 00:01:3.440 --> 00:01:6.730 He's more season had a different aspect of different point of view. 00:01:6.740 --> 00:01:10.730 He comes back rejuvenated you know, it's, Ah, a species in college.

  • You know, I was gonna ask you with your brother getting recruited, right?

  • And you know that this is a guy who who's got Bradley Roby, Eli Apple, more shot Lattimore, Gary on Conley.

  • He's got all those guys under his boat at Ohio State that now we're first round draft picks.

  • How's that change from recruits?

  • Perspective?

  • Because, you know, I listen, I wasn't a d B, but when you have a coach, you know when you have coach fickle coming in from my perspective, he's got Yo Hawk, Bobby.

  • He's got all those guys are okay.

  • It's It's big, right?

  • So how does that change from a recruit standpoint?

  • I think it just opens your eyes to really see you know, the development in him so that he can connect.

  • And what's really great about Kerry is he loved to connect to the players, and he feels that report so is I think, you know, Coach half came in NFL experience as well. 00:01:59.860 --> 00:02:9.590 Well, they will connect to guys like Damon aren't really lift his game back up because we all thought that Hey, he was a four, a five star recruit. 00:02:9.600 --> 00:02:10.900 He didn't live up to his potential.

  • When all of a sudden it's senior year, he comes out and has an excellent year in the secondary, and it takes ah, the acid anxiety away as a recruit.

  • Yeah.

  • You know, in that same note, Mike having a coach, you Yeah, he's great.

  • Recruiter.

  • Everybody knew about it before he before he went to the NFL.

  • Now, on the same side as recruiting goes as a high school kid.

  • Does it carry more stock?

  • Hey, this guy was in the NFL.

  • She was successful.

  • And, you know, we've been waiting for a couple of weeks because they've been going through that playoff run.

  • You know, everybody thought Kerry, you know, there was gonna be the guy we weren't sure.

  • You know that Does that.

  • Does that play into, you know, going through recruiter as a secondary guy?

  • You know, you knew that he put guys in the league, but being in the league and seeing what it's like, Do you think recruits gonna say you know what? 00:02:54.790 --> 00:03:4.640 He's gonna be able to help me even Maur get to that point or, you know, just kind of got no big deal wasn't it definitely a stamp of approval because he coached at the highest level, right? 00:03:4.640 --> 00:03:5.750 So he left on his own terms. 00:03:5.760 --> 00:03:6.260 Exactly. 00:03:6.270 --> 00:03:7.490 So he coached at the highest level. 00:03:7.490 --> 00:03:8.390 He wasn't fired. 00:03:8.650 --> 00:03:16.700 And he want to come back to highways from his roots, are here and allows him toe have that voice of confidence and reasoning.

  • Any kid was thinking about coming to our house state, the Ohio State that he could go say, Hey, I have a relation with this GM coach.

  • We're seeing this scene.

  • Yeah, No, I know the whole draft process.

  • I know how you're evaluated.

  • I know when it comes to the combine with really looking at the combine all that stuff because when he came from, you know, high school to a house a really Well, he's a sensitive guy.

  • People living down there, Can he recruit?

  • And now it's like I will.

  • He did well.

  • And then I went to the well, like I think it would be crazy.

  • I played ah, four.

  • Coach Combs love him to death.

  • The only thing that I question right is that we all know what those coaches go through for a minute from an NFL perspective, right?

  • It's completely different than college.

  • My thing is, he left has been gone for two years. 00:03:57.940 --> 00:04:0.850 How long's it take him to adjust to get back to the college way? 00:04:0.860 --> 00:04:3.760 Right where the off season you're including right? 00:04:3.760 --> 00:04:10.070 You're not sitting in a room going over draft board's going to the combine, going to rodeo dirt on the road at all times, right?

  • You have spring ball, right?

  • It's just completely different dynamic.

  • And so, from my perspective, it's How fast can he just from the NFL life the last two years to now jumping in under a new head coach, right?

  • It's gonna be, Ah, new things that Ryan days implemented you no different from what Urban had.

  • So no now, so what?

  • You know, especially now he's he's a defense coordinator is not just a second.

  • I said that a few weeks ago, talking about would he want to come back?

  • You know you got the NFL lifestyle.

  • Do I want to go recruit these kids again?

  • I want to go be on the road now He's a coach, you know, that's what he loves, and he loves to be around these college aged kids and so he wanted to come back.

  • I think that's huge to say Hey, listen, I want to be on the road.

  • I want to be recruiting.

  • I want I want this extra stuff, not just sitting draft board meeting and things like that. 00:04:56.890 --> 00:05:4.310 So I think it's huge and I would say with his personality knowing him over the last several years, and I think he likes to be engaged with true development of the athlete. 00:05:4.540 --> 00:05:5.990 Yeah, but this time he recruits. 00:05:5.990 --> 00:05:8.390 The kid comes in at 18 years old time. 00:05:8.390 --> 00:05:9.880 They leave their 22 years old.

  • You know, if they don't leave early whatnot, but he likes that development, really had long time high school coach.

  • You like seeing those?

  • I agree with that.

  • I think when you get off to the NFL, it's a lot more maintaining right.

  • You're going over to the right.

  • I feel like I agree.

  • I think he likes the idea of helping develop kids, knowing that if I get him in college, I can make a bigger difference from their freshman to senior year, right to make a bigger impact on him compared to what guys get to the NFL, right?

  • You're top of your game.

  • There isn't much you're taking him from here to here, right?

  • It's a lot more just giving him tips.

  • Different personality, over attitude.

  • I got money.

  • I'm not listening to you.

  • He's back here and help you grow to be a better man, you know, down the road.

  • So you don't have to go through some of the bad stuff.

  • Maybe once you get to the league.

  • But there's a huge get for the Buckeyes, and, you know, they finally fill that position. 00:05:58.490 --> 00:06:0.740 It's gonna be, you know, known and done. 00:06:0.740 --> 00:06:5.140 And, uh, any recruits minds that he is no knowing that it's a massive get. 00:06:5.140 --> 00:06:5.910 And I agree with you. 00:06:5.910 --> 00:06:10.320 I think it from recruiting standpoint to I think Jeff Half Li was great.

  • But you know, from a No.

  • One what Carrie Combs has done at Ohio State for him to come back, it's just astronomical for what it can do from an upside from recruiting the secondary moving forward.

  • And the biggest thing is as we all you want, approving eye right in the sense No coach happily came from 40 Niners.

  • He has an NFL experience, but Buckeye Nation really didn't have any idea who this guy was?

  • So the brain back coach carry Combs into this role?

  • Well, we know he's a proven guy.

  • He has had a great tenure here, and then he goes up to the next level, Has a great run, you know, just ended up yesterday.

  • No losing in S C Champs Gang.

  • Here's a question for you.

  • I don't know.

  • Was he here with Ryan?

  • They last year when Ryan first came here? 00:06:53.170 --> 00:07:0.530 Because, you know, that's the thing was like a head coach, you know, he knew about him, but that helped them. 00:07:0.530 --> 00:07:2.950 Your relationship was here for one year. 00:07:3.240 --> 00:07:4.020 That could be different. 00:07:4.030 --> 00:07:9.660 You know, I got a young guy who's a coach for the first time, bringing you back, you know, just seeing what that he was here for one year.

  • So speaking of, ah, recruiting, coaching, things like that.

  • Nick Bosa, Larry Johnson, right?

  • I know everyone talks about.

  • We've talked to talked about it multiple times what Larry Johnson brings to Ohio State what he brings toe developing these guys from when they get here toe when they leave.

  • I don't know if any coaching college can say that they've put out guys like Larry Johnson with boast of brothers with Chase Young coming out.

  • I mean, it's unbelievable.

  • What way?

  • He may be the best time for the Bangles.

  • S o. 00:07:48.270 --> 00:08:1.930 You know, Let's touch on that and especially Nick boast of the way he played last night, having a big sack Aaron Rodgers and then I don't know if you guys told us, but he's on the sideline showing some of the older guys technique stuff during the game that's coming from Larry Johnson. 00:08:1.930 --> 00:08:14.990 So you as a recruit as a high school guy, if I'm watching a game and obviously any football fans watching that game right, you're seeing Nick Bosa go over things with guys who have been in the league for a long for a long period of time, teaching them things that Larry Johnson taught him.

  • So you know, to talk a little bit about what Larry Johnson brings that to a recruiting aspect that you're seeing Nick but Nick boast to bring to a field on Sundays.

  • Well, I mean, the thing for me is to see that you know the hands on and truly grabbing everyone's attention it like Okay, this young guy He's a rookie.

  • No, actually know what brother was here before?

  • Said San Diego made an impact, but now he comes in there making a run here in the playoffs with the Super Bowl and he's in the game like, Listen, guys, if you do this, move on this on this guy or you see that drop step one on that left tackle Hey, come with this little hook and slap. 00:08:50.740 --> 00:09:0.560 And actually, you know you're gonna have a chance to make a play, and I just It just takes the true development in the passion that Coach Johnson has to teach his guys. 00:09:0.650 --> 00:09:3.900 It shows that even from what I understand, he watches all this in a pill. 00:09:3.900 --> 00:09:6.650 Guys take Wednesday when he has some free time. 00:09:6.650 --> 00:09:8.170 Just if they give him a call. 00:09:8.180 --> 00:09:13.090 Because what you see on tape you got guys texted him throughout the week, maybe do something.

  • Just remember this.

  • Remember when we did this back?

  • The foundation, but your fundamentals.

  • And to see most of, you know, I actually have a great Ricky a probably Rick Defense.

  • Ricky year.

  • Yeah, you should be aware that war hands down have that impact.

  • His team's super Bowl.

  • And as we saw from the AOC tempted game with the Titans, they could not get any pressure on the quarterback.

  • It's gonna be different.

  • It's truly elusive.

  • You can see that they were trying to search, looking for some blitzes, know some change, some things up.

  • But Braves.

  • They did not have a guy get hard.

  • There's too much time.

  • He was sitting back there multiple times, 8 to 10 seconds, just trying to find something around, wringing it out.

  • String out, CEO.

  • You scored the touchdown.

  • I'm near just kind of know scrambling. 00:09:59.420 --> 00:10:4.320 And I think where a coach Johnson's true perspective comes in is in crunch time. 00:10:4.320 --> 00:10:7.670 Moments where these guys elevate the level of play is different. 00:10:7.810 --> 00:10:13.810 You know, you go against the acronym against the Miami Ohio, the ball and greens, and you have a 23 set game.

  • But if you're getting that done against Penn State, getting big dog, clearly you're not done in a costume.

  • While playoffs that carries over to Sunday's eso, here's something for us to discuss real quick.

  • There's so many people at that letter, Monroe that are watching this and saying, Hey, the boast of brothers were five stars.

  • Chase Young was a fire start, right?

  • You got all these guys.

  • They're five star players.

  • How much is a coach, Really?

  • How much saves?

  • You really haven't escaped.

  • How much road is a coach really contributing to this guy?

  • When he's that.

  • What is that college right there like a These guys were really talented.

  • Everybody wanted exactly the kind of like the great horse, right?

  • Just put up.

  • Just get him in the race, right?

  • Get him in the starting.

  • Exactly.

  • Only let's go.

  • Right.

  • So, you know, let's discuss how much control How much is it?

  • Larry Johnson.

  • How much of this isn't Larry Johnson rather than just a poster brothers and chase being where they are, I think when when Larry got the job, I mean, it was all you heard was how awesome he was backed up in, you know, like maybe this is a huge gets, you know?

  • And then you look at the guys who had a Penn State.

  • Well, is it the same type of thing right now?

  • Those guys were kind of freaks.

  • You know, Harrington for you know, I mean, he had some players there, too, but to see what he's able to be.

  • I mean, I think Hubbard is probably a good everyone across guy, you know, coming out of high school.

  • I think the weight room Nick young him big and then add that to Larry being able to show him and kind of get working with him, getting into the little reason where he's a draft pick.

  • I mean, that kind of shows you how good this coaches and and you hear him talk about him.

  • I mean, Bo says they could be off their Outen.

  • Callie will be off in your own world.

  • They could care less about Larry Johnson, but they don't mean they want to stay in touch.

  • They want to still talk to him.

  • That shows you to carry that on to the lead. 00:11:58.370 --> 00:12:1.910 I think it's huge showing like a We left Ohio State. 00:12:1.910 --> 00:12:4.520 We got us to where we are helped us to get to where we are. 00:12:4.520 --> 00:12:7.400 But we still want to lean on him and asked him for help. 00:12:7.400 --> 00:12:13.440 And I was like that and let's be honest, we all know gas you go off to the NFL are making millions of dollars right and whether it be passed.

  • Anything less You can tell me anything.

  • They They love Ohio State.

  • They appreciate that.

  • What?

  • You know, how did form?

  • But they're not calling back Thio, Coach.

  • They're not even coming back all the time.

  • Whenever they can.

  • And being around the program, they just a thank you.

  • And they're moving on making their money, right?

  • So I think it goes to show what kind of relationships he builds and all that.

  • Sort of that he has in that room.

  • And those guys just truly haven't believe in him.

  • And then what?

  • What?

  • How he's helped develop them.

  • That's what you see.

  • You see, the talent is there, and he was able to pull it out way pushed him to a level, you know, where they go.

  • Oh, my God.

  • I'm still here at this level.

  • And it's something that Coach Jake and tell me or ah, key word or phrase that hits that moment. 00:12:59.960 --> 00:13:1.350 That hottie like you know what, Coach? 00:13:1.350 --> 00:13:1.800 You're right. 00:13:2.240 --> 00:13:5.000 One other thing is having all those great players in one room. 00:13:5.010 --> 00:13:5.370 Yeah. 00:13:5.510 --> 00:13:13.400 I mean, I think you know you got Nick or you got Joey in the next couple years younger keeping everybody happy, keeping well focused on what you know.

  • Chase Young was supposed to be the guy who was this year is freshman year.

  • Nobody takes sometimes, you know, But he keeps people happy, gives them focus on what they're supposed to be doing, what we're trying to do.

  • But you know, to get better.

  • And you know, you never really had just they seem to be great guys, hard workers who just want to listen to their coach and and go out and Dom.

  • And I think this is why you know, the post of brothers Chase young Sam Humber.

  • I think that's why they respect Coach Johnson so much.

  • It's because he rotates so many guys throughout a game, right?

  • He's constantly in that room.

  • He knows how to keep everyone happy, knows how to get everyone to work together.

  • He knows how to make that defense a line room.

  • Ah, family, right?

  • Those guys really go in there and they care about one another.

  • They want to get him with chase over here and everybody's looking like Coach, can you come help us? 00:13:57.940 --> 00:14:4.040 He puts responsibility on those guys, get everyone else better, and he is there to support them, right? 00:14:4.040 --> 00:14:13.850 So I think the structure that he sets up builds them up for success on the field, in Ohio State and off the field yet or no, no doubt.

  • Defense of staff strong, you know, and, uh, really know it helps recruit the way they've Internet.

  • That does help.

  • But you know, it's once you get in here, you gotta, you know, get him on the same page.

  • You got to get them in the program and, you know, they nobody's doing it better right now.

  • If you add in making Girardi, he's so good t that true development, that that's what he has, that the player has to have a great relationship with strength coach, your position, coach and obviously the team, and to have that combination throughout that process, these guys are phenomenal and making it happen here in Columbus.

  • Yeah, I mean, it's been no since Coach Urban came in with this group. 00:14:51.620 --> 00:15:1.840 You see that true formation that every year they're just continue to stack and stacks and stacks and stacks and raise that level player a 2% of perspective positions, right? 00:15:2.100 --> 00:15:6.150 This is Letterman live presented by roosters out here on the island Danger River Road. 00:15:6.310 --> 00:15:11.200 Everyone come out lunch, dinner, bring the family, bring the boys, bring the girls, whatever it may be, right.

  • No doubts before we before we wrap up, everyone obviously saw the run that Titans had this year right in the playoffs.

  • And what coach for Abel was able to do with that team and take in the NFC championship game.

  • Unless Beyonce can see Chiefs are uber Town, there are insanely the two best teams.

  • They're gonna be in a nearby.

  • I completely agree with you.

  • But speaking on that, we saw coach for Abel here at Ohio State.

  • We saw him make next step to the NFL.

  • There's always some kind of change of right when you come to a house as a coach.

  • As a fan, I know people get disgruntled about Coach is leaving, you know, especially Coach Halfway go in the Boston College.

  • It's gonna happen when you come to a house that you are the best of the best.

  • People want you, right?

  • So I kind of wanna talk to you guys and pick your brain, because I know a lot of people are thinking what goes into these guys decisions going on the next level. 00:15:57.280 --> 00:16:3.990 What makes them Ah, great coach, whether it be Coach Rabel at at Tennessee or Coach halfway going to BC, right? 00:16:4.040 --> 00:16:4.380 What? 00:16:4.390 --> 00:16:7.360 Who do you think the next one in line is that? 00:16:7.360 --> 00:16:12.390 What makes colleges or NFL teams reach out to these guys and making future coaches?

  • Well, it starts with our premier program.

  • The Ohio State is one of the top three programs in the country After you can at L S U up to that mix.

  • Now, with him being a national champion.

  • Clemson has been there in Alabama, has been there, and we probably house a Clemson and Alabama are probably those three year I'll see you next year is gonna be dog.

  • So many people think.

  • I think you've got a very alludes here, right?

  • Well, with those three and then I think you've got another very high Teer were Maybe that was the big time.

  • As easy as you think.

  • But this what everyone's gonna ask, right?

  • You look at Alabama and Clemson in Ohio State, right?

  • Those top three.

  • Why don't Clemson and Alabama have the turnover that Ohio State does?

  • Right? 00:16:56.130 --> 00:17:3.520 Why are those guys staying when Ohio State's got all these coaches every single year that are either moving on to the NFL or moving on head coaching jobs. 00:17:3.530 --> 00:17:3.960 What? 00:17:4.170 --> 00:17:5.530 What is it for? 00:17:5.530 --> 00:17:6.950 You really easy money? 00:17:7.240 --> 00:17:8.540 Yeah, they start paying. 00:17:8.540 --> 00:17:13.270 They started playing defense coordinators and big time position coaches a lot.

  • I mean, back when we reclaim your assistant coaches, maybe making couple 100.

  • You know, if you're a coordinator, maybe four, right?

  • I mean, Clinton.

  • I bet their offensive coordinator prime making 1.1 900 s O that that helps you stay somewhere longer.

  • Used to be.

  • Hey, I'm gonna go get to see a coaching job to get the big payday.

  • More money now.

  • Hey, I'm happy.

  • I'm making a ton of money.

  • We're winning a ton.

  • I mean, Clemson's had their coordinator since, what, 14 animals.

  • You know, they don't leave, hurt him.

  • Hurt his name 45 times.

  • I heard her, but I think that has a huge thing to do with it, you know, Now all it comes down to the coach.

  • Do you want to be a head coach?

  • You know?

  • Are you gonna be okay?

  • You know, being in Are you from Columbus There.

  • Bernhardt line.

  • Goto.

  • How state do you love Columbus?

  • Do you want to be here?

  • Right. 00:17:59.500 --> 00:18:3.030 Maybe he doesn't like to go somewhere else, cause he's happy, You know, he's making good money. 00:18:3.300 --> 00:18:5.060 You made good money mentally abut. 00:18:5.240 --> 00:18:6.680 Well, I think that has let's do it. 00:18:6.680 --> 00:18:14.060 And I think you know, for I mean, just, uh, combat a little bit of Alabama because Nick's has turned over a lot of his assistant coaches.

  • Air Now hear coaches sec.

  • So I think it comes down to the head coach how he runs the organization from that perspective.

  • Right?

  • You know, you you goto coach for Nick saving to kind of get that 10 years of experience and you go, Okay, I got 23 years under this guy.

  • What's my next step for me?

  • You know, I want to be a head coach.

  • So you try to coach under the best coach under Urban Meyer, you know?

  • And then you take your chances to say, you know what?

  • I want it on my own.

  • No one on my own merit.

  • You don't want to go out here and live up to the hype in C.

  • Can I really bring my level of coaching up to that level.

  • So those guys running their organization like CEOs, you know, where Nick Saving Urban ran the organization?

  • Like, Look, I'm challenging you.

  • I'm challenging you.

  • You have to get better. 00:18:59.390 --> 00:19:4.260 Because if I leave or you want that next job, then I have got to make sure that you're prepared for those moments. 00:19:4.580 --> 00:19:16.040 Those those kind of universities on those kind of coaches get chosen to come thio like Ohio State because they know this is a stepping stone to essentially get so where true aspirations are.

  • We just saw Coach Tony outfit interview for the Colorado State job.

  • He didn't get it, But, you know, he was interviewed for you because because being at the House day kind of put him on that level, right?

  • I think one thing that Nick does down in Alabama really well is throughout.

  • You know, each year is almost feels like head coach gets fired.

  • Yep, He makes a minute, brings the men, you know.

  • So I think he continually does that trying to find the right fit and pick everybody's brain.

  • And, you know, he knows he's gonna lose some coaches, so he does that on a yearly basis just to get people in the building, pick him and see if he feels good with them.

  • If you need iron, then you can because it's tough.

  • I mean, urban at Florida, he lost a lot of his coaches and, you know, Florida started going because you're losing great coaches.

  • You know, it's hard to replace those guys and have that same level. 00:19:58.590 --> 00:20:2.720 So I think I think this is the other thing that people need to realize that all how state fans need to realize that. 00:20:2.730 --> 00:20:4.530 It's a good thing for Ohio State, right? 00:20:4.910 --> 00:20:6.340 Is that number one? 00:20:6.340 --> 00:20:9.640 I think Venables is a wild card, right? 00:20:9.640 --> 00:20:10.890 He's been there great.

  • He's got a son on the team right there, always happen that way.

  • But yes, I think he staying there just because he's that kind of guy that maybe doesn't want to leave Dad.

  • Bo was happy with where he's at right, but I think the the success that will have six coaches have had moving on, becoming head coach is right and especially under Urban and now possibly coach day right as guys move on, I think that it tracks teams and not a bad way, but I don't think Nick Saban's assistant coaches have had the best track records moving on to be head coaches.

  • Right, whereas and you see Urban's guys moving on and having great success.

  • You see what what Grable's doing at Tennessee and he came from Coach Meyer, right?

  • You've seen what some of these other guys were able to do.

  • So you see these, these universities or these NFL team zero in because they're like, Hey, these guys have had success. 00:20:58.090 --> 00:21:3.560 They have a program where the assistant coaches know what it's like to run a team to run an organization. 00:21:3.560 --> 00:21:11.650 When and no doubt you have expected to win in Columbus, Ohio, and the brand that our house it has globally.

  • They want that to rub off on their program.

  • So let's get this guy here.

  • Maybe he'll rub off on what we have, and we can maybe get get to that point.

  • Let's be honest.

  • We say Alabama Clemson in Ohio State or the top three.

  • They are right.

  • It's a top three, but I don't think even with Clemson, Alabama, no one's got a national draw or a national president president.

  • Good word of Ohio State, right?

  • You find Alabama and Clinton so much in the South, right?

  • They cover the South in their massive right.

  • But you don't hear Clemson and Alabama so much up here.

  • Resident.

  • You go, you go to Florida was in Florida for the Final Four game.

  • It's packed and people this Buckeye fans everywhere.

  • And guess what?

  • There's people rooting against the Buckeye fans more than any other there is right.

  • It's just getting an amount of perception of a house that has nationally, I think goes a long way with a lot of these universities looking for new coaches and what you really find, you know, in our a d.

  • Ging Smith and the marketing of our program, I mean to have the largest inland I know in the in the world.

  • I mean, that push just constantly pumping Ohio.

  • Stay out there.

  • No corporate America.

  • We got some of the biggest brains and companies here in Central High.

  • Oh, no, no, no.

  • Being successfully got nationwide.

  • You got limited brands.

  • You got these global companies, you know, so that that brand connection with Ohio State makes it really intriguing.

  • But then really, to have Jean kind of really push out.

  • You know, the athletic programs and we just aren't to be successful in football, don't have.

  • We also try to compete in other sports.

  • They're always the Presidents Cup or whatever it is that in the year.

  • But I think I I think the marketing standpoints use what you said, right, the marketing of Ohio State. 00:22:56.520 --> 00:23:5.830 There's no one better in the country, right with the way they market, their teams marked the university everything that Ohio State Does that mean they market without thing and then they win. 00:23:5.830 --> 00:23:6.750 They back it up, you know? 00:23:6.750 --> 00:23:15.140 So it makes it easier for two time Heisman Trophy winner, only one you know, for a football and that you have all the major awards, as we saw.

  • I mean, no, I got blessed with being on the water camp all American all times, you know?

  • So you have myself in a way, you know?

  • You know, you see James, where night is a J.

  • Hawk and Chris Spielman gets elected.

  • So you see that rich tradition of our program, that national prominence recognition Orlando pace on the all time.

  • So you have all these different, you know, Avenue are good to have those amounts of names on the list like kids looking at this.

  • I mean, you go to Ohio State like people need also realize, yes, kids from recruiting sample.

  • But it's also recruiting with coaches, right?

  • It goes back to a conversation. 00:23:54.980 --> 00:24:0.700 You know, Ohio State recruits the best kids in the country all the time, which they're gonna recruit the best coaches. 00:24:0.700 --> 00:24:1.380 And guess what? 00:24:1.390 --> 00:24:6.810 When other universities or organizations are recruiting their coach, they're gonna go to Ohio State. 00:24:6.820 --> 00:24:7.940 That's where they're gonna go here. 00:24:7.940 --> 00:24:8.580 They're stopping here. 00:24:8.580 --> 00:24:9.580 Columbus to go. 00:24:9.580 --> 00:24:12.760 Okay, who's we ever think of the literal meaning?

  • You know, they were always nervous thinking Ryan Day might get a coffin in the fair, let you were in the cost of all playoffs because the guy you know this is think about.

  • If you look at his 10 year Justin's Fields would be his first quarterback in seven years that he has two years of coach two years in a row.

  • Unbelievable.

  • Like when you look at those statistics, I mean, this guy is on fire to be the next the next coach from college that goes in the field.

  • We pray to God that stays here for a loan.

  • When everything you heard from, I mean, it seems like he wants to be here.

  • He's got young kids, you know, like, this could be a place where he listed him grow up.

  • And that just helps his recruits.

  • No, but it's also Ah, let's also bring this up, right?

  • We could have brought this up earlier, but this a great kind of transition into it.

  • Is that who we talked about the beginning? 00:24:59.620 --> 00:25:0.360 Carry Combs, right? 00:25:0.370 --> 00:25:1.150 Everyone's asking. 00:25:1.200 --> 00:25:2.830 Why'd he leave the NFL to come here? 00:25:3.080 --> 00:25:5.480 Guess what If he comes up here and he's a d. 00:25:5.480 --> 00:25:7.320 C and his don't what he's done. 00:25:7.320 --> 00:25:11.140 When he first came here, it was very left us up where he left off.

  • Guess what?

  • He could be in line for that next head coaching job.

  • If he really thinks Ryan is gonna jump ship at some point, go the NFL exactly being here or ah, Premier program, just a mid tier.

  • Where is like you know what?

  • I want to see if I contest the waters and Ramon deal for him, you know, ultimately coming back.

  • Too clumsy.

  • I think he's merry.

  • Wife All Ohio raise here Coast here.

  • How high school Then he had a great coaching career here that he has some grandkids still closer, you know, and I think that Cushing family coaching, family and I think, the business of the NFL, where he did not have a lot of the control on player selection.

  • Right, you go to these combines Goto, you know, you go to free agency in exile.

  • OK, who do you think? 00:25:53.360 --> 00:26:9.090 And maybe he wanted to Guys, let's be honest a lot times The NFL to hit coach doesn't even have to say, You've got a GM, You've got an owner who really got the final say head coach could be pounding the table for a player, and he may not even be able to get it exactly. 00:26:9.100 --> 00:26:16.630 So have him go out and say, Hey, I could go sit in this young man's couch, Talk to his family, you know, offer this kid a scholarship.

  • Now he comes play for me and I know I'm getting and I can develop him.

  • I can help push him to that next level, and I had that experience now, so there's no there's no coaching tenure that he hasn't had it this point.

  • So for his set being a head coaching college or a head coaching NFL before we wrap this up, let's get some predictions, right?

  • We got Super Bowl in two weeks.

  • There are guys out both sides.

  • Darren Lee is Ah, what the Chiefs and Mike Weber's on the practice squad of the cheese.

  • And then you obviously got Nick Bozo with with the Niners.

  • So we've got Buckeyes and both sides.

  • At least one.

  • But guys could be We're gonna be getting a ring.

  • Right?

  • So games happen last night.

  • What?

  • Ah, what are we thinking, man? 00:26:59.070 --> 00:27:2.520 I mean, I think they're both a defense. 00:27:2.530 --> 00:27:6.540 Cisco, I mean, yes, for Jimmy G only throw the ball eight times. 00:27:6.550 --> 00:27:8.850 I mean, that blows my mind. 00:27:9.190 --> 00:27:9.870 Answer when? 00:27:9.870 --> 00:27:15.870 Well, in the end, to win the way they did, are they gonna be able to run the ball like, you know, against the Chiefs like that?

  • Like they did last night?

  • 200 some yards?

  • I think so.

  • I mean, they're running back was a journeyman in the league.

  • Seven different teams were big 10 kids out of Purdue.

  • Yeah, what's the university?

  • Purdue and the Browns cut Brown.

  • That's the one position the grounds were okay, you know, for him to go out and have a career day, it's phenomenal.

  • Just him staying the course and his battle.

  • A few injuries.

  • I are last year's.

  • But to get that that real chance so so cases, talents goes off.

  • Hats off to him for having a great great game yesterday. 00:27:52.100 --> 00:28:3.570 But I think when I look at the total package of a team special team's offense defense, the 40 Niners clicking there really clicking Mahomes Magic go. 00:28:3.580 --> 00:28:6.680 I know that Zoe say they're clicking on magic. 00:28:6.690 --> 00:28:10.500 Can is hard when you're leaning on when you're really letting your quarterback now grand.

  • They didn't need him to throw the ball lot.

  • Yeah, but eight times go Keep up with Patrick Holmes and his offense.

  • You're gonna need a 300 yard rusher that day to keep up with how many points they're gonna put on the board.

  • I think now, granted, he had plenty of time.

  • We talked about that.

  • You know, Nick Bosa doesn't create pressure.

  • Does that offensive line for the 40 Niners not live before you die first rounders?

  • When I did, they dio showed yesterday.

  • D'oh For support by the big difference for them would be there deep in the back play, you know, against the speedy Speedy can see the receiver.

  • They have got old man Richard Sherman, right, matching up young eyes on his own store.

  • 100 stories.

  • You can. 00:28:59.100 --> 00:29:0.600 He guarded Cheetah one on one. 00:29:1.200 --> 00:29:2.450 That's gonna be some big questions. 00:29:2.450 --> 00:29:6.210 And we have two weeks to hype this thing, and I think it's gonna be a great game regardless. 00:29:6.220 --> 00:29:9.100 Uh, I mean, a lot of points on the board, I would think. 00:29:9.110 --> 00:29:9.360 Right. 00:29:9.360 --> 00:29:12.830 I just I didn't get a prediction from either of you two weeks, man.

  • Oh, yeah.

  • I listen Thio talk radio for two weeks, and when I got to watch a little detail, I mean, I'm sitting here.

  • I grew up 40 Niners fan.

  • You know Ronnie Lott, J Rice.

  • That was my era, Joe, my 10 of my favorite quarterback.

  • I mean, that's all the time, Brady.

  • But I love Joe Montana.

  • I washed the guy's a bowler man footballer, but I I'm leaning in with the 40 Niners right now.

  • But then as I watched how Tennessee ran through the playoffs and ran to a plus off against Kansas City.

  • And think about it.

  • Kansas City was now 24 back to back games. 00:29:48.700 --> 00:30:0.210 Now, thinking this, they can score so quick s o much beyond what was actually pretty impactful for the can see the game yesterday. 00:30:0.420 --> 00:30:5.130 And that third quarter actually slowed down and said, Hey, we want to run the ball They did and establish the run. 00:30:5.530 --> 00:30:9.360 So, you know, when you got him thrown all over the place, it's Look, it was a thought. 00:30:9.540 --> 00:30:14.750 Who would have thought the Chiefs would have outrushed Derrick Henry by a wide margin?

  • Yeah, this what is the only thing I'd say?

  • I believe you in the NFL.

  • You kind of never know where you get every week, right?

  • I mean, we're all professionals.

  • You don't know.

  • It's like college football.

  • It's it's, you know, it's kind of ah, flip of a coin sometimes, right?

  • But I think it's the first time in a long time that you are getting by far the two best teams in the NFL, right?

  • Going in the last year's games like l A Rams pats, I'm like, right, I think the pattern.

  • Yeah, good.

  • Right now, going into this year.

  • Everyone's like, Oh my God, Kansas City's really good and 40 Niners are really good, right?

  • It's gonna be an all out war Now I feel like it's the first time we've had to sell storyline.

  • Kansas City Hefty years, 50 years.

  • I'm kind of rooting for that.

  • How was that? 00:30:58.190 --> 00:31:6.720 You know, just no toe Have to be, Ah, the more Hunt Trophy presented Thio family. 00:31:7.010 --> 00:31:13.630 That's a great story on air and 50 years and said, You know, they call it the Chief's Kingdom, you know they're going down to Miami.

  • Miami is gonna be a great atmosphere.

  • Are Super Bowl, you know, seven was in Miami at a great place to be man.

  • Miami doesn't and frame with the history of their Super Bowl, that is, with her seventh.

  • It has been 2025 years for them, right?

  • I think they're the first team since, like 1980 something Bangles to go from, ah, season with a 444 games or less.

  • Now go on the superior.

  • So they have completely turned it around and that's all there.

  • Quarterback was out last year back way got two weeks to hype it up so They're gonna be a lot of fun.

  • You know, you hope kept Campbell shoulder situation with the 40 Niners, but they've got depth tears we saw yesterday. 00:31:57.540 --> 00:32:0.790 And then, homes, man, I just He is the wild card. 00:32:0.800 --> 00:32:4.110 I mean, and have I have a lot of talent on that received. 00:32:4.120 --> 00:32:11.050 I mean, Chelsea is a freaking third and six or less.

  • I'm telling you, Travis, Kelsey could get every first out.

  • Every first out is unstoppable.

  • I'm in a double.

  • Tim went on with a linebacker corner.

  • Safety is a gentleman off the line, and I still can't believe you so got cheat on the outside.

  • You so, Sami walking, giving everyone else a car.

  • So you guys all right walk ins had his first touchdown since week one.

  • It was a huge play, you know, Little broken cover is not the guy down.

  • And he just took off and made a play.

  • So NFL eyes got so weak.
