  • Every two years, the coffee industry packed it's bags and heads to mom.

  • It's a city famous for fashion and design, but it also has one more attraction.

  • They had their to attend what is probably the largest coffee show in the world host.

  • The event started in 1966 originally focused on hospitality and tourism, was originally an annual event, but it soon changed to being every two years, and this year is the 41st year of host.

  • The show takes place in the sprawling Fierro Milano in row to the northwest of the city.

  • The first time you go, it seems overwhelmingly large on the complex of holes itself is over a kilometer long at the core of it for me of the coffee holes.

  • This is where manufacturers of coffee equipment come to show off.

  • No expense is spared as they build massive booths.

  • One part sales, one part puffing their chests and showing off.

  • Some booths were basically many factories built to show the latest and greatest in packing or resting to allergy.

  • For as long as I've worked in coffee, Host has been the event that manufacturers have used to reveal new products.

  • This year is no different.

  • I was there to help launch the project that I've been working with.

  • But I'll cover that in depth in a different video.

  • While I was here, I couldn't miss the opportunity to slowly work my way through the holes to see what is new and interesting.

  • There were quite a few terrible robots.

  • It seems that a certain style of espresso machine that probably is traced back to Kay's Vanda Beston.

  • Well, it's become incredibly common place.

  • There's also been a leap forward in the complexity of some of the espresso machine interfaces that aside, there were a few interesting things.

  • Caramel Lee had an induction powered espresso machine that didn't have a traditional boiler in it.

  • Right now, it's just kind of a proof of concept, a technology rather than a product.

  • But it will be interesting to see what they do with it in the future.

  • Lama Zarco had several new products and prototypes.

  • Then you swung grinder generated quite a lot of attention.

  • It was notable because you control the number of rotations of the birth to set your dose on dhe They'd also come up with an interesting way of de ionizing coffee particles to get rid of the problems that static causes.

  • There weren't a lot of domestic product launch at the show because it just isn't that kind of show.

  • There were a few things that might pop up in future videos in the near future.

  • Now the idea of Starbucks selling espresso back to Italy is an interesting one.

  • The biggest advantages they have coming into Milan is that they have built a vast, stunning roastery in the heart of the city.

  • It's unquestionably beautiful as all their reserve a history spaces.

  • This was the first reserve store that I had seen, though, where I'd noticed the focus was shifted away from really any kind of takeaway coffee.
