  • What up, everybody?

  • It's Joe from Complex, where in New York City of Sitting goods with tech expert Marquez Brownlee.

  • Got to be here.

  • Conducive sneaker shopping today to see what he's feeling, what he's not and then, hopefully is gonna buy some sneakers.

  • Definitely.

  • Let's go.

  • Marquez saw video and you said you're not a big sneaker head per se, but that your cousins are sneaker heads.

  • Yeah.

  • Did they make you aware of this world coming up?

  • Well, them a little bit.

  • They're both younger than me, but they're both Hooper's.

  • So they report super into shoes.

  • Also, some of the guys in the studio bigger sneaker heads.

  • And I wouldn't call myself super into that world yet.

  • But a spar is these first few years of experimenting with it.

  • I'm finding a lot of stuff.

  • I like one thing about you.

  • You were a lot of Jordan ones.

  • You came Jordan one P.

  • S.

  • G.

  • It's absolutely true for someone so tech forward, I thought maybe so.

  • Maur Technology runners.

  • What is it about the Jordan ones?

  • I mean, if the silhouette is obviously timeless, I'm sure you could ask 1000 people.

  • They'll look great a lot of people's favorites, but they also are kind of like that launching point.

  • So, like I got into a lot of ones and one of my first favorite presence uses ones.

  • But then after that, you sort of find variations of it later.

  • Jordan's maybe other Nikes from other athletes that kind of fit in line with that.

  • So this is just kind of like the launching point for me, I guess.

  • And you have a bunch of these.

  • Like we said, You're wearing the P S G s.

  • I noticed the couture ones.

  • You've been wearing a lot.

  • You don't get the couture would love these.

  • I have a funny story about these.

  • I call these a Gaff Tape one.

  • Okay.

  • I have other black ones like the PS cheese.

  • Looks like you just put a red piece of tape around.

  • Yeah, locally and known at our video studios Gap tape one's shooting.

  • Ah, YouTube original.

  • Siri's where we happen to have experiment with dry ice.

  • Okay.

  • I had to have close toed shoes that were these.

  • Jordan's, as you know, have a little little perforations on the top, so they need to, like, cover my toes just to make sure I don't get any dry ice liquid nitrogen in them.

  • So they put some Gaff tape on the top of the shoes.

  • So I have a picture of the Gaff tape Gaff tape one.

  • Wow, we need that big vanities.

  • Marquez, You were part of two big sneaker launches.

  • Yes, Kobe, 11.

  • You got to interview him.

  • It was for this shoe.

  • Yeah, different color way.

  • But what did you take from him in terms of how involved he is in the design aspect and things like that?

  • Part of the reason I can get so into shoes is because of specific footwear for athletes That's designed a certain way.

  • And I was actually surprised when he was talking to me about the shoe, how involved he is in making a shoe that's both, like, custom for him.

  • And it sort of represents parts of his career and things like that in the tech in it.

  • You know what?

  • He's a professional interviewee, So he was really good at making me look like a good interviewer.

  • This was one of the first interviews I ever did, but I mean, he could talk about the shoe in basketball all day, but that was that was pretty special for me.

  • The other launch you were part of Steph Curry.

  • Five stuff.

  • 35 I asked you to come in.

  • They did kind of like a Steve Jobs apple type of.

  • Yeah.

  • How did that come about?

  • That was his team reaching out.

  • They wanted to do again.

  • Focus on the Tech in the shoe.

  • And I figured, what better way than to have sort of an additional character That was sort of tech focused.

  • I played myself in a commercial basically, and talk to talk about what was in issue, which is pretty funny.

  • Met stuff afterwards.

  • This is also right before he wanted chips.

  • So this is like, I feel like I'm either.

  • Good luck.

  • You're gonna Rick, just give you a ring.

  • I didn't get a ring for my partner commercial, which was kind of a bummer, but I still feel like I contribute a little bit more, because when it comes to reviewing tech, you're held in the highest regard on YouTube.

  • I was wondering, you know, we have people like Nightwing and Jock Slade who doing boxing's and review sneakers.

  • What advice could you give to a young creator who was trying to get into the M boxing and review space on YouTube.

  • So your voice matters.

  • Obviously, you want to not try to copy something that already exists.

  • I love Jack, by the way.

  • I met him a couple times, guy, but you want to have your own unique perspective, and that might sound super obvious.

  • But if you just kind of copy what already exists in this sneaker world, there's so many different things to choose from.

  • And there's no reason to watch what you're making because it already exists.

  • So you come with their own voice during perspective.

  • Maybe if you're innocent photography around camera tricks, things like that.

  • But at the end of the day, there's a 1,000,000 shoes to choose from.

  • So you find something cool, and it's all about being discerning, really letting them know and cons and honest.

  • Yeah, yeah, there's got to be stuff you don't like.

  • That kind of falls in line with all the rest of stuff you can like seven out of 10 shoes, and you can make those seven videos.

  • But if there's those last three that you're like, I really wish things were different.

  • I wish there was something better about these.

  • Give that feedback that's actually usually just as valuable.

  • 2016 You're one of the first people to review the air.

  • Mags tripped the reissue.

  • You like them as a prop put as a wearable sneaker, not your first recommendation, and they're heavy.

  • I mean, you kind of look Thio sneakers to being a little mix of practicality, functionality and design.

  • They nail the design.

  • It looks dope, but there's like batteries and motors and things in it that you just can't really wear every day.

  • And then, you know, we saw this year the Nike Adapt Bees, which the basketball on court shoe, We saw Kyle Kuzma wear them.

  • Jason Tatum, What do you think?

  • The steps that they're making with every it oration to improve the tech?

  • Well, it's impressive that they're actually wearing them on the court.

  • So, like two generations in, they still are working.

  • I'm sure on things like shrinking amount of batteries, you need shrinking the size of the motors and most of the weight.

  • Because you talk to any athlete, the weight of the shoe is important.

  • You just read it in like ounces on.

  • You know already how it's gonna feeling your foot.

  • Yeah, but yeah.

  • But the fact that the tech has gotten this good this fast is a testament to how hard they're actually working on.

  • It's not just marketing anymore.

  • Another type of technology and want to talk about Adidas is doing four D printing with the future craft this soul.

  • Have you got a chance to experience these yet?

  • No.

  • Uh, so they're calling a 40.

  • Yeah, 40 printing.

  • Even though there's three d printing.

  • Uh, you know, it's it's a thing.

  • They like Thio again.

  • Talks of the marketing and sort of play out the tech aspect a little bit.

  • And the way that it's actually made is better.

  • As far as making them cheaper and making them on a mass production scale.

  • It looks pretty dope.

  • You're not gonna lie, but I haven't gotten step in them yet and see what I actually feel like.

  • Brands always say it's always starts with the athlete, or so we start with function over how it looks.

  • What do you think right now is kind of winning the tech game when it comes to major sneaker brands?

  • Good question.

  • I mean I'm so focused on the cleats when it comes to like the lightweight in the performance of it.

  • And every year since I have to buy him every year, Nikes is still evolving their quits, and a lot of the different warring soccer cleats is about the foot touched on the mall.

  • We're not doing that as much more running around throwing the disc, but I still do feel the difference in the cleats.

  • Um, hope when they get a little more durable, but they are getting more light, more sturdy.

  • So that's good.

  • Well, we talked about everything.

  • Now is the easy part.

  • Get the browser shelves.

  • See where you gonna take home?

  • I'm ready.

  • Let's do it.

  • E was talking about a little bit splash of color before, and I think in this color way this little double double total waste.

  • Look, I like these a lot and check these out.

  • So these I've always kind of liked, and I've had my eye on for a bit.

  • Being a red and black fan.

  • Human race shot John Fertility people me on these well ago, Theo off white Chicago.

  • If there's a good time to get these fried right now, So I'll add these two cards.

  • What's the same time?

  • So told in half this guy right here, Full well, two tone, dual color.

  • Look, I think that's it for today, right?

  • Marquez, your tool for today is $9714.

  • 92 cents?

  • Yeah, I think I'm done for a while after this one.

  • You appreciate it.

  • Enjoy going to get everything.

  • So Marquez came through.

  • Got some great pickups.

  • Thanks so much for taking the time.

  • Thanks for hosting.

  • You know where to find him.

  • YouTube.

  • Don't buy any tech without this guy.

What up, everybody?
