No one else was injured and the Clinton family was not in the White House at the time. Early on the morning of September 12th, the pilot, Frank Quarter, stole a plane from a small airfield in Maryland and headed towards Washington. Witnesses say Quarter entered restricted airspace made a left turn near the Washington Monument and headed straight for the White House. The plane struck the South Lawn and slid about 50 feet into the residential quarters of the building. Secret Service agents saw the plane about 14 seconds before the crash, but took no action. When asked about Quarters’ motivation for the act his brother pointed to Matthias Rust, the young German pilot who landed a plane in Moscow's Red Square. Well, he said hey, check that guy out you know... Because he was a flyer... Right. A flyer and he made a name for himself and landed in Red Square. After the crash, a review of the Capital’s aerial defense plan was ordered.
