IT'S FORTUNATELY STAYING ON THE WARM SIDE, BUT DON'T LET IT FOOL YOU. WE HAVE AREAS WHICH HAVE SOME STANDING WATER, SOME PONDING ALONG THE ROADWAYS, AND THAT CAN TRIP YOU UP AS YOU'RE OUT THERE TRAVELING. SO EVEN THOUGH WE'VE YET TO SEE ANYTHING REALLY DEVELOP IN THE WAY OF ICING OUT THERE, THAT CAN HAPPEN, AND REMEMBER IT'LL HAPPEN FIRST ON ELEVATED SURFACES WHERE YOU DON'T HAVE THE WARMTH OF THE EARTH UNDERNEATH THE SURFACE THERE. THINGS ROLLING ALONG WELL ON THE EXPRESSWAYS, AS YOU CAN SEE HERE. AND WE'RE TAKING A LOOK AT A SITUATION IN WHICH WE HAVE, AS I SAID, PRETTY MILD TEMPS AROUND CHICAGO. BUT WE ARE LOOKING AT SOME RAIN THAT'S FALLING ACROSS THE AREA, RAIN THAT WILL CHANGE OVER AS TIME GOES ON AND CHANGE OVER TO SOME FROZEN PRECIP AND EVENTUALLY SOME SNOW. RIGHT NOW HERE'S WHAT WE HAVE IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS, TO THE NORTH BARELY NOTHING AT ALL. AS YOU WORK YOUR WAY FROM THE HEART OF THE CITY TO THE SOUTHEAST WE HAVE SOME PRETTY GOOD RAINFALL GOING ON, MODERATE TO EVEN HEAVY DOWNPOURS AT TIMES. THIS IS SITTING ALONG A STATIONARY FRONT THAT IS RIGHT HERE AND BARELY MOVING. IT'S A STATIONARY FRONT. BUT IT'LL EVENTUALLY BE MOVING TO THE EAST AND START TO DRAG IN COLDER AIR, AND THAT GIVES US OUR CHANGEOVER. BUT LOOK AT HOW MILD IT IS RIGHT NOW. 34 DEGREES AT WAUKEGAN, 40 DEGREES JOLIET, 38 DEGREES IN MORRIS, 41 AT VALPARAISO. WINDS ARE REALLY GETTING UP THERE, 28-MILE-PER-HOUR WINDS AT WAUKEGAN, 31-MILE-PER-HOUR WINDS AT O'HARE. HERE IS WHAT WE HAVE. THERE IS A LOT GOING ON. WINTER STORM WARNING FOR THE AREA IN PINK. THAT'S McHENRY COUNTY, DEKALB COUNTY AND AREAS TO THE NORTH AND NORTHWEST OF THERE. WE HAVE A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR MUCH OF THE REST OF THE AREA, AND WE'LL SEE SOME SNOW DEVELOP THROUGH THESE PLACES AS WE HEAD INTO THE EVENING HOURS TONIGHT. AND ALSO WE HAVE THE CHANCE FOR SOME FLOODING THAT WE'RE KEEPING A WATCH FOR THROUGHOUT THE GREEN AREA HERE AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE DAY TODAY AND WE HAVE THESE DOWNPOURS THAT HAVE HAPPENED, THOUGH A LOT OF THIS IS SET UP TO THE SOUTHEAST OF THE CITY. FINALLY A LAKE SHORE FLOOD WARNING WITH THESE STRONG WINDS COMING OUT OF THE NORTH/NORTHEAST THAT CAN DEVELOP WAVES UP TO 15 TO 18 FEET ALONG THE LAKE SHORE. IT'LL BE PRETTY DRAMATIC LATER TODAY. AND WITH THE LAKE RUNNING SO HIGH AT RECORD LEVELS REALLY, IT GIVES US SOME REAL PROBLEMS WHEN IT COMES TO FURTHER EROSION OF OUR LAKE SHORE. WIND GUST TRACKER SHOWS US WHERE WE GO LATER TODAY. LOOK AT THIS. 41-MILE-PER-HOUR WINDS AT 9:45 IN THE MORNING. AND BY 9:00 TONIGHT THE WINDS ARE STILL WAY UP THERE, THOUGH THEY START TO TURN TO THE NORTHWEST AND START TO SHUT DOWN THE WAVES ON LAKE MICHIGAN. THAT'S THE GOOSES AS WE HEAD LATER IN THE EVENING HOURS. SATELLITE AND RADAR SHOWS YOU ON OUR FUTURECAST HERE WHAT'S GOING ON. THIS IS OUR TRACKER AS WE GO INTO 9:00 THIS MORNING, RAIN TO THE SOUTHEAST, GO THROUGH THE DAY THE CHANCE WE CAN HAVE SOME FROZEN PRECIP AROUND CHICAGO AND SOME FREEZING RAIN AND THEN SOME SNOW TO THE NORTH STARTS TO DEVELOP, AND THAT STARTS TO SPREAD DOWN INTO THE CITY AS WE HEAD INTO THE EVENING HOURS. BUT IT ALL OUGHT TO GET OUTTA HERE BY ABOUT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT AND BE ON ITS WAY. WHAT DO WE SEE WHEN IT'S ALL DONE? WELL, I THINK AT O'HARE YOU'RE GOING TO SEE PERHAPS TWO TO FOUR INCHES OF SNOW, MAYBE FIVE OR SIX INCHES UP IN McHENRY COUNTY AND DOWN TO THE SOUTH AN INCH TO TWO TO MAYBE THREE INCHES OF SNOW. IMPORTANT THING IS BECAUSE THIS SYSTEM IS SET UP A LITTLE FURTHER EAST, WE'RE LOOKING FOR A LITTLE MORE SNOW IN OUR SOUTH SUBURBAN AREAS, AND YOU'VE BEEN INCLUDED IN THAT WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY WHERE YOU WEREN'T BEFORE. HERE'S THE WAY WE LOOK AS FAR AS GOING THROUGH THE DAY, TEMPERATURES HOLD PRETTY STEADY AROUND HERE, RIGHT AROUND THE FREEZING MARK, 29 DEGREES ON SUNDAY, AND WE GET SOME SUNSHINE BACK.
