You might also possibly hear this proverb stated as if you lie down with dogs you wake up with fleas or if you lie down with dogs you'll come up with fleas. So there's about three different ways that you could possibly hear this phrase used. Okay. Let's continue. Let's look at the note here. The proverb basically means if you hang out or associate with people who have a bad character or a bad reputation eventually your reputation will be harmed or may begin to pay or you may begin to pick up some of these bad traits if you'll hang out with these people that have bad traits long enough. So it could go both ways. Let's continue. They say this proverb was first recorded in English in 1573 by James Sanford but anybody he didn't really coin it. He was or however he was a translator of Latin texts. So originally this goes all the way back to the Roman Empire. In Latin it read as "qui cum canibus comcum bunt cum publicubus surgent " Okay. I remember some Latin I know the cui is like who with dogs I know I got that part. The rest gets a little confusing though with and this is probably the fleas over here. But anyway that's the idea. So which is translated as they who lie with dogs will rise with fleas. So it really does come originally from the Roman Empire. All right. And we have a couple of examples here the way we might hear it used today. All right. Here's number one. If you hang out with a bad crowd. Yeah. We often say it especially to young people or teenagers. If they hang out with you know a group of kids that you know, do bad things. Maybe take drugs or shoplift or something like that. You are going to end up with a bad reputation. Remember if you lie down with dogs you will get up with fleas. Okay. Good or number two here. Number two is an a/b part . A says just because I associate with them does not make me the same . And B might say. yeah, I'm just warning you to be careful Other people will assume you are the same. They think if you lie down with dogs you will get up with fleas. Okay. Anyway that's the way you may hear it used. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it was clear. I hope it was informative . Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
