  • I'll think differently um.. and lose track of

  • what is really important

  • I think its for me um that's what I'm... were a lot of this past year was

  • relearning..um.. I don't have to be Linsanity

  • I can just be Jeremy

  • Actually, he was not a easy coachable boy

  • He...(laughing) has tough personality

  • He is.. um..a

  • person not easy to yield in

  • he will let you know that he has his own rights to decide what to do

  • Hi Everyone, I'm Jeremy Lin

  • I'm his dad. ..I'm his mom Thanks for allowing us to share our beliefs

  • and watching this TV program

  • .Welcome back to Taiwan

  • We are so excited to see you.

  • Welcome, we're so glad to have you all here

  • Wow, you all dress in black and white, just like a family

  • (laughing) Just a coincidence

  • First of all, Many fans are curious about why Jeremy made a great progress in speaking Chinese?

  • What did he do the past year?

  • This time, he can speak Chinese in the press conference and Volvo Exhibition

  • and take questions as well

  • it seems he can handle Chinese well

  • what did you do about it? What happened?

  • I have a Chinese teacher when I was in the states.

  • I met my Chinese teacher online

  • He taught me Chinese over the Internet

  • online?.....yea.. thru Skype

  • LINE app, something like that

  • Did you practice daily?

  • consistently practice your Chinese..?

  • Um..not every day..

  • its about 4 or 5 times a week.

  • 30 minutes to 1 hr practice every time.

  • So, how did Jeremy talk to his brothers at home when they were kids?

  • he seems know some Chinese, how did they talk to each other?

  • did u all ask Jeremy and his brothers should speaking Chinese at home?

  • We did not set the rule that they have to speak certain languages at home.

  • we were not strict ...(laughing) not really doing well on the issue

  • we respect whatever languages they feel like to speak at home

  • my husband and I speak more Chinese

  • We also tried to speak more Chinese with our kids..as many as possible..

  • HOST: However, He did make a great progress this time..What is the reason?

  • (laughing) MOM: that is nothing to do with me...

  • its because he has a good Chinese teacher..(ha..ha..)

  • I think he may feel its necessary to learn Chinese, ...maybe with strong motive...

  • so that he want to study hard and spend more time to learn

  • um...we speak more Chinese with them when they were kids

  • When they grew up, they speak English to each other at home.

  • My wife and I speak Chinese most of the time at home

  • We talk to our kids in Chinese, but they prefer to respond in English

  • That's why they can listen and understand some Chinese..

  • that's the reason

  • Yes, that's why Jeremy impress us most is his fluent Chinese this time.

  • Jeremy: not really, I am still working on it..(keep going..)

  • Its been a year since you signed up with Huston Rocket.

  • finally we interviewed have a chance to talk to you here in Taipei

  • after you play for brackets I'll think most of us we r very curious to know

  • what is the most difference teamed up with Houston Rockets then that with

  • the New York Knicks

  • When I was in NY

  • I did the ball control most of the time

  • In Houston, James and I both would take turns to run pick and roll

  • So, you would probably see him or me to do the ball control

  • I think this would be the big differences

  • I need to learn how to get the right timing to throw and cut to the right position in the game

  • HOST: comparing to NY Nicks, you played the major role as point guard alone.

  • but now you need to do task-sharing with others in Huston Rockets, how would you adjust yourself to it?

  • well...I have to adjust a lot.

  • first of all, I need to get higher scores on my shooting behind the arc

  • If I were not controlling the ball, I would probable standing over the wing or corner

  • When James Harden run the pick and roll, I need to get to shoot behind the arc

  • so it is important for me to score for my three-point shot. However, I did not have many chances to do it over NY Nicks.

  • HOST: Jeremy, Many people admired how would you cope with lots pressures in the long run...

  • all this differences you have been experience but before that

  • have you think of it expect for it

  • um

  • I knew there would be challenges

  • um

  • but I don't know what they're gonna be

  • so ...but I know that..

  • no matter what happens

  • God is still in control and so ..uh through my entire story through my

  • entire life that's kinda

  • always been the one thing that I try to hold onto

  • HOST: so... in the past one year...

  • Mom and dad, what did you think when he moved from NY to the new team, Rockets

  • besides the role changes he mentioned

  • What else that you found out from Jeremy's life or maturing in any aspects?

  • I think he has been ups and downs in the past few years which could make him grow maturer...

  • It was not easy for him to go through..

  • Host:How would you see the high tide to the lowest place, from Linsanity Era to clam and normal situation?

  • yeah

  • We thank that he can handle these ups and downs well

  • and he was getting maturer and having right attitude

  • we knew that he has been through many hard time..

  • the most valuable thing for him

  • learning not to complain or to curse anything

  • I think his faith help a lot in getting his calm attitude

  • He knows who he is, and would not be affected by any surroundings.

  • HOST: Jeremy, we all know that professional sports are

  • all business and since you became a NBA player you

  • came up with different teams from New York now back to Houston Rockets

  • it must be very challenging and every time entering a new team

  • how do you build up the mutual understanding

  • perfect cooperation is such a short time in order to win games

  • with the other four players in court

  • Yes, its difficult.. sometimes you can add to learn on the fly

  • for me I've been on..uh

  • I mean I played three years for different teams

  • This is my first year back to Huston Rockets

  • play for the previous team that I was on

  • by the year before

  • um but a lot it is just

  • you cannot figure it out on the fly and just playing a game and see what happens

  • and then

  • the more time you spend with everybody as the season progresses using become

  • one more comfortable

  • in the past season

  • you in Houston Rockets all 10 all season tickets

  • you must have been very exciting

  • yeah that's going to be a very very helpful for us

  • can you share some of the extraordinary

  • experience of offseason games for us I didn't think I played that great in the

  • playoffs um I could get done a lot better

  • but me is important to have the experience

  • so as I go into next year hopefully make the playoffs again but

  • I'm able to understand what the playoffs are all about for many fans here and

  • there are concerned about

  • you get hurt on the right chest in the game

  • Hows it? did you completely recover from the injury?

  • yeah

  • I've got 100% recovery from the chest hurt.

  • Host: people may ask, Jeremy, would you play to be little bit reserved after the injury

  • than the Linsanity era nowadays and much more carefully

  • other not to get another injury in games

  • uh..I would say

  • not so much I mean wanna see the first started um

  • coming up my knee surgery I played more careful

  • but as time went on I i stop worrying about it and

  • so as a professional basketball player how did you overcome

  • from the depression caused by the accidental injury ....um it just

  • remembering that God is in control

  • understanding that I'm in a lot bad situations

  • um that we consider bad a lot of times he turned those into

  • good situations in

  • a lot time we cannot see the bigger picture, but it is important for us to

  • concern situations just have faith and understand that

  • you know I don't know everything and and God's all knowing and he is more powerful and

  • I just sumitted all that to him

  • when you look back how we do see how do you see the knee surgery

  • surgery happened last year

  • I mean it was you know Linsanity was so crazy

  • um.. you know I don't know how much longer

  • crazy yeah yeah...I just I don't know how much longer I could keep going

  • um I felt like my body was

  • is taking it on my body physically mentally emotionally spiritually

  • um in some ways you know allowed me to get some rest

  • even though I don't want to get hurt

  • God's planning and God's will is always bigger than ours

  • Host: When Jeremy got hurt and had knee surgery, mom and dad...

  • as a sincere Christian family

  • How's your faith deal with these difficulties?

  • How did your families walk through it, especially from the high tide (Linsanity) to a sudden stop?

  • When you look back, can you share with us how would you support each other as a family?

  • DAD: Before he got popular in NY, he went through lots of down time.

  • all these shifts and difficulties

  • we dont know why all these things happened

  • we believe that God is in control

  • also, we have not ideas why he got popular, then got injuried later

  • we dont know why, only God knows all

  • Host: mom, you also have great influence on him..what did you think?

  • Mom: did we feel little bit sad at that time? yes

  • because he got injuried

  • I think maybe he need to take a rest

  • God may let him get some rests thru this accidental injures.

  • At that time, a regular season games were jammed into about 20 games

  • the whole game may last more than 40 minutes at a time

  • it's physically overwhelming for the body and may cause some hurts

  • Host: Many people love Jeremy, not justbecause he has good basketball skills

  • he has good personalites as well

  • coping with pressure and being humble

  • When he grew up, can you all share with us?

  • How did he learn all these attitude from ? or facing any challenges to make him be maturer? God or you train him in any ways..?

  • be patient? anti-pressures? or anything? plz share with us..(laughing)

  • um...well....

  • HOST: I bet.. is there anything that embarrassed him?

  • Jeremy: Let my mom say it .. Host: I cannot wait to hear the story

  • I okay and yeah

  • Dad: um..I want to say..

  • Mom: dad will probably say the positive or good things about ime..

  • Dad: yea, maybe from different perspectives, I would share how I played basketball with Jeremy when he was a kid..

  • He is a person with strong will, especially faceing a tough game and played better.

  • that's the reason he got used to the high pressure in a game, and he tended to focus more on the challenging or difficult games

  • HOST: Why they look so calm when you just shared the story? So, I want to hear another story about Jeremy

  • mom: um...he is not a easy coachable boy when he was a kid

  • Host: any examples?

  • He would try hard and did every ways to get whatever he want

  • he would fight for his own rights by all means

  • He want to let you know that he has his own rights to decide whatever he feel like to do

  • Even though he knew you might be right, he still insisted to do it by himself first

  • after that, he would think it over and realize you may did it for his own good

  • However, at that time, we might go through some cold war or hard time..(laugh)

  • Host: How about Jeremy in his teenage?

  • Mom: That I can cite the words his elder brother say to me before moving to another town for college education

  • he said: I sorry that

  • you will deal with Jeremy's teenage by yourself

  • Jeremy: That is probable my personality may come from my mom....thats why she was laughing

  • There was more when I was younger I would say

  • what did you do? there's can be anything...such as..

  • If I want to get some candies,

  • she does allow me to have it

  • I would purposely take more candies after she went to bed

  • or I might play video games

  • then crying, or got angry if I was caugt up by mom

  • then might say sorry..then..keep doing the same thing again..(laughs)

  • Host : When did he begin to go to church? Mom: in very young age

  • last year, he can give us a very inspiring speech

  • testifying how God is working on you

  • and how your belief I see your all along

  • and manifest that God's greatness and Love

  • in you something and nowadays no matter winning

  • are losing you always want us to find God's strength

  • and blessings you would you give us some more experiences on that

  • um yeah I mean

  • you know a lot of the story a lot on my story on my career's untold on we don't

  • know what's going to happen

  • I think what we've seen in the passes

  • uh God's glory has been shown through in a lot of different ways

  • and a in a lot of ways on that I'm not able to

  • he is giving me the strength and he is given me the ability to overcome

  • on the obstacles and I think you know this past year was
