  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Adverb Phrase 20. The adverb phrase today is

  • accidentally on purpose. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. If someone does

  • something accidentally on purpose, he or she did it deliberately. So they did it

  • on purpose but pretended or acted like it was by mistake. So actually you don't

  • really need to explain the origin of this because it means just what it says

  • accidentally on purpose. Yeah. It's usually used in a humorous way. It's

  • usually used kind of as a joke but everybody kind of gets it because you

  • know in life sometimes some people do this. All right. So let's look at several

  • examples here. Example number one . That waitress accidentally on purpose spilled

  • some coffee on that rude customer;s lap. Yeah. So maybe he said something rude to

  • her and she's pretending. Oh , oh I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I didn't

  • mean to do that and then you know , maybe she gets her revenge a little bit. Or

  • number two here. She accidentally on purpose dropped her book in front of him

  • in hopes that he would pick it up for her and they could meet. You know, this is

  • almost like a way maybe kind of like a flirting or a way to get maybe some

  • guy's attention. So she accidentally on purpose dropped the book. Hopefully he

  • picked it up and then they say 'oh thank you.' Thank you very much. Oh who are you ?

  • Blah, blah, blah and that's what could happen. All right. Let's look at number

  • three here. I hated that ugly statue my husband bought and put in the center of

  • our living room. Yes. So you , a lot of wives are very particular about you know, the

  • house and the living room and stuff like that. She really didn't like this statue.

  • So I accidentally on purpose knocked it over and

  • broke it. I told my husband I was so sorry. Oh I'm sorry. I accidentally hit it

  • and broke it. Oh I guess we have to throw it away now. Or something like that.

  • Anyway, like I said, it tends to be used in humor. I hope you got it. I hope it was

  • clear.. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
