  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Verb Phrase 182. The verb phrase today is to

  • whisk away. All right. We actually have four meanings and we got four examples

  • to cover all the meanings. All right. So let's look at the first meaning here.

  • If someone whisks something away he or she sweeps or brushes something from a

  • surface. All right. So this will match the first example here. This new broom

  • really whisks away the dust better than that old broom has done for years. Yes. So

  • especially if you're sweeping something away or sweeping something off of a

  • surface. Okay. Let's look at number two. If someone whisks something away, he or she

  • removes it quickly and suddenly. So let's look at number two here. During the

  • earthquake I whisked away this vase before it fell. Maybe you knew that was

  • fragile. Maybe you know, there could be some shaking. Maybe it was shaking. You know,

  • if it fell over, it probably would break. So maybe you just kind of ran over and grabbed it

  • quickly. You wished it away. Okay. All right. Let's look at number three.

  • If someone whisks away another person , they take or lead them away from a place

  • abruptly, very suddenly and hurriedly. Okay. Good let's look at number three

  • here. Yeah. Like in the you know superhero world . Superman flew down and whisked

  • away that girl before she was about to be hit by a speeding train. Yeah. Came down.

  • He just kind of grabbed her and pulled her out of the way. Yeah. It's a perfect

  • example of whisk away. All right number four. To take someone away on a romantic

  • trip or an exciting trip away from home. Okay. So you might hear a girl say

  • something like this. Why doesn't a knight in shining armor

  • just come and whisk me away from my boring life. Or why doesn't someone just

  • come and whisk me away to some tropical island or something along

  • that line. All right. Good and, and the last thing to note here is a whisk is

  • actually a kitchen tool. That's the one with a long one.Where the thin metal

  • wires come out. It's good for for spinning around, especially if you want

  • to put air in something. So for example if you had heavy cream and you wanted to

  • make it into whipped cream. You might use a whisk and spin it around quickly. So

  • that's the idea of where we mean that to move quickly like with a whisk or move

  • something quickly with a whisk. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it's clear. Thank

  • you for your time. Bye-bye.
