When you first meet somebody, you might want to ask them a million questions.

みんな、初めて誰かに会う時、質問をたくさんしたいと思うかもしれないけど、

But, actually, you want to keep a balance of giving and asking questions.

でも本当は、質問をすることと、受けることのバランスを保つようにするといいんです。

And in this video, we're going to show you how.

Whenever, I'm traveling abroad, I'm always wanting to meet new people, have good conversations,

僕は海外に旅行する時はいつも、初めての人に会ったり、楽しい会話をしたりしたいと、常に思っています。

and just have a good time.

そして、とにかく楽しもうと思うんです。

But, generally, all the conversations are almost the same.

でも、たいていほとんど同じ会話なんですよね。

They always ask the same questions.

みんな、同じことを聞いてくるんです。

Where are you from?

どこから来たの？

What do you do?

仕事は何？

Why are you here?

どうしてここに来たの？

Where do you live?

どこに住んでいるの？

How old are you?

何歳？

And so on and so on.

とか、そんなのばかり。

Those aren't bad questions.

別にその質問が良くないってわけじゃないけど、

But it just feels like I'm being interviewed.

なんだか、面接を受けているような気になるんです。

And I don't want to be interviewed.

僕は面接を受けたいわけじゃないから。

I want to talk to you.

ちゃんと相手と話をしたいんです。

I want to learn a little bit about you.

少しでいいから相手のことも知りたいんです。

So if you ask me what's my favorite sports team,

だから、もし僕に好きなスポーツチームがどこなのか聞くんだったら、

After tell me yours, and tell me why.

自分の好きなチームの事を言って、その理由を言ってからがいいんです。

The key is keeping a balance.

大切なのはバランスだから。

Between asking and giving information.

情報を発信する側と、受け取る側のね。

Balance is key.

バランスが大事なんです。

So the next time you see me walking down the street, or any other foreigner, go up and

だから、僕がそこらを歩いているのを見かけたら、もしくはどこかの外国人とかね。近づいて行って、

say, “hi”.

「どうも」って言って、

Start a conversation.

会話をしてみましょう。

Ask them some questions.

質問するんです。

But don't ask them one million questions.

でも、質問ばかりではダメですよ。

You want to start a conversation.

会話をするんです。

And a conversation is sharing information between two or more people.

会話というものは、2人以上の人が情報を教え合うものなんです。

So make sure you give them some information about yourself, too.

だから、自分のことを教えてあげることも忘れないでくださいね。
