This song has been sung by a lot of singers both male and female singers. Maybe one of the most notable might be Frank Sinatra. I think Louis Armstrong, but really both of them have sang it. So it's been both sung by you know, like with a male kind of a male version and a female version of it too. But the lyrics could really cover both. Anyway let's take a look at the note. here. This song is originally from a Broadway musical called \"Babes in Arms. \" Okay. The original version was sung by a woman in regard to a man with the name Valentine. So that's why it was really my funny Valentine originally. Even though now this is played every year at Valentines Day and most people most people probably think of it meaning Valentine and you can take it that way. That's the way a lot of people who did a remake of it. That's the way they kind of sing it, but anyway, let's continue. The lyrics were playfully teasing him and pointing out his flaws Things that's not perfect about him, but basically telling him I love you just the way you are. Okay. So let's let's go over it and you see why it's a really a pretty good song, and it's to be honest it's almost perfect for Valentine's Day. It ends up fitting that way even though it was really meant originally for a man that was supposed to be cold Valentine. But it's perfect for Valentine's Day. So let's go over it. Again just like usual I'll read and sing it and we'll cover any vocabulary that needs to be covered. So it starts like this. My funny valentine. Sweet comic valentine. You make me smile with my heart. Your looks are laughable unphotographable. Yet you're my favorite work of art. All right. So let's go over that. Well now Valentine , mostly when people hear Valentine you know, we think of it in regard to Valentine's Day. So it means someone's Valentine is a person you give a Valentine present to on Valentine's Day. So for the man, the woman is the Valentine, for the woman the man is the Valentine. We can also refer to the card or the gift on Valentine's Day as a Valentine. So you know, did you get a Valentine this year ? Even though to be honest with you I think it's really mostly men that give to women. We have heard in certain countries like in Japan, I know there's a Valentine's Day where women have to buy men chocolate too. But in most cases it's really the guy is the one that has to come up with the gifts , the presents , the chocolates, the hearts, the flowers, whatever. Okay. Let's continue here. So we say my funny valentine. Sweet comic valentine. All right. Sweet so if we say someone is sweet he or she makes you have a pleasant feeling, usually because they are kind , gentle or nice to be with. Yeah. Basically, Then we say somebody is really sweet. You know, your daughter is sweet. He's a sweet man. She's a sweet woman. Okay. Sweet comic. Comic really just means funny. So if we say sweet comic valentine. So maybe originally he was a funny guy. You make me smile with my heart. All right. so of course she, she loves him. Basically, she feels good you know, her heart feels good maybe when he's around. Your looks are laughable. I'm not quite sure this one's a compliment. Laughable could mean very silly or causing someone to laugh. Yes. So you say your looks are laughable. So I'm not quite sure that's a compliment. They're unphotographable. Well. Unphotographable could have a couple of meanings. First it could mean unworthy of a photograph. Maybe, maybe he's not really all that handsome of a guy. Or very difficult to catch in a photo too, So sometimes we mean that too, That's something could be unphotographable. You just can't quite catch it right. You can't right catch the quality that you wanted to catch in the photograph. In that sense it could be unphotograblable. Okay. Even though, here maybe she does mean that he's not that attractive. I don't know. Unphotographable. Yet you're my favorite work of art. Well obviously she loves him. Even again but this kind of idea is going throughout the song . That even though, he's not perfect. He's still kind of perfect to her. You know or vice versa. If this is a guy singing about a girl. You're my favorite work of art. So you know, you you look perfect to me basically. Is your figure ... All right. So this is the next part. Is your figure less than Greek ? Is your mouth a little weak ? When you open it to speak are you smart ? All right. So let's go on. Figure, figure mean shape. You know, is your figure less than Greek ? All right. Figure meaning like the shape of somebody's body. So maybe he doesn't have the perfect body either. I don't know is your figure less than Greek ? All right Greek. Greek you know,, of relating to ancient or modern Greece its people or its language. Probably this line is probably thinking of like you know the old Greek art , you know , maybe like Adonis or something. Somebody some statue of some muscular sort of a guy. So I think she means it in that sense. That you know, your figure is less than Greek. So it's kind of a nice way of saying you don't probably have that good a figure. It's less than you know, perfect you know, muscular Adonis, you know, maybe Hercules or something. Something along that line. So is your figure less than Greek ? Is your mouth a little weak ? All right. Weak, a weak facial feature we might say this is small and suggests poor character. Yeah we might often say like somebody could have a weak chin. For example, if you have a weak chin it's kind of like your chin just kind of disappears some people might have a chin like that it just kind of disappears and goes in really quickly. Here they say mouth. She's probably means more like lips maybe he has small lips. Maybe she doesn't think that's really you know very desirable. But yet again, she still loves him. Is your mouth a little weak ? Well just like we said here. The original one. There she's pointing out his flaws. Is your mouth a little weak ? When you open it to speak. Are you smart ? Oh I don't know that she needs a question that ? She questions she might still be teasing him here. Are you smart ? But anyway, but no matter all of this stuff. We go to the next verse and she says, but don't change a hair for me. Not if you care for me. Stay my little Valentine's stay. Because each day is Valentine's Day. All right. So don't change a hair for me. Just like we say here. Don't change hair for me means don't change anything at all. A hair , only one little hair you if you don't want to change that. It means you want don't want to change anything. So even though you have a lot of these flaws. In my eyes, you're still perfect the way you are. .Don't change anything So don't change a hair for me. Not if you care for me, meaning you know , because you know I love you just the way you are. If you change you know, it may not be the same. Stay my little Valentine's stay. Because each day is Valentine's Day. I guess she's trying to say that you know maybe he makes her feel like every day is Valentine's Day. Because you know a lot of course Valentine's Day supposed to be a special day, especially for women. You know, getting gifts and maybe a man is supposed to show his love for women on that day. But again , so anyway after that they both, they basically just repeat the two different choruses again. So there's really no more new vocabulary. They just repeat you know, is your figure less than Greek ? Is your mouth a little weak ? So it repeats like those sort of choruses and then it also repeats again you know, but don't change a hair for me. So that's pretty much it. With the lyrics, but again this is kind of a it's , it's a classic song. Sung by a lot of people and it's really it's kind of a perfect Valentine's Day song too. So anyway, I hope you got it. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
