  • drums beat is a champion motorcycle racer who lives life in the fast lane

  • mr. however Sharon is been shown the more relaxed chilled out pace of life

  • here yeah fun Taiwan just keep surprising me every day with new things

  • to do the artwork that I'm adding so one just really quite beautiful that a

  • experience as I just didn't even know I was going to have I love it there's

  • nothing or something that I don't love it's been beautiful this is the

  • opportunity of a lifetime

  • if you are a Haiti person - once you have the floods in time both in the

  • mountains and be close to the sea you should be doing what dreams me and I are

  • doing right now are we making you jealous I mean the clear blue skies

  • lighting valley rise and the chill up atmosphere we couldn't ask for more as

  • well

  • when I first found out that I was going to be riding a motorcycle around Taiwan

  • I was very happy very excited because it's definitely a way that I like to see

  • be me anywhere because on a motorcycle you just have such a bit of fishing you

  • can look around here you're it more part of the environment and I feel definitely

  • comfortable on a motorcycle and have more fun

  • as you can see this place is like rice fields yes

  • and like Scarecrow and all the artworks yes so actually this is an area where

  • the it's another tribe they're called the cover line tribe oh yeah and they

  • migrate it over here and they like have reminiscent of home you know that's why

  • they started plantation all the rice fields are brought by them okay yeah so

  • they set up a new home here Lucas and this water buffalo it's essential for

  • our culture because they helped us grow like egg without agriculture yeah okay

  • so some people don't eat beef good people

  • I guess vast places like Corleone do help you clear your mind and concentrate

  • more when it comes to creating art this place where we're going later uses local

  • materials and creative works that have profound meanings

  • so you actually Genet recommended me to come like take you come to the because

  • they have like so much I work here and they have the spirits of pomian because

  • they use three materials as you can see obviously stone and wood and the metal

  • especially copper okay I love it I really loved it there was you know a lot

  • of focus on the feet in the eyes and I love the the aged look to the copper to

  • you know it turns this really nice color as it ages but the artwork had such

  • complexity to it you know and there's all these other they're creatures you

  • know and some things even reminded me of kangaroos I mean there was all sorts of

  • things that you could see in this artwork different people will see

  • different things but everyone will get something out of that oh so this is the

  • artists oh great so do you want to meet the artist oh yeah that'd be great

  • come on up it's over yeah yeah I like that woman Paola I talk I know you say

  • oh man come on since I only Sonya mr. Hall talking song the hook half a dog oh

  • so like the master he passed away uh-huh but unfortunately but Christian

  • Buddha don't he go ahead to follow chalice yeah you know when she said was

  • you that highlights - I know she she had artwork oh yeah know that nice I'm going

  • so vertical dose it oh wow it's spread it out this place you

  • see all the tools you know and this is rich collection no line a larger tank

  • Kings on their jaw CSF mahaganesha isn't it none advancing that so yourself okay

  • so the process of making our art today was first of all a bit of a mystery

  • we just had all these pieces to start with and I had no idea what it was going

  • to be and we started by drilling the rock which was straightaway one of the

  • funnest parts of it where we had a water-cooled drill bit into the rock and

  • the drill drill down and not all the way through then we take the copper tube we

  • work out the length that we want we've cut it with a circular saw to finish it

  • off so that will fit into the rock I guess is the stand and in our our

  • taxable art piece is a fish you're really cool I guess angelfish shape and

  • then we also had to make the eyes of the fish which is actually quite a hard

  • decision to make deciding which direction the fish is

  • going to look in well I put one direction on my fish at one point and it

  • it made it look crazy and first thought I don't want a crazy fish I want a cute

  • fish so I had to work out how to do that and then we use an epoxy - two-part

  • epoxy to glue the whole thing together and so the whole process really only

  • took I guess half an hour to an hour and and what starts out it's just some

  • simple pieces ends up becoming something that really has a personality and looks

  • like actual art I have done something eerie and what have you done I have done

  • something a bit more traditional but this is what I wanted I really loved

  • that it's a very happy fish this is it and

  • here I love it thank you very much yeah miss you on paper don't open so hard I

  • came we can have everything like in our daily lives get the wood get the stain

  • it's a very real piece about this is very much part of nature and I love it

  • it's part of this area right here exactly now cheers to our teacher so I'm

  • really happy to bring this home to Australia with me because I'll be able

  • to tell that story you know it's not just gonna be something you see it'll be

  • a story behind that for anyone who sees it whether they want to hear it or not

  • I'm nervous and excited because I've never been overseas before I only speak

  • English so already I'm worried about the language but I tried to learn some

  • Chinese but it's really hard I know only three or four words it's very hard

  • what do I want to buy here I want to buy a helmet yes so I can ride a bike here

  • you know that would be great because I see that everyone drives on the other

  • side of the road here so that would be fun to ride around and every ride on the

  • wrong side so that's the first thing I want to buy I mean I've got a hundred

  • thousand NT dollars you know you Taiwan dollars a hundred thousand so I should

  • be able to buy the best helmet I think you know the best helmet that Taiwan can

  • make but that's what I want damn you're good yeah very good thank

  • you what are you thinking getting a helmet

  • before you have a motorbike

  • hi lady arriving I wish all my entrances are like this nice to meet you more

  • specifically welcome to the east coast of Taiwan very nice it is one of my

  • favorite parts of Taiwan and for this reason it's beautiful

  • you know it's actually a little bit like the sunshine coast of Australia you have

  • the ocean on one side and then you have these beautiful mountains that just come

  • right into the ocean yes it's nice and I love the dark blue line is just there

  • like deep water yeah yeah yeah okay so we're excited to have you here in Taiwan

  • this is your first time ever you leave the country

  • that's right first time out of Australia Wow difference it is it is and we have a

  • lot of fun for you sharing it's gonna be taking you around and we thought since

  • you know you know your way on two wheels we're gonna give you this by pagelets

  • and also a hundred thousand NT dollars to spend however you wish you're already

  • getting your foot on the ground well this is you this is real and thank you

  • so much what about you like don't worry about me

  • built edit that in later

  • this is my ride

  • right

  • now we're gonna make something that might come in handy for our trip sunny

  • days you know

  • okay see this place you can see all the the works are with like leather artworks

  • oh good look at the patterns because this place is about like Aboriginal

  • culture oh good and so this is the the same sort of Pacific island people that

  • went all through the world and the the language you know that the tribe you

  • have in Australia Aboriginal probably have the same roots yeah you can see the

  • other cultures of the Pacific Islands around the world in this you know but

  • it's still completely unique as well some of the the symbols are just things

  • that I've never seen before it is so unique he says hey look it's all there

  • yes holman help me out there how it goes all that's all tongue take your tool

  • turn how do you see you got new yen mm-hmm nah take a detour

  • oh this is hot I'm Jack has it you one time baby I just won nice to see you

  • good to me only my parents tickets between the chanson know I got Union s

  • Virginia Beach audition so my weave tomorrow Italia Josh's new tumbled or

  • wanton lady huh nice how you want it quiet today it'll mainly - Anton how's

  • it about what Kate you want you always do you oh wow that facial tattoos in

  • cult is pretty uncommon any other one that I'm really aware of is the Maori

  • culture I'm gonna have those sort of circular patterns that they do as well

  • but to me it's it's kind of shocking to think of facial tattoos but of course

  • for them it's part of life what the fun part is we get to make something

  • actually make something what you want to make okay do you want an easy one oh

  • good I pick an easy way so yeah well we we start off with a piece of natural

  • untreated liver and it's harder than it looks because it was so hard for me to

  • be accurate even when I took my time and I was really slow and I am other thing

  • and wouldn't get quite exactly the way I thought it would

  • so that there's a lot of work in it but it was a lot of fun you know just eating

  • things and making art with them with a hammer

  • it doesn't get better than that so that part was definitely the best for me

  • alright Grimsby tell your story okay well my story is it's not a very

  • pictorial story but as you can see it's the story of falling in love with my

  • girlfriend simple and easy yet and I'm yeah so this is like since you're from

  • Australia so you know it kind of looks like a koala does it does it absolutely

  • that's okay well let's do the dyeing okay okay the dyeing is harder so when

  • you're finished hammering you have to to get choose your color or colors if you

  • have one and then carefully and that's the hard part they carefully and evenly

  • rub that into the leather for me it just went on really thick at the start and

  • then everything quickly yeah winter nothing so I slowly kept building up

  • layers then when you finally finish between the color on then there's like a

  • fixer a sealant that goes on top and it's quite good too when you put that

  • sealant on it goes from looking like this kind of homemade thing you know

  • this like kind of craft so an actual product that was like magic it was just

  • rubbing on a magical you know layer of professional hair so I mean mine looked

  • so much better than I thought it would thank you this is very fashionable now

  • we are ready to travel with our sunglasses as our gear that's right

  • let's do it

  • after a long day it's time for us to treat ourselves to a fine-dining travel

  • like the local and eat like a local tonight's on me

  • as you know this is your first official meal dinner here in Taiwan so you're a

  • vegetarian and a vegan that's right so this is what is special

  • about it it's that it's all local food Oh which one I want to try I really want

  • to try this car never seen the corn okay does that say that's a whole new told

  • Shammi Ananda okay it's it so does it go on that oh yeah you expect

  • them to be fibrous no it's not it's really easy to chew it bite me

  • what I'm think obj sorry chance look up I can challenge it then they apparently

  • messed with my mind being oh then think of a second it's so colourful inside

  • retreat I said be true you're gonna be rude

  • good guess mushrooms mood I think something else okay

  • I think yes but a net but it's really nice it's some Lotus oh this murders

  • yeah well okay I've had the Lotus chips before and the Lotus trip juice so she

  • chopped it and it's all like it hi wow this is lettuce truth that is really

  • good I hear amazing cool I think we should try the soup first

  • because she doesn't want to tell us what it is

  • mm-hmm okay so she the way down there

  • by lowball radish so this is rubbish this is mad I also put a Ming I achieve

  • had it just nigga your nigga young poor he's always young little bothers you

  • don't hit today I'm sure with horns I don't know how I downed or the know your

  • was y'all that y'all do or we all yell for they also should that now is how you

  • shower your yards yeah yeah this is perfect the the radish soup I that was a

  • type of radish I guess that I've never tasted you know the radish in Australia

  • that I eat which I like it tastes completely different I'm enjoying the

  • meal tonight as I was saying before I thought that I would eat well until I

  • won but I didn't know it would be this good this is so good it's just this meal

  • if you need to chair we need to come back here oh we have to come back this

  • is so good can I become Taiwanese you know in a

  • week I don't want to leave this food behind I didn't know what to expect from

  • food in Taiwan you know and there's so much variety here and it's such high

  • quality you can taste the freshness you know you can taste the the quality

  • of the cooking it's not just different flavors it's that the food that's gone

  • into it the raw vegetables and ingredients are so nice and that comes

  • through in the flavor and the food

  • looks good and sing back yeah yeah yeah this is the only one and you know

  • actually like this is quite a high peak as you know we were like yeah yeah yeah

  • salt very muggy and if we were lucky we'll get to see the Sun sunrise yeah

  • and there's a Pacific Ocean yeah the fog is there we might not see the ocean

  • of course like when there's fog you know yeah Sarah hi Neil let me go again to

  • say what do you expect I have no idea I have no idea

  • well yes that would be great yes yeah so you know if we're lucky enough tomorrow

  • will either see the Sun Rise or will just see the ocean yeah okay really have

  • we get to see the Sun Rise from up here in the mountains but yeah I mean we'll

  • still see some nice colors yeah you know it'd still be good we gotta see the

  • ocean yeah

  • what have you and you do get to enjoy it all that right yeah oh you're yes that

  • is nice this is my first sunrise in the northern hemisphere that sound sir yeah

  • and it it feels like that too and just perfect layer of clouds on the horizon

  • and the Sun lighting the clouds from underneath and slowly changing color

  • it's just amazing it's something amazing anywhere in the world thousands of

  • kilometres from home but it still feels a little bit like home as well like a

  • connection through nature I guess

  • to make the most of waking up so early I'm taking him to Oh her to experience

  • our tea culture and maybe have a cuppa Joe this is a shock and drums beat just

  • fall out Sauron and today we've brought you to this area you know it's open

  • space and it's a cheese ball obviously yeah can you recognize this chief I

  • didn't know that that's what I look like it all had no idea I knew no small plans

  • but I didn't know they were like that

  • when we first came across the the tea plantation here it was like we just come

  • to an oasis you know where we're hearing these fairly extreme mountains really

  • you know like nothing that I've ever seen before

  • steep rock and then we come around a corner and just instantly it's this

  • beautiful tea plants with these palm trees you know lined up between quite an

  • amazing change of scenery and what's special about like what he's

  • doing is this let's just do it yeah and I didn't know it was it was even

  • possible to you know stuff anything into a fruit and then keep it that way for

  • you know for years let alone weeks Wow yeah we had a process of tying a string

  • around the lemon there to keep people in which was a little bit hard to do but I

  • guess you just have to be accurate and keep holding the string tight and

  • following the instructions correctly which is a hard thing for me sometimes

  • but I managed to deal with that the major mishaps

  • take a little bit okay so pick it up in two years

  • yeah now I don't have to wait two years to taste Betty

  • it's such a small amount of time right things on your table etiquette off

  • because this plays its famous for them honey Black Sea oh honey black tea so it

  • tastes like honey to you yeah I can still smell the tea on my hand and I

  • can't stop smelling it this is addictive this is such a nice smell if it was up

  • to me I wouldn't wash my hands for a month because this is the nicest smell

  • this is such a beautiful smell my hands have never smelled this good it's

  • different kind of chilly in here top you take it to the county about the meteor

  • haunts I know it's a cat the hearts he just immature it's their goats ooh

  • yes kind of our issue talking she encounters huggy show him don't hide

  • your hearts huh the color is so beautiful

  • so nice just one is with like long T yeah I thought I texted that okay uh

  • yeah do you like tea I love tea

  • yeah I think a lot of tea mr. Yong so if it's intention just if I shout to I say

  • I own my own people it's on your support situations so this one is the honey

  • black tea honey Blackfeet

  • I like this even warm they're both great this one's really really good I would

  • say this one is a is a tender lady yes yes and this one is a Greenfield okay

  • it's like this it reminds me of that you know it's a rich tea feel I can taste I

  • can taste the nutrients that came through the soil and came into this plan

  • this is beautiful tea that's the best tea I've ever had this

  • is an amazing tea this is much different than the commercial tea I like tea I

  • drink tea a lot at home good quality teas but they're not like this this was

  • a very special tea

  • please enter oh cool and what is cool about this place it's actually there but

  • take a look around these walls yeah it's great

  • it looks like the marbles here actually in like it's built into a map so that

  • they carve a piece of melon yeah it's really nice I love this Friday okay

  • tomorrow when you have time or maybe at night yeah there is the hot spring you

  • would get to enjoy oh and actually if you hear closely he will be enjoying the

  • aboriginal tribes all yeah

  • I know I know you want to have another hot girl riding coolie and discover

  • title with you well have a good one so on my free day I woke up in the hot

  • springs hotel nice just makes me want to live in the mountains and it felt so

  • good the water was it's not like crystal

  • clear there's actually a bit of a murky list of the water but it's from all the

  • minerals that are in and then you can smell the minerals and it just it's not

  • like the rock just to need to melt like mountain rocks this is a natural rock

  • water bath I wanted to stay there all day but I couldn't so after the hot

  • springs on my free day went off to buy some tea this we've had the honey black

  • tea and I just loved it so much I had to get something and because I was just so

  • into his tea he had so much knowledge about the tea and the preparation of the

  • tea there was all these steps and I didn't even understand half of these

  • tipping hot water from this thing into that being and slowly somehow magical

  • beautifully colored tea arrived and even the first tea that I tasted was so nice

  • it's amazing too so I had to have some so I actually bought the best tea that

  • they had been I think I'll take 115 grams of this and it was expensive but

  • it was so worth it thank you very much Jesse so for lunch

  • after the tea I went to a restaurant me now please and the owner of the

  • restaurant who was such a nice guy he didn't speak any English apart from

  • pretty much hello and something else that I can't remember nor English so I

  • had to choose my meal by pretty much pointing to a picture on the wall

  • I had a few options but I saw this curry and I haven't had a curry yet here in

  • Taiwan so I ordered to carry really good good and then the funniest thing was he

  • he brought me at his homemade tofu which was in my meal which was so good I mean

  • the tofu was the standout part and he needed to tell me that it was spicy

  • we're typing into translators and he and the translator says hot girl so this

  • thing is telling me yeah hot girl hot girl in there and I knew what he meant

  • that there was there was spice in there in the tofu but I was so funny and

  • brings me little to the name thought

  • you know have I bought my hot girl tofu I bought my mochi and my black rice

  • organic black rice and traveling alone in Taiwan in my free day was a little

  • daunting but nothing went wrong in fact it was a great day had a great time on

  • my own it really it was great I mean pointing and being friendly you know

  • it's all I need people are so friendly here in Taiwan there's nothing to worry

  • about so if anyone's thinking about traveling alone in Taiwan it's it's so

  • easy to do it's so safe be braver than me basically it's very easy

  • since on is best known for its rice patties and anything made out of the

  • rice here is guaranteed to be loved

  • yeah this is a traditional Hakka house and you see this platform here this is

  • where they used to like if their grains or rice they need to dry so there was

  • old we've got gathering here but I'll show you something answer what's waiting

  • for us I love it I've seen so much I've done so much I feel like I'm really

  • getting to know Taiwan experience so today we want to introduce to you all

  • your way here I don't know if you saw it is beautiful right yeah absolutely

  • couldn't miss him yes this area is very very famous for

  • some of the best rice you can find she's going to teach us how to make a few rice

  • dishes we started out with the rice grains which are really nice rice grain

  • - they're very short very white almost clear and once they wash they get ground

  • into a flour type of a paste and we put them in hot water and we put the flour

  • in a big wok a gigantic aluminium wok and this is the process for us to get it

  • into a mug dough like a doughy like texture thing huh

  • that's quick yeah it's a happy I would love to have a walk warm either okay

  • make sure you get all of the base because otherwise that's gonna burn then

  • that mixture is rinsed again as a whole each processes seems to be followed by a

  • rinsing or washing episode Johnny our did that send yankin so it's yeah we all

  • foot though you make a sign all that okay yeah it anything right then she

  • know and then once that's that's rinsed and and washed they mix it into a

  • thicker piece with more water okay taking ibuprofen no sometimes a meter

  • Wow cute oh Allah give me time we'll have me vomits oh yeah Biggio in deity

  • cover as I have said and it's mixed with sweet potato flour which is very white

  • and said the whole thing still looks very why it's all very natural it's two

  • ingredients just rice and in the sweet potato flour and then that mixture when

  • it's when it's completely mixed properly

  • your milk to your teacher this is the real process of making the noodle yeah

  • hold up easy Bobby sit Bobby one time push yeah all the way so smooth dry the

  • noisiness we need them underneath okay so gonna plop there and then push me all

  • the way across yes so they need a face to push with your palm yeah but awesome

  • Christmas to make noodles come people making noodles this is great

  • yeah very sticky and then the noodles are done then you can eat them straight

  • away that's like a 30-second noodle try that one it's hot good

  • obviously the freshest noodle I've ever tasted yes I think it's about 30 seconds

  • old so yeah still taste the rice in it absolutely that is the fiber it is the

  • fiber but really cool

  • I literally ate a rice noodle that was 30 seconds old I mean that they just

  • doesn't get fresher than that and I've met it myself

  • that is so good and it's so fresh and it's just the perfect amount of

  • chewiness it was a word but I forget the word so finally we get to taste the

  • fruits of your labor the rice noodle if you don't mind I kind of chose a

  • location you know couldn't be better this is really nice yeah and we're

  • literally meters from where it was produced yes yes exactly exactly so this

  • is the meantime ooh and we have different ways of eating initially so

  • you can have it in the salsa form or into the hot soup or a dessert okay do

  • you want to try this is sweet sweet please yes so it's sweet and it's on the

  • cool side what do you think this is so good that the texture of these is disco

  • Dan it's just the right amount of resistance too chewy so we need to teach

  • you a phrase that we say here and all the time incident and Q come Julie yeah

  • the letter Q that and that is exactly the textures happy then I love punk you

  • so you like it right oh I love it this is so yeah I've had rice noodles

  • before but they didn't taste anything like the rice noodles we just made you

  • can actually taste the rice in it they taste like beautiful rice and they taste

  • like these fields look they taste like just nature that's just a simple and

  • very natural process we didn't even use electricity and it's great

  • if you want to immerse yourself into the vastness of this picturesque area get

  • off your speeding vehicle and hop on a bike I absolutely fell in love with this

  • this area right here writing advice because it's between two just huge

  • mountain ranges and it's this near perfectly flat field of rice paddies and

  • it's so green this is like something that I've only ever seen through a

  • screen and now I'm here actually in it I'm part of it it's it's amazing but

  • it's so nice and Taiwan really is such a biking like Mecca oh it's so good I love

  • something yeah you would love it here that you know you can go mountain biking

  • obviously in those hills yeah and then also just it's really least this like a

  • nice leisure activity as well yeah which brings me actually to a little mission

  • that I have for you fun and one by one I know you're vegetarian and as we can see

  • there's a lot of nutrients in the soil here and lot of farmers work the for

  • tilled soil we also have quinoa good excellent it like a superfood now yes

  • very popular and so my mission for you is I want you to become a quinoa farmer

  • here oh okay that would be great yeah I look forward to the cookie you know I'm

  • not sure about the cultivating jaren you're gonna have to taste it let me

  • know how

  • the feeling of riding a bicycle as opposed to riding a motorcycle it's very

  • different even though they're both bikes a bicycle you kind of a part of nature

  • in a bigger way you can feel the breeze you're going slow you're going slow

  • enough to enjoy it and another thing is that you don't have to concentrate on

  • what you're doing you know it's you can just ride along and just soak up the

  • beauty of it

  • what we're saying next is what people call Ruby in grains take a guess at what

  • it is

  • we're actually riding along the coasts I fell even more in love with this place

  • for me the perfect blend of nature of mountains and ocean the beautiful

  • Pacific and it looks very different here than it does in Australia because the

  • the shelf just drops off I can see the deep dark blue line just off the coast

  • here in the other thing is I can see the ocean from up so high yet be so close to

  • it because of these steep mountains there also they are romantic

  • they are picturesque they're like a postcard the Europeans

  • as we were riding into the into the village here we can see a fields of

  • quinoa here and there a plant that I've never seen before you know quinoa to me

  • was seeds in in packets in Australia I had no idea what the plant looks like

  • and it's so colorful it looks awesome I

  • said okay adrims be Tony when the futong I can have you seen one all right if you

  • want to come here because this is where all the parts are okay quinoa actually

  • arrives from from the bottom to the top

  • then when you've got the quinoa back in the village you have to go through a bit

  • of a process and the first one is to see me to pull of the the biggest leaves off

  • and then you start stripping the the quinoa itself which is that red then

  • yellow colorful product off the branches into a container so this is like a very

  • traditional way of how aboriginals they would like rush it this way using green

  • oh yeah this looks like the fountain and and you just it's like a gigantic pestle

  • and mortar and you just crush the the quinoa down and that releases the seeds

  • from the flowers you can do it with two people and there's a bit of a rhythm

  • that you have to get which is a bit hard to get it flowing but you know

  • and when you lift with is actual tama this is such a big difference of what we

  • are getting it's exactly what I recognize that I

  • pack itself in Australia the next process is actually to draw it like

  • sundry but you can't do that now so they prepared something and you see they're

  • cooking the vegetables any business of all me

  • just economy if you say ha holy pretty nicely smell of vegetables there I mean

  • I love once you go milk think y'all they're going through that's it that

  • this also there's a name for it because yeah it's a yellow there no component

  • you're Jon Lajoie y'all y'all fine you totally do that's all we thought

  • yeah we call this yeah we all fun its

  • collective shaking shaking shaking rice because you have to when you stir you

  • have to like all the time so now you do the second part that is to dancing in

  • some kind of way but I'm probably about the world's worst dancer nothing in the

  • top ten were world's worst dancer since oh I didn't do it I couldn't I don't

  • even know how to live in that way but I saw the local tribes women doing it and

  • it looks great

  • and also we had a singer from the tribe singing this song which was so it was so

  • good and it really matched the environment it matched what we were
