An ambulance chaser is a type of lawyer that goes out of their way to encourage people to sue, so they can profit from the lawsuit or sometimes they don't even want it to go to court they just want to settle for some money. And it's a way to you know get more business basically. So this is what we mean by an ambulance chaser. The implication is that they may even encourage frivolous lawsuits. Well a frivolous lawsuit is a lawsuit you think that it shouldn't have even been a lawsuit. It almost seems like a ridiculous lawsuit. You know, the typical one we always think about is the one with the lady that spilled the coffee on herself and sued McDonald's. That was just sort of a typical frivolous lawsuit. Even though she got money for that, but an ambulance chaser will do things like this. You know he'll, he'll encourage lawsuits that you know maybe they never really should have been a lawsuit. All right. Let's continue. Frivolous lawsuits are the type of lawsuits in which the injured person may not have even considered their injury or damage was serious enough for a lawsuit. Yeah. A lot of times you'll see this in movies where you know, they, they portray them in this sort of typical way somebody will have just a slight injury and the you know, an ambulance chaser will run up to them with their card. Oh here if you're thinking of suing you know, here, here's my card. Take it you know, Give me a call. Basically that's the way we often see it portrayed you know in movies or TV shows. All right. Let's continue. The origin of this term dates back to 1897 when attorneys you know a more formal name for lawyers sought clients through mail targeted ads. So they were actually mailing out ads you know try to encourage people to so to ,to . did you get injured ? You know maybe you we can get money for you for the lawsuit , or something like that. Ambulance chasers was the way the media started to refer to them. So as they were they almost seemed like they were going too much out of their way to try to get business. All right and let's look at a couple of examples here, You might hear this on the news. You know ambulance chasers end up raising the cost of health insurance because they cause more cases to be out there and more money to actually be paid. In the long run they do. They, they, they cause health insurance prices to go up. Okay and let's look at the second example here. Her husband got rich from being an ambulance chaser . Okay. That's the way you may hear it. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it's clear. Thank you for your time bye-bye.
