-It's perfect to kick off our fifth anniversary week.
-Congratulations on everything. -Thank you, buddy.
-Can you believe all that? -I can't believe it. No.
-That's unbelievable. It's so nice.
-It's you and Big Bird.
-Big Bird is the -- -That's the best.
-Loved Big Bird my entire life, like all of us.
Love Big -- he always used to make me happy in the morning.
-Yeah. -I like Bozo.
-Oh, Bozo the Clown was good. -Bozo the Clown. I liked one --
"Romper Room," I always wanted them to say my name,
"I see Adam." -I know. You --
-I never got that. - I never got that, yeah.
-But Jimmy, there was a show called "Uncle Gus"
when I was a kid in Manchester, New Hampshire.
So, it was a kids show. Yes. [ Cheers and applause ]
So, "Uncle Gus" was a show like all these
other kids shows, and I got to -- it was in my hometown.
I got to be a guest.
I was in the crowd cheering on Uncle Gus.
So Uncle Gus had this thing where he would
hold scrambled letters up.
He would put a thing up, five scrambled letters,
and if any of the kids could spell the word,
you win a stuffed animal.
So, I saw the five letters, I got very excited.
I was like, "Oh, my God, I know it."
I went up there, and I spelled "canoe."
And then Uncle Gus goes, "That is a word,
but that's not the word we're looking for."
[ Laughter ] And I went, "But that's a word."
And he goes, "Yeah, but not the one we're looking for."
I go, "Yeah, but it's a word." [ Laughter ]
And he goes, "I know it is. You keep saying that,
but that's not the word we were looking for."
Anyways, this boy comes up after, and he's kind of cocky,
and he spells "Ocean."
And he wins the stuffed animal,
and my mother on the way home said,
"I'll get you McDonald's." And --
[ Laughter ] -Oh, really?
So you got cheeseburgers out of the thing?
-Two cheeseburgers a French fry any time I wanted.
-That's not bad. I mean, you ever wonder
what happened to that boy?
-Unfortunately, I thought, you know,
I went on to do great things, and he'd have to look at that,
and be disgusted, but, uh... [ Laughter ]
...it was Bono. It was Bono. I couldn't believe it.
[ Laughter ]
Hee-haw!
-That was funny. Pal, congrats on this.
I want to talk about this Netflix special.
[ Cheers and applause ] Everyone love -- I loved it.
-Thank you. -Everyone loved it,
but you have a movie coming out
this summer on Netflix. -Yes.
-With the great Jennifer Aniston.
-Jennifer Aniston's birthday today.
-Is it really? -Yeah, yeah.
-Happy birthday Jennifer Aniston!
Is that right? -The best.
Yeah, she's a great girl.
We made a movie this summer in Italy.
And she -- speaking of nice.
Like, she's so nice.
She was so nice to my family and my two kids.
Literally, she was so great with Sadie and Sunny.
They were always in her room hanging out late at night.
She'd work all day long, and then --
and Sadie and Sunny would go, we're going to go see Jen.
And I would -- they'd go up there,
and then I went up there one night.
And I said, "Where's the little one?" to Jen.
She goes, "Oh, she's in the bathroom."
And I go -- and then I talked to the kids, and I go,
"You can hang out with her.
Don't crap in her bathroom, though."
[ Laughter ]
"She's Jennifer Aniston. Leave her alone."
-Oh, my gosh. Really.
-"Bring that back down to our room."
[ Laughter ]
-Come on. It's called "Murder Mystery," though. Right?
-"Murder Mystery." Yeah, it's coming out in the summertime.
Jennifer's great in it. I'm in it, too.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Thank you. -This thing.
I did not know this was coming out.
I did not know you were going to release this thing.
-Yeah, I didn't know -- Yeah. It's cool.
They made an album from the Netflix special.
It's cool. That's a nice -- It looks good.
-Yeah, yeah, I mean. -Yeah.
[ Cheers and applause ]
-But even the special, I didn't know the special
was coming out. -Oh, yeah.
-And then I saw that, oh, Adam Sandler is releasing
his standup special. I go -- -Yeah.
-"I love Adam Sandler." -Oh, yeah.
-You know I love you, but -- -You used to come see me
when we were young. Yeah, yeah.
-Oh, please no, I mean I know all your bits backwards
and forwards, man. -Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
-I was like -- I freaked out.
I probably watched it four times.
-You did? -Yeah, cause I loved it.
-Ah, you're -- -There's so many good bits.
-Quest, Quest was saying the same.
-I got a text from Questlove, he's like,
"Have you seen Sandler's thing? It's unbelievable."
-Thank you. I appreciate it. -The way you shot it was great.
You did different like little comedy clubs
to giant arenas.
-Yeah, that was the fun time, man.
It felt great to -- I'm happy,
and thank you for saying good stuff,
and I had the best time making it, and you know,
I stopped doing standup for so long.
And then I got excited again to do it, and it was cool.
-But that's where I know you from.
I know you from standup,
and then into "Saturday Night Live."
-Yeah. -But I got to say,
there's so many funny things in this, you will cry laughing.
But then it also tugs at the heartstrings a little bit.
-Sure, yeah, yeah. -When you sing the song --
a tribute to Chris Farley. -Right, yeah.
-It's just beautiful, and -- -I do a song for Farley,
and the crowds. I mean -- I just did a week tour,
I was all around the country,
and every night I sing the Farley song, the people
just respond so great, because everybody loves the guy.
I loved the guy. He was such a good guy.
-But it's funny, but also it's true.
I mean, is that thing about the Walkman true?
-Yes. I sing in the Chris Farley song,
I talk about it, 'cause we used to share an office,
and I talk about how I walked in one time,
and he had a Walkman on, and he was facing that way.
And then I said, "Hey, hey, hey."
And he turned around, he looked up at me,
and his eyes were filled with tears.
And I was like, "Oh, man, what's going on?"
I said, "What's happening? What are you doing?
What are you listening to?" And he goes...
"KC and The Suns--
[ Laughter ] KC and The Sunshine Band."
And I go, "Okay, that got you upset?
That upset? [ Laughter ]
and I didn't expect -- -Who cries?
-I know, usually I dance to KC and The Sunshine Band.
-Everyone does. Yeah.
-But he said it reminded him of his father,
and it made him emotional.
Anyways, but he was so funny.
He just started laughing uncontrollably
after the fact that I caught him crying about his dad.
[ Laughter ]
-What was he like to be in a sketch with?
-He was the best. You knew, like Farley in a skit,
was -- you knew, first of all, you knew it was going to kill
because Farley was in it.
So you just felt this great confidence.
So, like Farley's -- the audience loved him
so much, that it was just a different energy
when you're in the audience, and he --
and I remember this one skit we did, though,
he was in the "Pepper Boy" skit that Steve Koren wrote.
And I think he was shooting "Tommy Boy"
or something at the same time. And then he would fly
back and forth from L.A. to New York.
And I think he only had one line in the "Pepper Boy" skit.
And he was so angry that he had to fly,
and he was in one of his crazy Farley moods.
-Yeah. -And he was going,
"I can't believe I got one line."
And I go, "It's going to be all right, man."
He's like, "I'm going to make you laugh though Adsy.
I'm going to make you laugh. I promise you."
And I go, "Oh, okay. D-Don't do that."
He goes, "Oh, I'm going to do it,"
like, he was very angry about it.
[ Laughter ] And then --
-His goal is to make you laugh.
-Yeah, "I'm going to make you laugh.
You're going to break character."
Blah, blah, blah. And then he --
I think I say, "Hey, you want some fresh-a pepper?"
or something, and then he turns around crazy cross-eyed.
He goes, "Why, no, Pepper Boy!!"
Like that -- I just -- -Dude, I totally remember that.
[ Laughter ] -Yeah, yeah, yeah.
-That's the perfect amount of pepper!
-Oh, that's right. That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
-And he went for it, and made it cross-eyed and everything?
-And he cross-eyed me, yeah. -Oh, my gosh.
It's such a great special, and so cool, and well-directed,
and well-written, and performed.
And I read somewhere that the guitar you play
was one of your original guitars?
-Yeah, that guitar is a guitar that my dad got me
when I was young.
So what happened was I had --
my father used to play like acoustic guitar in the house.
And he would play old cowboy tunes,
and, like, "House of the Rising Sun,"
and kind of folk tunes,
and then he taught me the chords,
and then I said I want to get an electric guitar.
I want to be cool, Dad. I want to be in a rock band,
and all that stuff, and he said --
I saw this Stratocaster at this place
called Ted Herbert's downtown.
I was like, I want to get a Stratocaster, and he goes --
and it was like, you know, $350 bucks or something.
And he said, "Well, I can't just give you that.
That's a lot of money.
If you learn how to play "Malagueña," which was this --
like a Spanish classical tune.
If you learn it note for note, then I'll get it for you.
And I would go by and play it for him.
And he'd be like, nope. Nope. Nope. Not yet.
Nah. And it took a couple years to get it good,
but I got it close enough where he got me the Strat.
-He did? -Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
-Well, I just happen to have a --
-I know.
-Come on. Could you? Do you remember any of it?
-I -- -Would you?
-I will try. I will try.
-You will? Alright. -Yes.
-Malagueña? -Malagueña.
Alright, I can't guarantee nothing.
Here we go.
[ Guitar playing ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
Okay.
-iándale! -iándale! Here we go.
[ Guitar playing "Malagueña" ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
-Yeah! What?!
Stop it, man!
Yo!
