Jingliao Holy Cross Church 菁寮天主堂

was ranked 23rd in the 在2001年的臺灣歷史百景建築徵選中

Taiwan Top 100 Views of Historical Buildings in 2001! 被票選為第23名喔

It's a very special architecture. 這裡的建築很特別

It has a conical roof. 是圓錐屋頂喔

As it's situated next to the paddy fields in Houbi, 搭配後壁的稻田

the church looks just like a castle in the village! 看起來就像是農村裡的城堡喔！

Here at Jinliao Elementary School, 菁寮國小

although it's not a big school, 雖然不是一間大學校

it contains a historical Japanese auditorium and the office. 但這裡還保存著日治時期留下的禮堂和辦公室

I believe as we visit all these places, 在這邊走走逛逛

we can learn a lot about the culture and the stories around here. 一定會對當地的文化和在地故事有更多的瞭解

As for the outside, 外面這裡

there are two things that are worth mentioning. 有兩點非常值得一提

One, you can see on the outside, this is a clapboard siding. 第一點就是外牆上的護牆板

The clapboard siding is a famous and special feature 護牆板這個特色非常有名而且很特別

that is very often used in a Japanese architecture. 在日式建築中常會看見

Also, this special feature has two different kinds of functions. 護牆板主要有兩個功用

First, to be waterproof, 一是為了防水

and also it can block out a lot of sunlight. 二是阻擋大部分的日曬

The second thing that is worth mentioning is the timber here. 另外非常值得一提的一點就是這些桁樑斜撐木

The timber here is to support this spacious auditorium. 桁樑斜撐木撐扶著整個禮堂

Because it's too spacious and too wide, 因為禮堂面積太過寬敞

they have to use this timber to support it so that 必須使用木頭支架

it doesn't collapse or break down. 避免倒塌或解體

This auditorium has two things that are worth mentioning. 這個禮堂有兩大特色非常值得一提

One thing that is worth mentioning is the roof above me. 第一點就是我上方的屋頂

You can see that they capped the wooden structure 我們可以看見屋頂和木造結構是一體的

instead of adding another roof to cover all these wooden structures. 而不是在木造建築上另外加蓋一個屋頂

Another thing worth mentioning is the stage behind me. 第二點則是我身後的舞台

It's so cute! 真的超可愛的！

It's tiny but believe the kids can still run or dance 雖然舞台很小 但想必孩子們一定可以在上面又跑又跳

or do whatever they want on the stage. 或是做任何想做的事情

I'm the chairman of Shi-an Community Cooperative. 我是仕安社區合作社的理事長

You can call me A-liang. 我叫阿諒

Could you please introduce the best place 可以請您介紹一下社區裡

to tour around the community? 有什麼推薦的景點嗎？

In Shi-an Community, 我們仕安社區

we have the first signal transmitter station in Taiwan. 有全臺灣第一個信號轉運站

With the help of the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, 經過水保局協助我們建設

we are able to recover the railway tradition in early days. 我們恢復早期鐵路文化

We've also worked with local youngsters 還有結合我們

to develop the cultural creative industry. 在地青年的文創

In addition to promoting community tours, Shi-an Community 仕安社區除了推動社區旅行外

also encourage local farmers to get involved in the local industry. 也鼓勵在地農民共創社區經濟

In order to maintain a community, 要維持社區發展

it requires a lot of human labor and financial support. 需要投入大量人力和金錢

Also, this community has sensed the aging problem 同時，仕安社區也意識到高齡化社會

and also a lot of social problems, 以及其他許多社會問題正在發生

so they started to develop exquisite agriculture, or refined agriculture, 因而開始發展精緻農業

which produces more healthy products, 例如農產品營養價值變高

and is more eco-friendly to the land. 栽種過程對環境更友善

With the extra income, they can develop or enhance their social welfare, 這些額外的收入可以用來發展當地的社會福利措施

which can benefit the community. 進而嘉惠整個社區

They started to promote meal sharing, and community service vehicles 當地居民開始實行餐食共享並推動社區服務車

that can bring the elders to the doctors or pick up the medicine. 協助老人前往就醫或是領取藥品

The welfare measures vitalize the community 這些社福措施使得社區

and make their hometown a better place. 更活絡 、更宜居

I believe this whole project is a good cycle and a positive approach 我想整個社區活絡計畫是個良性 、正向的循環

to help the community become a better place. 可以讓社區變得更美好

As for this whole project, it's main core is about self-sufficiency. 而整個計畫的核心價值就在於達到自給自足

They don't have to rely on the government or any other people 當地居民不需仰賴政府或其他單位的協助

to help them revitalize the hometown. 也能讓家鄉重新活絡發展

However, they rely on themselves to make their place better. 他們靠著自己的力量讓家園變得更美好

And by the way, you can also go up there to the viewing deck 順道一提 ，大家還可以去前面的展望台

to really appreciate the view right here in Shi-an community. 欣賞仕安社區的在地美景喔

As we come to the hometown of rice, 來到米的故鄉

there is no way we can miss anything made of rice! 當然不能錯過任何米製品囉！

On this wall, they display all kinds of spices. 這面牆上展示各式各樣的香料

And the reason why they do this is they want to emphasize 當地人這麼做的原因是想強調

that everything they put into the dish is super natural 所有加入菜餚的食材都是純天然

and nothing is artificial. 不含人工添加物的

For example, this, black sesame. 就舉黑芝麻為例子

It can be made into all kinds of things, 黑芝麻可以做成許多產品

such as sesame oil, 例如麻油就是其中之一

or it can be spread onto some kinds of desserts. 另外，也可以灑一些在甜點上

This is a very nutritional and healthy thing. 黑芝麻營養價值高 而且有益非常健康

The dishes here are just amazing. 這裡的美食真的很厲害喔

They have a central kitchen 採用中央廚房的概念

and a specialized production line 及專業的生產線

And also steamed eggs, some pork, pork knuckles, and milkfish. 另外還有蒸蛋 、豬肉 、腿庫和虱目魚

Milkfish is also a very famous local dish in Tainan City. 虱目魚是臺南非常有名的在地小吃

Here we not only have delicious lunch boxes 這裡不只便當好吃

but also fun places to go to! 又好玩！

We are now in Houbi. 我們今天來到後壁

Houbi is not only a good place to have a meal, 後壁不只是吃飯的好去處

but also a good place to experience indigo dyeing! 同時也可以體驗藍染喔！

What is indigo dyeing? 藍染是什麼呢？

Let's go ask and experience it! 讓我們一起去問一問 瞧一瞧！

Welcome to Molin Museum. 歡迎來到墨林文物館

Teacher Hung, can you introduce what can we experience here? 洪老師 可以跟大家介紹一下這裡嗎？

In the museum, 我們文物館裡面

you can see two types of work that were once lost. 把我們社區失落的兩種產業找回來

Women in the community work at here, 社區媽媽也會在這裡工作

and make some products, 做他們的作品

and sell them in the exhibition area. 在這個空間裡展售

Their products include indigo dyeing and rush products. 作品有藍染和藺草的編織

There are so many indigo dyeing products. 這裡有好多藍染的作品啊

Eva, let's make one by ourselves! Eva快來體驗吧！

Indigo dye is a kind of plant dye. 藍染它是植物染

It's a cold dyeing technique. 它也是冷染

First, prepare a piece of cotton fabric, 先準備棉質的染布

and then bundle the piece of fabric 再用線捆綁出

so that it becomes a random shape. 不規則造型

First, we will put it in the water 首先 我們把棉布放入染劑中

so it can absorb the indigo dye very well. 讓棉布充分吸收藍染

And then, we will put it into the indigo dye again 接下來 將棉布放入藍染中

for about 5 minutes. 浸泡5分鐘

Next, we repeat the procedure for another 4 minutes, 接著4分鐘

and then another 3 minutes. 再3分鐘

When we put it into the indigo dye, we need to massage it. 布料浸置在藍染中時 需要不斷搓揉

Wow! So this plant is the resource in indigo dyeing. 哇！這就是藍染原料所使用的植物

This plant in Chinese is called xiaojing. 這種植物的中文叫作「小菁」

And in Taiwanese, it's called nibokceinah (the plant used for dyeing). 閩南台語稱為「染布青仔」

It's really cute! 真的超可愛的！

Look, its seed is like a mini banana! 看！這植物的種子就像是迷你香蕉一樣！

Now, it's my last time to put the fiber in the water. 現在 我要把染布最後一次放到染劑裡最後一次

And I have been doing the action for four times. 我已經重複這個步驟四次了

So I'm looking forward to my work. 所以真的非常期待看到成品

It's my baby! 這是我的寶貝！

My indigo dyeing baby! 我的藍染寶貝！

Woo~! Let's Go! 唷～！我們快來看看吧！

When we finish the sun dry, we are going to untie the strings. 染布曬乾後 就可以把棉繩剪開

You can use scissors to cut the strings. 我們可以用剪刀來剪斷棉繩

Wow! It's a chopsticks bag! 哇！是筷子袋！

After the chopsticks bag is dried under the sun, it's finished! 接下來晾乾就完成囉！
