Nowadays, each little detail is important.

Some of you probably remember the famous headphone mistake that was so commented on the internet a couple of years ago, and it was finally done right.

数年前、ネット上でコメントが殺到した有名なヘッドホンのミスを覚えている方もいらっしゃるかと思いますが、ついにそれが正されたのです。

But in several countries, some famous scenes from different animated films look quite different from the way they look in other countries.

しかし、いくつかの国では、さまざまなアニメ映画の有名なシーンが、他の国での見え方とまったく異なっています。

You might not know this, but people working in animated films love their work and their audience and sometimes change that film to include some important aspect of this or that culture.

あなたは知らないかもしれませんが、アニメーション映画に携わる人々は、自分たちの作品と観客を愛し、時にはその作品を変えて、この文化やあの文化の重要な側面を盛り込むこともあるのです。

So, here are five animated films that look different in other countries.

Many of you probably saw this film and enjoy the quality of even the most insignificant details of this zoo world.

この映画をご覧になった方は多いと思いますが、この動物園の世界の些細なディテールまでクオリティが高いので楽しめます。

So you probably remember the news show scene.

というわけで、ニュース番組のシーンを覚えている方も多いのではないでしょうか。

Two animals host a news show, and in America, Europe, Russia, and other countries, you can see a snow leopard and a moose.

2匹の動物がニュース番組の司会をするのですが、アメリカやヨーロッパ、ロシアなどでは、ユキヒョウやヘラジカを見ることができるのです。

But in China, for example, the moose is replaced by a panda, a symbol of China and the favorite animal of many Chinese people.

しかし、例えば中国では、ヘラジカの代わりに、中国の象徴であり、多くの中国人が好きな動物であるパンダが登場します。

In Japan, the film was also changed.

日本では、フィルムも変更されました。

Instead of a moose, you can see a tanuki, a small creature similar to a raccoon, which in Japan is a symbol of happiness or prosperity.

ヘラジカの代わりに、日本では幸福や繁栄の象徴とされる、タヌキに似た小さな生き物、タヌキを見ることができます。

And in Australia and New Zealand, one of the animals is a traditional koala.

また、オーストラリアやニュージーランドでは、伝統的なコアラという動物がいます。

Why not a kangaroo?

カンガルーじゃダメなんですか？

Maybe in the world of Zootopia, kangaroos are not very suitable for TV programs.

ズートピアの世界では、カンガルーはあまりテレビ番組には向いていないのかもしれませんね。

Inside Out

インサイド・アウト

In this awesome film, there's a scene where the main character has to eat broccoli, but she refuses point-blank to do it.

主人公がブロッコリーを食べるシーンがあるのですが、それを真っ向から拒否するすごい映画です。

And we probably understand why.

その理由がよくわかります。

Kids do not love to eat healthy food, and broccoli's one of the worst vegetables on the market.

子供たちは健康的な食べ物を好んで食べないし、ブロッコリーは市場でも最も悪い野菜の1つです。

Weirdly enough, there is something wrong with Japanese kids because they love broccoli.

奇妙なことに、日本の子供たちはブロッコリーが大好きなので、何か問題があるようです。

That's the reason why the filmmakers changed the broccoli for green peppers, which are generally considered disgusting among Japanese children.

ブロッコリーをピーマンに変えたのはそのためで、日本の子供たちの間では一般的に気持ち悪いとされています。

Understandable, given that it's very important for the kids to bond with the main character of the film.

子供たちが映画の主人公と絆を深めるためにとても重要なことだと考えれば理解できます。

Apart from the broccoli scene, there was another change in the film.

ブロッコリーのシーンとは別に、もう一つ映画の中で変化がありました。

There's a scene where Riley is watching soccer, the most popular sport in the world, but not in America.

ライリーがサッカーを観戦するシーンがあります。世界で最も人気のあるスポーツですが、アメリカではそうではありません。

In the U.S., soccer or football is by far not the most popular sport.

アメリカでは、サッカーやフットボールは圧倒的に人気のないスポーツなのです。

It's not Brazil, you know.

ブラジルじゃないんだからさ。

As the reason why, just like they did with Japan, the filmmakers changed the soccer scene for hockey scenes, a more important sport in the States.

その理由として、日本と同じように、サッカーシーンをアメリカではより重要なスポーツであるホッケーのシーンに変更しました。

Toy Story

トイ・ストーリー

In the classic animated film Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear gives a speech while standing in front of the stars and stripes flag of the U.S.

アニメ映画『トイ・ストーリー』では、バズ・ライトイヤーがアメリカの星条旗の前に立ちながら演説をします。

It was something normal, given that the film was made in America.

アメリカで作られた映画であることを考えると、何か普通でした。

But in other countries, this would have seemed a little bit weird.

しかし、他の国では、これは少し奇妙に思われたでしょう。

That's why the filmmakers decided to change the background.

そのため、制作者は背景を変えることにしたのです。

But instead of drawing flags for each and every country, they put Buzz in front of the globe.

しかし、一国一国の国旗を描くのではなく、地球儀の前にバズを配置しました。

It was a simple solution to transform a patriotic speech into a universal one.

愛国的なスピーチを普遍的なものに変えるためのシンプルな解決策でした。

Monsters University

モンスターズ・ユニバーシティ

Probably one of the most difficult moments when adapting animated films to other cultures is changing the phrases that appear on screen.

アニメーション映画を異文化に適応させる際、最も難しい瞬間のひとつは、画面に現れるフレーズを変えることでしょう。

If we are talking about the signboard, it's not difficult to change the text, but there are more complicated situations.

看板の話であれば、文字を変えることは難しくないのですが、もっと複雑な状況があるのです。

For example, in the film Monsters University, one of the characters decorates cupcakes with the phrase "Be my pal."

例えば、映画『モンスターズ・ユニバーシティ』では、登場人物の一人がカップケーキに "Be my pal "というフレーズでデコレーションしています。

But in other languages, you might need a lot of space and letters to write such a phrase.

しかし、他の言語では、このようなフレーズを書くために、多くのスペースと文字が必要になるかもしれません。

But the filmmaker came up with a brilliant solution.

しかし、映画監督は見事な解決策を思いつきました。

Instead of using letters, they just put a smiley face, and everyone's happy.

文字の代わりにスマイリーフェイスを入れれば、みんなハッピーになれるんです。

Planes

飛行機

In this film, the creators went a little bit further and, in different countries, changed the look and name of one of the main female characters.

この映画では、クリエイターたちはもう少し踏み込んで、国によって、主要な女性キャラクターの一人の外見と名前を変えています。

In the original film, shown in the U.S. and Canada, children saw a pink plane named Rochelle.

アメリカやカナダで上映されたオリジナルの映画では、子供たちはロシェルという名のピンク色の飛行機を見ました。

In Russia, the same character is not pink, but painted as the Russian flag, and its name is Tatiana.

ロシアでは、同じキャラクターがピンクではなく、ロシア国旗のように描かれていて、名前は「タチアナ」です。

And they did the same in many countries.

そして、多くの国で同じことをしたのです。

In Brazil, the plane's name is Carolina, and she looks quite different.

ブラジルでは機体の名前がカロリーナで、見た目もかなり変わっています。

And in Germany, the plane became Heidi.

そしてドイツでは、飛行機の名前がハイジになりました。
