どうやって作ってるの？

So for those who don't know, bakery culture is really huge in Taiwan.

知らない人のために言っておきますが、台湾はパン文化が盛んなんです。

And I was fortunate enough to live in the area where a lot of these Taiwanese bakeries found their way to where I live in California.

私は幸運にも台湾のパン屋さんがたくさん進出してきたカリフォルニアに住んでいました。

So I decided to take some of my favorite pastries and to share them with my co-workers.

そこで、私は自分の好きなパンをいくつか持って行き、同僚におすそ分けすることにしました。

So the first one that I have is a 藍莓麵包, that basically just means blueberry bun.

1つ目は「藍莓麵包」で、これはブルーベリーパンです。

It usually has a really delicious cream cheese blueberry filling.

ブルーベリーのクリームチーズが入っています。

I usually don't get this just because it's so dense, but I'm really excited to share this with one of my friends.

いつもはあまり買わないんですが、友達と一緒に食べるのが楽しみです。

I can't compare it to anything.

何にも例えられません。

Doesn't this make me feel like a happy Asian baby?

これって、幸せなアジアの赤ちゃんみたいじゃない？

Mmm Hmm.

うーん

So this is a 熱狗起司麵包.

そして、これは「熱狗起司麵包」です。

It literally just means a hot-dog-cheese bread.

文字通りホットドッグチーズパンです。

This is good.

これは美味しい。

Yeah I would definitely have to like work out If I eat that everyday, which I probably wouldn't have the problem with if I could have that, like I would work out and then I would eat it.

そうですね、毎日これを食べるなら、間違いなくワークアウトをしないといけませんね。もしそれができるなら、問題はないだろうけど。

It would defeat the whole purpose of working out, but I would still feel better about my life.

ワークアウトの目的から外れてしまうけど、それでも自分の人生をより良く感じることができるでしょう。

You used to eat this when you were a kid?

子どもの頃よく食べましたか？

Yeah, all the time.

はい、いつも食べていました。

Cool, so when is the next time you're going home?

いいね、次はいつ故郷に帰りますか？

So this is called a 紅豆麵包, that means red bean bun.

そして、これは「紅豆麵包」で、小豆のパンです。

I grew up eating American food like McDonald's, so the idea of having beans involved in a dessert sweet thing was absolutely revolting to me in the beginning.

私はマクドナルドのようなアメリカンフードを食べて育ったので、デザートの甘いものに豆を入れるなんて、最初のうちは絶対に抵抗がありました。

But I've really grown to love it.

でも、今では大好きになりました。

Hmmm.

うーん。

I'm so concerned whenever I bring people to eat this stuff.

こんなものを人に食べさせる時はいつも心配になるんです。

They might think it's gross or the texture is kind of weird?

グロいと思われたり、食感が変だと思われないかなって？

Red beans has it going on.

小豆にはそれがあります。

Was there ever a point where you first saw it and you were like, hmm I don't know about this...

初めて見たとき、うーん、これはどうなんだろう...と思ったことはありますか。

I don't think so, cuz at least in dim sum it's fried so...you know, we're American and anything that's fried, like it's going down.

少なくとも飲茶では揚げ物だから......アメリカ人だからさ、揚げ物は何でもダメになるんです。

Okay, last but certainly not least, a 菠蘿包.

では、最後の最後に「菠蘿包」です。

Kind of translates into a pineapple bun but they kind of call it that simply because the diamonds and the ridges on here actually looks like a pineapple.

訳すとパイナップルパンですが、ダイヤモンドと稜線がパイナップルのように見えるので、そう呼ばれています。

Hmmm, that was good.

うーん、美味しかった。

This actually tastes a lot like a sticky bun you get in England but like, they usually have icing on top.

これはイギリスで食べるスティッキーバンによく似た味だけど、通常はアイシングがかかっています。

I'm not sure it's between like sweet bread and like a croissant almost?

甘いパンとクロワッサンの中間みたいな感じかな？

That's kind of how I tried to explain it to people sometimes like I called it a danish almost.

他の人に説明するときはほぼデニッシュって言ってます。

Yeah.
