Today is the third in my series of four brain foods that will help keep your mind sharp. The saying goes “You are what you eat,” and never is that more true than when it concerns your mental well being. Drink your water! I know you know this, but do you actually do it? Sometimes it helps to know the why. Staying hydrated keeps your brain functioning properly. Studies have shown that not drinking enough water can reduce oxygen flow to the brain and temporarily shrink neurons -- otherwise known as brain cells. Not only that, researchers at the University of East London found that in 6 and 7 year old children, the differences between those who drank enough water and those who didn’t were significant and that cognitive performance increases by the simple act of drinking more water. Those are real, important facts about water! So remember: Improper hydration will affect your brain, so drink up! Having enough water every day is one of the easiest ways to feel a little bit better.
