I love him! - Troye Sivan. It's from his new album. - The Blue Neighbourhood Trilogy by Troye Sivan. - I love this album so much. Everything about it, it's just so beautiful. I know how to play every single song. I've done mashups of them on piano and guitar. Like, I am obsessed with this album. This is one of my top five albums of probably my entire life. - (Finebros) So these are music videos by the musical artist Troye Sivan. - Oh, I've heard of him before. - (Finebros) After watching this, what do you think of his music? - Um, I really like it. - I like his music. It's good stuff. - The best way to explain it, it's, like, haunting. - It's very sad and emotional. - When I listen to this, it's different. It's like something you wouldn't expect to hear on the radio. - Just the melody, the message, everything he's doing is so inspiring. But he's touching on subjects that most people tend to ignore, and he's showing people that this is not only in a song, it's not only something you watch on TV, this is something that's actually happening. It's sort of expanding the view that we see of gay people. - (Finebros) Troye actually started as a YouTuber back in 2007, and his success online helped him transition into being a world-wide pop star. What do you think about that? - I think that's awesome. - I think it's a big step, especially for the YouTube community. Even if you start on YouTube, you could progress farther. - People fall in love with a personality, then use that to show off your own talent. People are going to connect more with his message than just the music itself. - It's so great that people can bring their fanbases with them and also have such a strong fanbase altogether because they started with YouTube. I am beyond proud of him that he was able to transform himself from a YouTuber to a song writer. - (Finebros) His album "Blue Neighbourhood" debuted at number seven on The Billboard 200 charts back in December, and he's being touted as one of the next rising stars in music. Why do you think he's been so successful? - Because that music, so many people can relate to. - When you make music, the whole point is to reach out to your audience and I feel like that's exactly what his music did. - All his fans that liked his personality can now go like his music because, basically, they're getting the same experience of him through a different medium. - (Finebros) So this was a music video trilogy made up of three songs with three separate videos that all follow a continuous narrative. What do you think about this as a concept for a group of videos? - Um, I actually kind of liked that. - It's a pretty cool idea, actually. - You would watch a music video once or twice and you just kind of get bored with it, but then this, it's just an actual story, and it's a really touching story. - The storyline just has listeners enthralled and wanting to know what's next. - You start to get really into it because you spend more time on the topic, and you can add different layers to it. - I love the fact that Troye is in his own music video. It really puts him in spotlight, to let people know this is super-important to me and I wanna be the one, you know, telling this story to everyone. - (Finebros) And what do you think about the message here, for them to be presented as music videos? - I think it's good though because it's something that tons of people can relate to. - It brings a lot of attention to the matter of homophobia and being gay and coming out. - It obviously has something to do with sexuality and how we accept that in the world and stuff and the toll that it takes on people who aren't what we see as the gendered norms of society. - It was a bold move of Troye to make it so sad at the end, but it was definitely a good thing that he did because trying to sugar coat something this important, of this magnitude, would just help no one. So I'm kind of glad that he did that. - Music is one thing, and no one is breathing down your neck or telling you to believe one thing or the other. It's just music. So for someone to watch that music video, that could change their whole opinion on everything, which is huge! - (Finebros) Finally, do you think that Troye should keep making music videos like this with such deep messages and storytelling? - Yes. - Of course he should! - Yeah, I really liked it. - Yeah, absolutely. - Definitely! Just because the storyline, you get so invested in it. - It makes other people think. If they have a different opinion, it can maybe change their mind, or even open up their mind. - As long as this is still happening, as long as there is blatant homophobia, as long as there are people being kicked out of their homes and killed for just being who they are, this is something that needs to be talked about more and it can't be talked about enough. - This isn't just like a video. This happens to a lot of people where they're not supported or they're criticized or abused for who they are. And this is basically just showing people this is what could happen. This is something that does happen. I am so grateful that I had such a supportive family, at least my mom's side. And it sucks that all these people don't have that. So... you don't know me, but if you feel like you don't have anybody there to support you just know I will be there. (silence)
