  • and he's showing people that this is not only in a song,

  • it's not only something you watch on TV,

  • this is something that's actually happening.

  • It's sort of expanding the view that we see of gay people.

  • - (Finebros) Troye actually started as a YouTuber back in 2007,

  • and his success online helped him transition

  • into being a world-wide pop star.

  • What do you think about that? - I think that's awesome.

  • - (Finebros) His album "Blue Neighbourhood" debuted at number seven

  • on The Billboard 200 charts back in December,

  • and he's being touted as one of the next rising stars in music.

  • Why do you think he's been so successful?

  • - Because that music, so many people can relate to.

  • - When you make music, the whole point is to reach out to your audience

  • and I feel like that's exactly what his music did.

  • - All his fans that liked his personality can now go like his music

  • - (Finebros) So this was a music video trilogy

  • that all follow a continuous narrative.

  • What do you think about this as a concept for a group of videos?

  • - Um, I actually kind of liked that.

  • - You would watch a music video once or twice

  • you know, telling this story to everyone.

  • - (Finebros) And what do you think about the message here,

  • for them to be presented as music videos?

  • - I think it's good though because it's something

  • that tons of people can relate to.

  • - It brings a lot of attention to the matter of homophobia

  • and being gay and coming out.

  • - It obviously has something to do with sexuality and how we accept that

  • in the world and stuff and the toll that it takes on people

  • who aren't what we see as the gendered norms of society.

  • - It was a bold move of Troye to make it so sad at the end,

  • but it was definitely a good thing that he did

  • because trying to sugar coat something this important,

  • of this magnitude, would just help no one.

  • So I'm kind of glad that he did that.

  • or telling you to believe one thing or the other.

  • - Yeah, I really liked it.

  • - Definitely! Just because the storyline, you get so invested in it.

  • - It makes other people think.

  • If they have a different opinion, it can maybe change their mind,

  • - As long as this is still happening,

  • as long as there is blatant homophobia,

  • as long as there are people being kicked out of their homes

  • and killed for just being who they are,

  • this is something that needs to be talked about more
