  • Thus, the project of skills developmentKitchen helper

  • initiated by Trav-Action, a specialized manpower service located in Estrie region

  • is a fine example of our partnership.

  • We went and met with employers to understand their needs. Their labor needs

  • were mostly culinary.

  • So we contacted the professional training center and together we looked at

  • ways to customize training

  • to meet the needs of customers.

  • When I had my children, I made a decision to stay at home with them,

  • but

  • at some point, we have to return to the labor market.

  • When there's a whole have sixteen years, it's hard to return to the labor market.

  • So, someone told me to go to Trav-Action.

  • Then, they advised me to take a "kitchen helper" course.

  • Since it was a fresh start, I certainly agreed.

  • SPHERE-Québec gave us the opportunity to have a training professional,

  • thus having a trained instructor who fully knows our clientele.

  • And they cover part of the cost related to the supervisor,

  • a person who is designated in the work milieu

  • to supervise the client. So the training includes segments of theory and practice.

  • The practical part is given in workshops. They learn about cooking,

  • sanitation, packaging,

  • allowing them to be at ease when they actually enter the labor market

  • in kitchens, cafeterias, or even supermarkets,

  • to know a little bit about the milieu, how it works.

  • So, in addition to developing their expertise while learning,

  • the participants have the opportunity to develop their way of being,

  • that is to say their skills both social and professional.

  • It's important that students develop their interpersonal skills,

  • because they need

  • to respond to an employer's requirements, as an employee,
