Hey guys! So today we are back with another video and we are in a...
different setup here back in my house in Los Angeles.
And I am accompanied by my good friend, Eli over here who is from America.
And today we want to talk about 10 things that we missed about America when we were in Japan
Eli has been in Japan about 4 times...
I have been living in Japan for about 3.5 years or so...
I am back in my hometown for about 1.5 weeks
So lets start with a list that is not in any order...so number 1 is...
So here in America, spacious rooms, apartments or houses...
When you are in Japan, things are so...
compact...
so compressed....right?
Absolutely
Even hotels you were talking about right?
The typical hotel room in the US is at least double the size of an average size hotel room in Japan.
Number 2...
has to do with food and beverages...so...
here in America, you get more quantity, you have more options and they are cheaper
So whenever you go to any restaurant and you order a soda in America, you get free refills almost all the time
I think that goes for soda, iced tea, lemonade
I think coffee you can't get free refills...
Yeah sure you can get free refills...
But basically in Japan, if you order one coffee, that means you get one coffee, if you order one soda, that means you get one soda...
And the price would be a little bit more expensive than it would be here in America
And that is a really big plus that America has and that is why we are so healthy here...lol
Number 3 has to do with food again
Here in America, you get free appetizers in like all restaurants.
In a Mexican restaurant, you get free chips and salsa
In an Italian restaurant, you get free bread
steak restaurant, you get free bread
and its also all you can eat
so you can keep ordering that for free
they will get you more bread if you want more bread
But in Japan...
I think like an Outback Steakhouse is the only place, which is an American chain...
they have free refills for bread
But typically in Japanese restaurants,
you do not get any free appetizers and you are actually charged a table fee usually...
and they don't give you any free appetizers...
What's a table fee?
So a table fee if you go to like an izakaya...
they will charge you like 500 yen for each person...
for just sitting down
I'm not even joking and plus you need to order one dish
So moving right along, number 4, we have...
better parks or recreational areas
So in America, you can go to a park and there could be a nice public basketball court
that you can use for free
or there could be big parks where you can kick the soccer ball around or throw the football around...
But in Japan because it is so small...nothing against Japan...
its just that Japan is so small that you can't have those areas...
and even if you want to play like futsal...
Futsal is like indoor soccer or small sided soccer
It's really expensive. It's almost like $20-40 per person
And that is something very different from America...
I grew up in Los Angeles so...
we played basketball all the time in school playgrounds...
So it is something that I kind of missed while living in Japan
I couldn't play basketball ever...
Yeah and I play a lot of golf and the driving ranges are a lot smaller than compared to the US
In the US, you can hit up to at least 300 yards...
in almost every driving range...
while in Japan, some of the ones that I have been to in like Osaka, you can only hit up to like 80-90 yards...
there are 4 levels...it is a totally different style of golf...
I don't know anything about golf so...
So number 5 is shopping!
So in America, you have the Nordstrom Rack...
you have a bunch of these department stores
that have really big sales and discounts for high end goods...
In Japan, yeah you have sales obviously but...
But the price for clothing or items would be a lot higher than you would see in America...
I am not sure if it is because a lot of those products are made in Japan...
But basically shopping wise, I find it so much easier and more convenient to buy whatever I want here in America compared to Japan
Did you have any experiences like that?
Yeah, the one store that I liked a lot in Japan was Uniqlo
But now they have a lot of Uniqlos in the US...
and it's growing so...
no complaints there...
I just saw one in the Beverly Center actually...
Yeah exactly...
and they had one in NYC for awhile right?
yeah so hopefully Uniqlo grows here because Uniqlo is great with that Heatech baby!
Moving right along, we have...
watching sports...
so I am a big NBA fan...
I watch the NFL
And obviously those are American leagues so...
If you are a sports fan, it is just difficult to watch any of your favorite sporting games in Japan
You know, I wanted to keep track of the Warriors and Stephen Curry, my boy!
but its hard to so I just gotta watch the highlight reels...
but its all good because he is dishing 3's and stuff
But like for the NFL, I don't even know where to find an NFL channel...
So yeah it is just difficult to keep track of all of those sporting news, events and games and stuff while living in Japan
On Sundays in the US, I mean football is like a religion here...
People would just park themselves on the couch and watch TV all day
But you know in Japan, you can't really get those games but I got to watch a lot of sumo though, which is one of my fav sports...
This dude loves sumo!
Moving right along to number 7...
Gas prices!
So you may think that gas prices are expensive in America...
No no no, you don't know anything yet! Gas prices in Japan are sky rocket high...
Basically driving in Japan is really expensive...
Kind of moving along to number 8 too...
Parking is...like...whoa, if you think parking is expensive in America...
Basically parking...especially in Tokyo
is similar or more expensive than parking in NYC
It's horrible. I don't drive but you always sees these parking signs...
and how expensive they are...it's literally crazy...
Another thing that goes along with these is valet parking...
America is really big on valet parking at a department store...shopping mall...but
in Japan I don't see much valet parking so...
basically you have to pay a really big fee to park the car yourself...
Do you have anything to add to that?
Parking is much much easier obviously because we have a lot more space in the US
But it kind of drives everyone towards public transportation over there in Japan
But if you guys don't know, the parking garages in Japan are really cool
you do this thing where you park and all of a sudden...
the car will like go up...
like an elevator
and park itself
and this thing comes down and a new car comes on...It's really cool...
High tech baby
So...our number 9 is...
you can watch Hollywood movies on time
so I am a big movie guy...I love Hollywood...
I love movies...I mean I live near Hollywood so...
movie star!
We are the movie stars...lol
But yeah in Japan Hollywood movies come out
sometimes a month to 3 months after they come out in America
it's literally insane...
People in America are talking about the movie and I can't even watch the movies for 3 more months...
So that is something that I despise about Japan
For how long they take to get the movie rights...it's literally insane...
Yeah and especially living in Los Angeles, we have a lot of friends in the movie industry...
We can watch the movie sometimes before they even come out in special premiers or screenings...things like that so...
So we are a little spoiled...we are used to getting things before everyone else so...
so it's tough when you have to go to a place where you have to wait a lot later...
And our last one is...
that in America at almost every single restaurant
if you don't finish your food, you can take it out...
that is leftover...
take out?
in a doggy bag?
But you can actually take out your food if you have leftovers...
But in Japan, most restaurants don't allow you
so you are basically throwing away your food, which is really annoying...
because if I have a very nice burger and I can't finish my burger...
and I have half a burger left...I want to eat that for breakfast the next day you know....
Yeah to me that's crazy...
if you ordered the food...you paid for it...
and you are planning on eating it later...
why can't you take it out...it doesn't make any sense...
Yeah I don't understand that policy either...
And just to round this topic off with a bang....
America...or at least Los Angeles...has great Mexican food!
But Japan's Mexican food...they need help with the Mexican food department!
They need more...so if you can make Mexican food...go to Japan
start a business
in Tokyo because I am in Tokyo okay...
Help a brother out
Give me some burritos....give me some tacos...I love all of that Mexican food
Mexican food and I...we are best friends...
So if you know how to make Mexican food...come to Tokyo...okay?
I am talking to you people right there...
And make sure the guacamole is good
Make sure the guacamoles good...give me the sour cream!
But yeah if you guys enjoyed this video...
please leave a like...please share it...
If you guys want to add anything else, please leave a comment down below...
I think that would be appreciated by many viewers to see different sides for this topic...
And I guess I will see you in the next video!
