それにネオンで飾られた巨大な飛行機

Whilst some were paraded through the air like some sort of futuristic dystopian female cult

未来の女性カルト集団のようにパレードをし

Which...I quite want to join

それには、僕も参加したかったな

Robot Restaurant opened in mid-2012 in Shinjuku, Tokyo

ロボットレストランは2012年の中頃に 東京は新宿でオープンした

after someone spent 125 million dollars

125億円の総工費をかけてね

building the venue, constructing the robots

設備を建設し、ロボットを作り、

and hiring the female population of a small city

小さな都市の人口のほとんどの女性を雇い、

to come perform everyday, 3 times!

一日３回のショーでパフォーマスンスさせる為にね

After reading about how unusual this place was, and being something of a robotic fanatic myself

この店の奇妙さをいくつかの記事で読んだことと 僕自身がロボットの熱狂的なファンだということから

a friend and I decided to check it out on our recent trip to Tokyo

最近東京に旅行に行ったときに 友人と行ってみることにした

and....well...it was pretty interesting

やはり、そこは非常に面白かった

The thing kicked off fairly normally, well to some degree, with the female cult as I said, parading around their tattooed leader

ショーは普通に始まった、いや、ある程度は。 女性カルト集団と先程言ったが、たくさんの女性がタトゥーをしたリーダーを囲み、練り歩いたんだ

Shouting loudly and advocating...Soy Milk?

Or...just Soya in general..something to do with Soya

大きな声で「ソイミルク(豆乳)？」って叫びながら

And after a change of clothes we had a fairly normal performance which my friend particularly enjoyed

いや、Soyaって言ってるのか 何か大豆と関係あることだと思う

Alright, so did I

衣装チェンジをしたあと、 すごく普通なショーがあった

And then it all started to turn rather weird

僕の友人はスゴく楽しんでたよ

A giant robot called King Robota

ああ、もちろん僕もね

was wheeled out to the Dance Floor

それからショー全体は少し奇妙さを増してきた

Brought to life by the son of Father Christmas

キングロボタというロボットが

Before it started stumbling around and shouting inaudible words

ダンスフロアに連れてこられ、

we were disappointed or in my case relieved to know

サンタの息子みたいな奴に命を与えられたんだ

to that there is actually someone in the robot

よろよろ歩きながら 聞き取れない言葉をそのロボットが発する前に

There is someone in the 8 foot costume

ガッカリしたことがあった、 いや、僕の場合安心したと言っていいが

Although half the costume is technically a robot, with the hands and face that do their own thing

ロボットの中には 人が入っているということが分かったんだ

I'm genuinely scared, what is that??

2m以上のコスチュームの中に、、、

It was a rather terrifying insight into a future of giant dancing robots singing

コスチュームの半分はロボットだが、 手や顔の部分は自由に動かせるようになっている

to remixes of We Will Rock You and of course dancing to Gangnam Style

怖くなってきたよ あれ一体なんだよ？

I wasn't the only one uncomfortable being in the presence of this giant robot

巨大なロボットが We Will Rock Youのリミックスに合わせて歌い

There were quite a lot of other "robots" dancing in Power Rangers-style costumes

カンナムスタイルに合わせ 踊る未来を想像すると恐怖を覚えた

As well as members of the Albert Einstein fan club

この巨大ロボットの存在に居心地を悪く感じたのは 僕だけじゃなかったみたいだ

and they all seemed hesitant to share the dance floor

戦隊コスチュームに身をつつんだロボットや

with the eight-foot tall

アインシュタインのファンクラブの ような格好をした奴らやも

half man, half robot, half fucking nightmare

彼らも同じダンスフロアで 2m以上の巨大ロボットと踊ることを躊躇していた

robot swinging arms thing

半分人間、半分ロボット、もはや悪夢だよ

Or perhaps they were afraid of the crazy man sitting on our left

ロボットが腕を振ってるんだぜ

who was on a high dosage of fizzy soft drinks and women

いや、本当に怖かったのは 僕の左側に座っていた 気が違った様子の男性だったのかもしれない

and he must have been the only person in that room to have succeeded in touching every women

ソフトドリンクと女性に酔いしれていたよ

In massive contrast to the overly excited guy on our left

そして彼は会場にいた人の中で 全ての女性に触れることが出来た唯一の成功者だ

on our right we had Tokyo's most thoroughly unenthusiastic man

左側に超ハイテンション男がいる一方で

I couldn't for the life of me establish whether he was genuinely unimpressed

右側にはこの世の終わりみたいな顔で ショーを見つめる男性がいた

or just overwhelmingly sexually frustrated

彼が単にショーに満足していないだけなのか

Things then died down

それとも過剰に欲求不満なだけなのかは 分からなかった

Except they didn't

ショーは徐々に静かになった

Because then a fleet of women on giant animatronic robots

と思ったら奴らはまたやってきた

made their way into the room

巨大なロボットに乗った女性達が

and started to surround us

フロアにやってきたんだ

before poking the giant robot thing

そして僕たちの周りを囲みだした

in the face which she didn't seem to like very much because she starting doing this

女性の一人がロボットの顔を指で突っつきだしたんだ

My friend even got to sit on one

ロボットは顔をこうやって振ってたから それをされるのはあまり心地よくなかったんだね

pull a stupid pose on it

僕の友人がそこに座ることが出来たんだ

before driving it backwards and forwards across the room with a cheeky smile

馬鹿なポーズをしていたよ

And it was at that moment that things started to die down

その後、にやにやしてフロアの上を 前後に動いていたよ

Except they didn't

そしてついにショーは幕を降ろしたんだ

Because just then, a motorbike burst into the room

と思ったらやっぱりまたやってきた

The room turned into a giant merry-go-round

その瞬間にモーターバイクが部屋に突入してきたんだ

with women hanging from the ceiling

会場全体は巨大なメリーゴーランドのようだった

Then what happened...? Oh yeah!

女が天井からぶら下がっていたり

There was a woman riding around on an ostrich

あと何があったかな、、、

A woman being assaulted, cuddled, fondled

ダチョウに乗って駆け回ってる女もいたな

by a giant rabbit

セクハラまがいなことをされている女性もいた

And then... some sort of buggy with half a dozen women just burst into the room

巨大なウサギに、、、

And my friend got overwhelmed by it all

それから6名くらいの女性が乗ったバギーが 急にフロアに突入してきた

But then things got really mental

僕の友達は目の前で起こっていること 全てにただただ興奮していたよ

because right then in a scene reminiscent from the world's greatest weapon demonstration

そこからは本当に頭がいっちゃってるレベルだった

A giant plane flew into the room

巨大な戦闘機を彷彿させるようなものが登場してから

and...and a neon Tank drenched with women drove through the room

巨大な飛行機が現れ、

crashing into the plane twice

女で埋め尽くされたネオンで 飾られたタンクがフロアを走った

I almost spilled my sanity all over the floor

飛行機に２回も衝突していたよ

What the fucking hell is going on??

この時、僕には何が正常か分からなくなっていた

It's during this part of the performance

一体何が起こってるんだ？

that you'll start to wonder why tanks aren't build in neon and covered in bikini wearing women

ショーを見ながら思うだろう

No self-respected enemy soldier would open fire on them

何故、実際のタンクもネオンで飾られ、 ビキニを着た女性が乗っていないのかって

They'd be too busy filming it let's face it

自尊心が強い敵の兵士なら 攻撃を仕掛けてくることは出来ないだろう

It was then that the plane and the tank turned around, disappearing off stage

撮影するのに忙しくて 攻撃どこじゃないと思うよ

with a wave and the cries of goodbyes

そんなことを考えていると タンクが方向を変え、帰っていた

the performance ended

さよならと叫びながら手を振って

and we emerged from the place wondering what the hell had just happened

ショーは終わった

Even though...whatever I saw...was bloody brilliant

一体何が起こったのか呆然と考えながら その場を離れた

They say the best things in life are free

ショーは凄まじく素晴らしかったけど

They're not, they cost 4000 yens and they come with a bento box dinner

タダより素晴らしいものは無いって言うよね

Not that you'll be thinking about the food

残念ながらショーは４０００円、 弁当がディナーとしてついてくる (現在は価格、内容に変動があります）

And after all you'll probably have to only do it once

食べ物のことではないけれど

although let it be said there are definitely some who make it a weekly pilgrimage

色々思い返すと、行くのは一回でいいかなと思う

The show may not have had all the robots I'd hope for

毎週行く恒例でそこを訪れる人がいたとしても

But one things for sure

一回のショーで全てのロボットが 登場してなければいいんだけど

you'll certainly have a hard time finding

でも確かに言えることは

a cabaret performance as interesting, dramatic, ridiculous as the one at Robot Restaurant
